More Draft Log

Posted: April 29, 2006 @ 12:45 pm

Update: Got a call from somebody at the Tavern. I’m going there for the next couple of hours until the 2nd round gets underway. It’s 2:45 Austin time right now. I’m the guy with the “NFC Champs Back-to-Back” t-shirt with Emmitt, Michael, Moose, Nate and Jay Novack on it.

Note: I know you’re having server problems. I am too. The program has eaten many of my posts today. Raul’s been jousting with our hosts for days over this and we will get it fixed as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience. I’m going to take a brief break and come back at the top of the 2nd round. If anybody wants to meet in Austin to toast the new Cowboy and Cowboys to be, e-mail me at ravela87@hotmail.com.

2:06 — The Cowboys select LB Bobby Carpenter.

This has become a popular pick of late, but I want to remind everybody that I predicted this last September. And yes, I am available for trips to Vegas.

1:54 — The Vikings select LB Chad Greenway.

1:45 — The Dolphins take DB Jason Allen.

1:32 — The Rams take CB Tye Hill.

1:26 — The Eagles take DT Brodrick Bunkley.

Things look pretty good for Dallas right now. If the Rams go for a defensive back, Miami could take one of the Lawson/Carpenter duo and Dallas would still have a shot at one.

1:15 — The Browns select OLB Kamerion Wimbley.

Fasten your seatbelts, folks, the run on linebackers has just started.

1:01 — The Ravens trade up a spot and take NT Haloti Ngata.

Brilliant. Cleveland GM Phil Savage pit the Eagles vs. the Ravens and got an extra picks. He’ll probably try and extort the Eagles too. Trade up and get Bunkley or we’ll take him. If they can pull that off, they’ll likely take Wimbley. Inspired.

12:47 — Trade! The Broncos move up and take QB Jay Cutler.

More good news for Dallas, in that Denver was most recently predicted to take a LB. The Rams, who signed Will Witherspoon to team with Dexter Coakley, are far more likely to take a cornerback at 15.

12:35 — The Cards select QB Matt Leinart.

12:31 — The Lions select OLB Ernie Sims.

12:25 — The Bills select S Donte Whitner.

This is great for Dallas in that it keeps the d-linemen Bunkley and Ngata on the board.

This has taken a turn, could Ngata fall to #18? Lawson and Carpeneter look like they will definitely be there.

Like Cutler or not, you have to love the way the Broncos move around to get their guys.

3 coaches I like watching select players-

    Mike Shanahan
    Dennis Green
    Bill Parcells (of course)

LenDale White would be an intiguing pick, but if we’re going to go for an offensive player, I would rather see a big lineman, or a big wide receiver.

I would personally prefer a linebacker like Carpenter.

With Wimbley gone, my choice becomes Carpenter, then Lawson.

Eric R: We’ll have to see how Wimbley does but obviously you think he will be a bust.

Reports from Philly radio (the WhiP - How aptly named is that!) say that a deal sending J.Walker to Philly is done.

If Bunkley and Carpenter both fall to 18, what does Dallas do?

I sent a post before Cleveland’s pick but I guess it got lost….the site has been pretty busy. It was saying that if Cleveland passed on Bunkley then the Eagles, who showed interest in Justice, will probably select Bunkley. Not sure if other teams between Eagles and us have shown interest in Justice, but he could fall into our laps.

What kind of deal was it? Do they still have the 14th? ESPN isn’t reporting all the pieces of these deals, only what’s involved in round one. Maybe I’m just missing the info somehow….
