Submit Your Questions for K.C.

Posted: June 18, 2006 @ 4:07 pm

Football analyst and ESPNet columnist K.C. Joyner has kindly agreed to another question and answer session with you. Since we lack a chat function — or do we, Raul? — I would like questions to submit to him via e-mail. Include yours in the comments thread.

Scientific Football 2005 was a comprehensive analysis of NFL passing games, with stats on tight ends, receivers, quarterbacks, defensive backs and safeties. It was a good start towards the hard statistical analysis you can find in baseball, but left areas like the running game and pass blocking untouched. This year, K.C. has included stats on run blocking and run defense by linemen. He may have more new stat lines, though that’s not yet clear from our e-mail exchanges.

I’d be interested in his analysis of Jason Ferguison’s early season performance opposed to his late season performance.

How about a comparison of the offensive line’s effectiveness with Johnson playing center versus the times that Gurode was playing center. Obviously the Carolina game deserves attention.

    RParr,

Gurode played RG in the Carolina game, subbing for Rivera.

how about the difference TO’s inpact on the eagles with and without him, and what he thinks TO will mean to the cowboys.

Ask K.C. about Dallas’ offensive stats before and after Flo went down.

Also, ask him to rank the top offensive passing units, meaning complete units… QB, 2 WRs, and TE.

I kinda would like to know how well Pettiti did run-blocking since we all know how he did in pass-blocking.

For that you can go to Football Outsiders, scroll down to the 2nd list and look at Right Tackle and Right End.

So, my question would be, which was the progress of the Run Blocking troughout the season, with Flo going down, with Tucker going in, with Rivera playing with questionable health and with Petitti’s conditioning being what you should expect of a rookie.

My first and inmediate guess is that the running success decreased, but how much?

Don’t know if this is appropriate for KC, but back to WR, does anyone else have concerns with Sky Green?

He was discussed by BP as having no endurance at mini camp which was his exact problem at LSU. I think this guy is either lazy or has a condition with his lungs or heart or something.

Doesn’t seem like a player of his size should be discussed in these terms, especially when he could not play full time at LSU because of endurance.

Skyler Green is going to be a special teams punt and kick off player for the most part, and will have three or four plays a game designed for his skills, like end around, double reverse and bubble screens, dont read to much into the weight thing, thats bill not letting players become content.Skyler Green isn’t going to be an every down reciever, he’ll be the fifth wideout/special teams player, thats what he was drafted for.

Maybe KC can opine on my favorite topic: Is the current ‘Boys line on a talent par with the ‘90 Giants? Previous SB winners?
If that is too esoteric, then how about comparing the talent level of current ‘Boys line to the Patriots or Seahawks or Steelers (i.e. other SB contenders.)

    Hello All:

My question to KC would be simply this:

Do we have enough talent at LB to make this 3-4 effective.

I am not asking if we are on par with the Giants of 12 years ago with Taylor,Banks, & Carson.

I am asking if these LB`s are of a SB quality team. In the 3-4 scheme the LB`s are everything !

Oh, another one, last season there were some teams that utilized 2TE sets, it would be interesting to know from his perspective if he sees what Parcells saw, the chances of improving the running and passing games.

How does KC expect Akin Ayodele to perform in our 3-4 defense.

I think many on this board believe we can have a Top 5 defense…does he agree?

IMO, this year’s defense can yield some new Pro Bowl blood. I believe that Ellis, Ware, and Newman can be joining Roy in Hawii. So I guess I have 3 questions for KC:

1st. How does Ellis project as OLB in our 3-4 scheme?

2nd. With a full off-season of weight training, how will Demarcus Ware’s game be effected?

3rd. When I look at Terrance Newman, I see a young pupil of the CB position. Cornerbacking is becoming a lost art, that Newman seems to be mastering with each year that passes. IMO, Newman is progressing to become the best CB since Deion played. Where does he rank on KC’s list among NFL CBs? (Currently I rank Newman 2nd behind Deangelo Hall)

BTW…for those who said the ‘Boys needed to draft a WR with our first pick last year (this was pre-TO), specifically Santonio Holmes…

He was charged Monday with assaulting a woman, his SECOND arrest since he was chosen in the first round of the NFL draft.

The women said Holmes was the father of her child. Holmes is 22 years old. He already has 3 children.

I was just wondering what statistical differences were there in our pass coverage after Anthony Henry was injured.

I would also like to know how the Henry injury affected our defense as a whole putting into mind that Al Singleton was also a factor with how our defense performed in the second half of the season.

i was wondering who you think will be the AFC and NFC super bowl contenders

    ManTab on June 19th, 2006 7:14 pm

My question is very simple (I have not read the thread so I guess I’m repeating someone’s questions already):

Do we have enough in our O-Line and Free Safety positions to make it to the super bowl? Plain and simple.

I would like to know which of our lineman were responsible for the most losses on running plays. It seems we had more than our share of negative plays in the running game.

I also wonder which of our rookie defensive ends was best against the run.

    Doomsday on June 19th, 2006 8:07 pm

My first question should have been about which OFFENSIVE linemen was responsible for the most losses.

I would like a comparision of petitti and fabini, from 2005 both run and pass blocking.Petitti is listed on cb.com as the early favorite to start.I just wonder how long that will last.

Will Henson be cut or beat out the rookie for our third string QB?

Got something to say?
