Turn Your Frown Upside Down

Posted: August 31, 2006 @ 11:15 am

It’s been awfully quiet since T.O. started practicing again, no? Feels like weeks ago that the circus was in town, documenting every turn of the exercise bike wheel, every hangnail, every grimace in Bill Parcells general direction.

And now, good news on Mike Vanderjagt, who can at least kick field goals again. He’ll even audition his kickoff leg tonight, if recent word from Valley Ranch is true.

Meanwhile, in Indy, they’re concerned about Adam Vinatieri’s ankle. Opinions on his injury differ, from a bad sprain to a broken ankle bone. Regardless, it appears he might miss a couple of the Colts early games.

Turn the frown upside down. The regular season is almost here. And cross your fingers while you’re at it. There is one more fake game to play. We need the good health trend to continue.

The fates pay no attention to me. If the Cowboys fortunes are tied to what I write we’re all in huge trouble.

With the caveat that ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’, here’s to wishing Vanderjagt well tonight. I already forget the names of anyone who kicekd for us last year!

Posted this on another thread here but I’m wondering if anyone else is feeling this about the league . . .

–Maybe its the Jeff George signing. Maybe its the Vikings and their old qb Brad Johnson. Maybe its how bad Favre looked on Monday. But doesn’t it seem that the ENTIRE league has QB-WR-PASSING GAME issues this year except for us and a few others?

I would only put teams in the Great Very Good or Good Passing Offense category and the are:

Great - Indy, Cincinnati, New England

    Very Good - Carolina, Dallas,

    Good- Seattle, NYGiants, Pittsburgh, Denver.

Everyone else has issues. New QB, new WRs, players with potential but not performance, injuries, new head coaches and coordinators, etc., etc.

Even the teams in my ‘good’ category have their issues.

Bring back Dan Fouts, Richard Todd, Steve Bartkowski, Bradshaw, Staubach, D White, Montana, Ken Anderson, Simms, McMahon, Thiesmann, Lynn Dickey, Elway, Moon, Esiason, S Young, R Cunningham, Joe Ferguson, Jim Kelly, Brian Sipe, Kosar, Pat Haden, JEverett, B Hebert, etc., etc., and lets get some passing games out there!!!

we will know a team is really in trouble when they call up Ryan Leaf.

I’ve been a sceptical of BP for a few years now. I will admit I thought he was as imaginative as luke warm coffee. Even if the ‘Boys don’t reach the big dance this year, he’s won me over. No one circles their date with ‘Boys as a sure win any more. This team is talented, deep, and disciplined. BP was true to his word about their being only one fat guy on the team. I’ll admit to the world that I was wrong about him. He knows what he’s doing. Hell, he even coached Jones into being a pretty good GM. Let the scrubs play tonight. It might be their only chance to put a star on the helmet. This team needs a few real games to become scary good.

We traded Sean Ryan for a seventh round pick. Man BP loves those seventh round picks.

I’m kind of surprised we were even able to get a 7 for him. Considering our recent track record with 7th round picks, I’m glad to see us stockpiling em.

I would like to see our first team offense go 2 drives and the first team defense go the entire first half. If Fabini and Green don’t show anything, I think they both go.

    They were Cortez & Sushiam

Boy what a bad memory ! Oh I get it !

    Steeleyedmissle:

How could you be luke warm about a coach who won 2 bowls with the Giants, took the Pats to the bowl & left them with a lot of talent that helped them win a couple & took a hapless team like the NY Jets to the AFC championship game ! Man you are one hard dude to please.

Anyway I`m with Raf tonight regardless who wins I`ll be rooting for an injury free outing.

BP can do whatever he wants ( I very rarely second guess him ) but I would give DB,TG,Flo, TO & Vanderjerk the night off. We know what they can do. Especially if Flo does not play , with Minn Def line & McQuinstan in there I would put DB safely on the bench ! IMO

Reldbr I think you could add Arizona, Miami, Minnesota and maybe Baltimore to your teams that can/will chuck the ball around successfully this season.
And take out Pittsburgh, for God’s sake. Roethlisberger is a fraud. I’d rather have Bledsoe and (and i never, ever thought i’d say this) Romo.

    In response to post #3

I think I’d have to put the Cards in the very good category. If they get their running game going it’ll only improve their passing game, which I believe led in yards and maybe even TDs last year.

Jesse, give Julius and Witten the night off as well. We’ve got Polite, MBIII and Thompson to carry the rock and plenty of TEs to run in all sets.

A 7th rounder for Sean Ryan??? lol Man we made out like bandits on that one!!!

Plus, that 7th rounder is almost like a late 6th, because I truly believe that the Jets will have the worst record in the NFL>

    Cards?

Cards throw the ball BY NECESSITY. I dont think they are good. Maybe I’ll add the Rams, but they are changing their system.

Pittsburgh does have a good passing SYSTEM. I agree Rothlisberger MAY be overrated, but you cant argue with a 27-4 record. Plus he has a pretty good career passer rating. They are low risk-low reward but they do it well. I think they stay in the good category.

Got something to say?
