Cowboys Spots

Long time poster Jon mentioned in a thread that he is a regular at a Cowboys bar in Virginia Beach. Years ago, when I lived in Wisconsin, I was amazed to find a Cowboys bar in a small town about an hour from Green Bay.
I’d like to know where folks outside of the Metroplex can go to meet fellow Cowboys fans. I’m especially interested in hangouts outside of Texas.

In Wisconsin? Amazing those inbreeders didn’t burn the place down! What bout the Pacific Northwest?
Hey there. I live about 45 mins from Va. Beach in Yorktown, Va. You would be amazed at all the Cowboys’ fans around here. This is supposed to be Redskin territory, but I think that’s a bunch of crap especially since they have basicially sucked since 1991. I have a friend that used to be stationed in the military out in Wash. State and he told be that the bars out there were always full of Cowboys’ fans as well. What can I say!? That’s why they are known as America’s Team.
I’m not aware of a “Cowboys bar” in the Richmond, VA area but I’ve been sober for thirteen years, so, there could be one now. There was once this cool bar called the Texas-Wisconsin Cafe (featuring “Widow-Maker Chili” in three levels of hell). It was in the VCU district but its’ gone now. One owner was a Cowboys fan, the other a Packers fan, so the decor was split between the two teams. I think it was featured in a movie too, if I could only remember which one.
There are several sports bars but I can’t attest to the atmospheres. Back in the day, one had to endure contingents of drunken fans of assorted teams: Cowboys, Vikings, Raiders and Packers were the predominate ones as I recall. I don’t judge anyone for drinking or anything, but I got NFL Sunday Ticket as soon as it became available here eleven years ago!
Cowboys fans are always welcome at my house!
im from iowa so i stay at home
maybe i should open 1 hmmmm.
the following is a piece of mickey’s mail that i thought was good…
Mike Hamilton, Kendall Park, N.J.: In the analysis for Rob Petitti, he is rated as one of the nation’s elite offensive lineman. Repeated as All Big East selection, etc. etc. He is also huge. With all that, why was he no higher than a late sixth-round draft choice? Is this a guy who the Cowboys think can be a big-time player in the NFL?
Mickey: Well, he evidently had some weight problems, and might not have been as quick as you’d like. Also, right tackles tend to drop in the draft. But when I saw him Thursday, he sure looked the part, and did not appear overweight. The Cowboys have him listed a 340. Let’s keep an eye on this guy. One of the scouts told me while watching one of the best pass rushers in the draft on film, he was getting shut down. Then he started concentrating on the guy who was shutting him down. It was Petitti.

i pressed enter too much sorry
James,
Yeah in Wisconsin. And the shame of it was, I lived there seven years and didn’t find it until about a month before I moved away. It would have saved me a lot of grief standing in bars with layers of drunken Packers fans.
it is amazing that someone pick a guy that might be good that mel kiper didn’t pick first. there’s your moron. i think our draft was awesome. i think petitti has a very good chance of starting. i have faith in bp’s ability in drafting.
Lendy’s in Virginia Beach, Virginia is where I hang my Hat and Spurs. It is small place with atmosphere as big as Texas. The best hotwings and other great football food, and he always has wings on Special on Sundays. It is truly a local dive which is frequented by our many Navy Pilots, Navy Seals, and Police Officers as well………but on Sundays it is taken over by the Die Hard Football Fans……….more than a few of which are Dallas Cowboys. It is one of those places where it does not take long til everybody knows your name, and more importantly the beer you drink!
The proprieter has a bus trip going to FEDEX field to watch Dallas beat up on Joe Gibbs and his redskins again. Give em a shout, he had plenty of room on the bus as of yesterday!!!!
Darrel,
By the way I agree with Kiper being a moron.
I’m 30 miles outside of DC and every bar around here are filled with cowboy fan’s
Cory Hall has decided not to re-sign w/ the falcons. This looks like a great opportunity, if nothing else than to push the current safeties on the roster!

I’m from dallas, but now I live in Philly. I don’t venture out.
Ryan…
And the pass rusher the scout was talking about that pettiti shut down was a guy that had a 15 game sack streak halted, you might have heard of him, His name is Dwight Freeney of the indianapolis colts.
Cooper,
You are in hostile territory.
So, call me dumb. Is Pettiti a right tackle and if so is the man? Everything I’ve read about the guy seems that he has the right stuff. Imagine BP rinding a right tackle in the six round. Also, what’s the deal with our last pick, Ratliff, haven’t heard much about him…is he the real deal or a diamonnd in the rough?
Jon
Where is Lendy’s? My wife has family at the beach and we get down that way periodically, except during football season because of game issues. They are all from Pittsburgh, and naturally are Steelers fans. They invite me to come to the Steelers fan bar in the area but I politely decline. Now that I know there is another option…
Pettiti played left tackle at PITT, but is rated better at right tackle in the pro’s. He would of been a late first round talent if he came out last year. He put on about thirty pounds his senior year and wasn’t very effective. I heard he has lost thirty pounds already this offseason.
Ratliff was one if the four d-linemen that started at Auburn. He is raw but has the body type and the size if he continues to work on his technique and strength to become something special, played DE and DT in college. The new york giants GM ernie accorsi really liked Ratliff and thought Dallas getting him in the sevebth round was a steal. I sure hope he’s right about Ratliff
Saw the Falcons don’t want Cory Hall. Dallas has expressed interest in the past. Think they might get him?
about pettit go to http://www.dallascowboys.com and youll find something in there about him, i thnk its on the news from 4/30 they said he was 1 of the highest rated rt in the draft but tackles stock go down for some reason, until they started to watch film on a big pass rusher who was getting shut down, and guess who the guy was shutting him down? pettit, they are saying he looks to be at a good weight and looking good thus far.
Derrick and Mike, thanks for the info on Pettiti and Ratliff. I really do enjoy this site. What are your thoughts on the FS we p/up in the draft. Bio looks good, but it seems he lack the speed?
regarding cowboys bars, I watch America’s team at the BBC (british bankers club) in the San Francisco bay area. Its in Menlo Park (about 40 mi south of the city) in Silicon Valley. All games are broadcast but there are 4-5 Cowboys fans who always are there for the games. We usually are the largest crowds. And lately, no 49ers fans around. Anyone else in the SF area?
could someone maybe help me out and give me a list of all the players on our team and the speed they ran the 40 yard dash in?
Hooters on west broad street is all ways full of cowboy fans on sundays. If you are in Richmond, VA
Las Vegas is a city that is hungry for pro sports, especially football. For now it’s cowboys country. Mr. D’s is the place where most cowboys fans congregate. Great food, enormous big screens, and some of the coolest memorabilia. Go cowboys! I can’t wait to see what JJ can do with a full season (knock on wood).
Starstruck or anybody at the Beach,
Lendy’s Cafe is in the Shopping center on the corner of General Boothe Blvd and Dam Neck Road. Smackwater Jacks on the BLVD also is not too bad usually a few Dallas fans there. I would call it Oceana / Dam Neck area of Va Beach. I have been in that Steelers bar, Pittsburgh fans are OK…..it is philly fans that can not be tolerated.
Lendy’s only seats about 30 or so but fans come and go to watch certain games……….great food………and a good crowd.
Anybody see the clips of Bill Parcells at Rookie Camp.
He is smiling and loving it again. Although, he is yelling at all the rookies just like always. He praised Jerry Jones for the FA pick ups, and the draft and the scouts…….and does not look like a guy leaving anytime soon. Doing what he loves best, COACHING. You are going to have to kill this guy to get him off the field.
I think this guy stays until we win ONE. And you know the ONE I mean. After that he stays on as either a GM or Draft Consultant, Zimmer becomes head coach or some other hand picked Parcells guy although I think he likes Zimmer as much as anybody.
I’m kind of in the same situation as Cooper. Smack dab in the middle of Giants’ country. Yet make a stop at any sports bar around here on a Sunday and you’ll find a nice group of Cowboys’ fans. …. Giants Stadium is a whole different story. I was there for the “Emmitt” game, when he separated his shoulder. Wearing my Michael Irvin jersey! The entire game the guy next to me tried to lean towards my seat, sometimes leaning so far that he blocked my view. This guy screamed right at me, in my ear every time the Giants did anything remotely good. He was big and fat, and the sad part was I was only 14 years old. His childish behavior made me feel very uncomfortable, I have never even thought about going to another Dallas game there. …. Sweet revenge though, when Eddie Murray nailed that field goal!!
could someone maybe help me out and give me a list of all the players on our team and the speed they ran the 40 yard dash in?
I lived in Philly once. I don’t think I’d ever consider watching the Cowboys there if I weren’t in a large group of Cowboys fan. I’m just not interested in being forced into a rumble with a bunch of low-lifes.
Things are different in the San Francisco area. People don’t like the Cowboys, but there isn’t the same physical anger and despair around here. I’ve not yet watched a cowboys game at candlestick (or monster park or whatever) but I did watch the Cowboys at the Raiders. That was wacky. Lots of beligerent fans walking around. And a lot of drunks — they sell hard liquor at the game. I’ve not seen that in many other stadiums. Anyway, the ‘boy play both are the Raiders and 49ers this year so I’m hoping to get tickets for the 49ers game.
And yes, if any game sells out for the 49ers it will be the Cowboys game. There’s no doubt about it — we still are Americas’s team.
Ryan and Derrick, GREAT posts on Pettiti!! Seriously, I’m gonna be in a great mood for the rest of the day! Good job, guys!
Any guys here from Austin, Texas?
Any of you guys play Madden?
Maybe we could have a thread where people can write their contact info.
Jon,
That’s great, it’s right by my sister-in-law’s house! Maybe I’ll see you there sometime…unknowingly. Which side is it on? I’d be heading north on GB from her house at Culver Ln. As memory serves, there’s two shopping cntrs. on the left and right at Dam Neck or would I cross DN? Thanks for the feedback!
Food Lion……….tucked in the corner.
Start with the Hot sauce on the wings before you go to Suicide……..Hot is the mildest he has.
Did that used to be “Legends”?
I posted something about Parcells yesterday. Some critisims about past drafts, and Rafael took it off. Rafael you are a punk bro, if you can’t hanle both praise and critisism of Parcells.
rich, is there a good cowboys bar in austin?
ericp,
not specifically that i know of. there’s a lot of houston fans and cowboy haters around, though. more than you’d expect. kinda wierd.
i usually
Just as Eric says I have been to a couple of games at Giant stadium, but my experiences have been slightly different. I always wear one of my Cowboy jerseys and I seem to always see more Cowboy fans tailgating and enjoying themselves. I even had a nice offer on my Dorsett throw back jersey I had on, but I couldn’t part with it or should I say the offer wasn’t right…LOL
StarStruck,
No Legends is now El Tapatio different shopping center…….
Lendys has been Lendys for a while……..i dont think it was ever anything else. Although at some point it changed ownership. Kent and Joanne own it. Kent is a big time Cowboys fan and makes sure the Boys are always on the tele.
He has a website as well for his hot sauce. You have to look for Lendy’s like I said it is tucked away in the corner of the shopping center of the Food Lion on Dam Neck……….and it is a hole in the wall but a great bar and Cowboys fans are always there.
http://www.vabiz.com/lendys/index-main.htm
Thanks Jon, I’m sure I’ll be able to find it.
I like the T-shirts!
could someone maybe help me out and give me a list of all the players on our team and the speed they ran the 40 yard dash in?
I lived in V Beach two years ago and I was a regular at Lendys. It was a great place to watch the Boys. I bet the Steelers fans had a ball last year!
Randall Williams WR once ran a 4.04 40 yard dash time……..that is faster than Deion or Darrel Green……
also cut cuz he could not catch the football!!!!!
jon,
thanks, but do you know every player’s 40 yard dash time that’s on our team?
Ryan
I looked around and couldn’t find a compiled listing of just Cowboys much less all of them and good luck with that. You can find times on the draftees and such fairly readily, but you’ll have to weed through every player/school. If you want those, go to: http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts.
I think you’ll be hard pressed to find 40 times on vets, that’s just a guess.
If you do though, report back if you don’t mind. Happy hunting…
Ryan
Here’s an easier list of combine results:

There is a really good article on Canty on the Cowboys official site. Take a look.
Dear Rich and Eric P,
As a Dallas native attending school in Austin, I can definitely say that this is Longhorn country, first and foremost. Generally speaking, I would say that there are a lot more Texan fans around here than Cowboys (Houston is about an hour closer). However, I do know many Dallas and SA residents, such as myself, that eat, sleep and breathe Cowboys. This next year will be my first NFL season being 21 years old, thus I too would be interested in knowing about any Cowboys bars around these parts…
Josh,
I’m not moderating the posts right now. Raul might be able to answer the question, but it wasn’t me.
Then my apologies Rafael. Raul should explain to the board why it is, you can’t have a disenting opinion on Parcells draft success. Lets face it the guy hit on 3 players in his previous 2 drafts with the Cowboys. What’s wrong with me stating that as a matter of opinion? It’s ok if you are a homer, and wish to ignore the fact that Parcells flat out didn’t do his homework the first two years, but for those of us who wish to intellectually honest let us be.
Josh,
I live in the New York area, and they were saying the same things about his drafts with the Jets. As time went by, we saw just how successful he was. Give these guys some time before we boot them out of town. Remember 1-15? Who was our QB? The same guy who led us to 3 Super Bowl rings, that’s who!!
Eric,
That may be so. I’m not saying none of those players will turn around, but just look at how many aren’t even on the roster. Heck a 4th round pick, Sean Ryan had a hard time making the practive squad. I think its obvious to all objective football, fans that this year is the first year with the Cowboys that Parcells, has taken the draft seriously, and understands as Lacewell told him, “You work for Jerry Jones, if you want someone, just tell him”.
Josh,
Guys what is wrong with
Terrance Newman, Jason Witten, Julius Jones……..Al Johnson?
Offensive Lineman take longer to develop………we still have some guys on this squad that are young and are either going to catch on or be replaced………Jacob Rogers, Stephen Peterman, Bradie James at LB? These guys are still young and learning. I think James will step up this year, he played ok last year but was out of position some. I am not ready to give up on Rogers………and watch out for Pettiti this kid shut down Dwight Freeney and Coach Pasquerelli was familiar with Pitt playing them every year…….this kid might be better than Alex Barron and he was a 6th round pick!!!
We took gambles on Nathan Jones, Jaques Reeves, Thornton and then had Frazier off the Baltimore practice squad in the mix of rookie CBs……hey who cares where you got em if you got em………Reeves and Frazier are going to see playing time this year……..one of these guys thornton i think had an ACl injury……Hunter got hurt……..we could not find an FA CB………they just are not laying around……….Teams are already employing guys that can play the position and paying them well…..
now look at the list of guys that signed on to play with the cowboys……….and two we missed on……..
FAs……….Testaverde, Bledsoe, Richie Anderson, Adrian Murrel, Keyshawn for Galloway WHO GOT THE BETTER OF THAT DEAL?, Terry Glenn(supposedly a problem child who would have led all recievers last year for Dallas if not for injury), Jason Ferguson, Marco Rivera, Henry, and Aaron Glenn…….
Misses
Marcellus Wiley
SHOULD HAVE SIGNED EM
Bertrand Berry and Jake Delhomme………hey antyime you can sign a kid from the Bayou who can boogalou do it……….kid is a competitor……and was a field goal away from winning the Super Bowl….I guarntee you NO wishes they had him at QB
Now evaluate the Julius Jones trade………..we gave the Bills the Pick that landed them JP Losman………we got Julius Jones and Sean Ryan and later we added Marcus Spears……….uh………that looks Brilliant to me. Steven Jackson, Chris Perry, and Kevin Jones are going to have to be Emmit Smith like to make this trade a bad deal……..and even then……..Sean Ryan, Marcus Spears and Julius Jones will all have to be DUDs not STUDS………I think I see at least 2 STUDS in that trio……..
Now go compare say what the Redskins did at the same time. Overpaid and overaged QB named Mark Brunell who Vinny Outplayed………go look at what vinny made vs. Mark Burnell……….traded Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis………who immediately mouthed off about Joe Gibbs offense……….got Coles……..and Gardner……..are having a hard time keeping eithre one…….now they got Moss for Coles……….gave up more in Free Agency letting another pro bowl CB go in Fred Smoot………to add a rookie Carlos Rogers……….and a QB in Jason Campbell? Lost LB Pierce? Gibbs does not seem to be able to motivate anybody with any talent to stay in DC……..
Jerry and Bill are in the process of rebuilding this franchise and trying to be competitive without overpaying aging veterans who do not fit into the team offense defense or Parcells mold………that is much smarter than overpaying like the redskins did………..you know what else………the Vikings addes a lot of FA……but watch as their Defense struggles……they still do not have a head COACH worth a darn……….and gave up the best WR in the NFL for Troy Williamson? and Napoleon Harris? Come on………who is the bigger impact player Randy Moss or Eli Manning……..one of em cost you Two First Round picks……..Eli?
In five years and a couple of Super Bowl Victories………….with Bill Parcells still the Head coach………you will love this draft………I know I do. Aaron Glenn as an FA……what a pick up that was………Spears, Ware, Canty and Burnett………four potential starters in the front seven for the next 10 years………..2 young RBs instead of an overpaid FA like Edgerin James or Shaun Alexander………..still have quality WRs on this team and we can address that in draft of FA if need be next year. I think we can stand pat this year………see if Crayton and Cooper are the real deal……..I think Glenn will be back with a vengenace………
So next year……….who knows maybe Beirault and Cooper all develop and we go to the draft looking for what? a franchise qb? if henson doesnt develop……….a stud at WR? another LB to add to our Stable……….a FB to block although Parcells sure seems to like Polite………you can never have enough quality Lineman on either side of the ball so a DT and and OT? I think the Cowboys are not only in good shape, I think they just signed up some guys that are going to be contributors right away and for years to come. Even if only half of the Defensive players we signed this year are only as half as good on Defense as parcells expects them to be……….we are going to improve on D!!!!
josh,
i agree with all that, if nothing else the reason we didnt draft any wr is that you build 11 win teams through offense, you build championship teams through defense. i liked the picks for us this year and im sure if a good wr was released we would deffinetely look at him. you look at 92 and 93 we had a real good offense but where was our defense ranked? i dont have it but id bet top 5. thats why i liked the idea of a mainly all offense draft, i was one of the guys 3-4 weeks ago saying we should get a wr, but the more i think on it we are building for the future the right way….
Jon,
While I appreciate your optomism, your opinion is based soley on what you think or hope a player might turn out to be. Compare what we have to what other teams have developed over the last two drafts, not including this very last one obviously. We set out to get 3 starters. We burned a 2nd rounder on a guy to be our RT that hasn’t worked out and now Rogers is backing up Flozell at LT. There was far more talent at that pick that could have helped us last year. Hey that’s just one example, just take a look at what some of the more successful teams have done in identifying qulaity players and then compare their results to ours. What I’m saying I assure you isn’t a lone opinion. The Cowboys themselves obviously haven’t been happy with their past performances personell wise. I just hope they have it on track now. It looks good so far, but I also remember the pundits saying our 2002 draft was superb and all we have to show for it is Roy Williams.
“We set out to get 3 starters”
I was trying to state our goal for last years draft was 3 starters.
2002 was the last of the Dave Campo…….Jerry Jones Debacles………and luckily we did get Roy Williams. At least we have that guy and not another bust in the first round.
I think in previous threads Rafael has done a pretty good job of showing our draft failures. Particularly at DE and CB. Two obvious glaring holes on last years team.
I personally have stated I am for drafting Later round Offensive Lineman and then giving them a three year period to develop. Number one an NFL player needs better balance and strength than he did in College. He probably needs to lose weight and gain strength……..and work on foot work and technique………you pay a rookie a lot of money………at offensive tackle and it is a crap shoot.
Take Pettiti……….he will have as good a shot as Rogers……..and if he fails you will not be complaining cuz he was a 6th round pick. Atlanta and Denver use this approach and they both have awesome offensive lines and power rushing attacks. It lets the player develop, learn, get stronger, and not have to play right away………a basic farm system for lineman……..
Also lineman should be interchangeable. That does not appear to be the case in Dallas at this point. But the basic schemes are all the same…….I can understand a little trouble getting footwork down from one side to another……..but lineman are lineman…….and if they take that approach….with say 2 centers that get regular snaps……..and other guys getting most of the snaps at a specified position as starters………then a guy like Rogers, Peterman, Vollers or Pettiti………hey plug him in there anywhere………make him work it all……..that way you lose a guy you plug another one in…….
while Tackle may get more money in the NFL and the Left Tackle gets blamed anytime a QB is sacked………the entire line……..if well coached should be an interchangeable cast of 8 or 9 guys.
