Panic On, Panic Off

“… RO/S WERE DISPATCHED ON A CALL BY DALLAS FIRE AND RESCUE REGARDING COMP ATTEMPTING SUICIDE BY PRESCRIPTION PAIN MEDICATION…”
– Initial Dallas Police Department Narrative on Terrell Owens, posted online Wednesday morning
“…it’s my understanding that there was some information that was released prior to me speaking to the media. What I want to say about the information that went out: we are the official spokespersons for the Dallas Police Department. How that information got out, I don’t know. But this is the official statement: the Dallas Police Department does not have any other investigations going on on this incident…”
– Dallas PD spokesman Sgt. Rick Watson, Wednesday afternoon

how convienient that the cop shop now recants. someone should be fired over this, immediately
Oh my. ESPN’s NFL page headline: “Believe It Or Not”
I know…I know…quit looking at ESPN.
ah who cares. the media always hypes stuff up especially when it comes to owens…i say eff them!!!!
Just listened to Initials presser on home page. Even if you are very skeptical and question every thing about him, it is hard to come away with any doubts about the hyped up media accounts.
I think there should be an investigation into steroid use in the media.
You got to admit there are a lot of big heads, and puffed up stories. You just didn’t see this type of reporting only a few years ago.
Until there is some type of testing in place, I think you have to question all of them until they have proven they are clean.
what is wrong with Mosley? “TO’s Spin patrol takes over?” What the hell is that? How many times do these guys have to be bitten before they back off?
The spokeman for the plice department doesn’t know how this info was leaked out? I’ll tell him how IT WAS FABRICATED end of story!
I will post this on every new thread we open. People should be held accountable for the BS they print. The police dept should be held accountable, and every media player that prointed the suicide reports should be held accountable. This is no way to disrespect a human being even if he’s the most hated player in the world.
mantab..i agree with you 100%….the only thing is t.o. just wants it to go away…he always has to face crap like this and hes used to it. i really feel for him because as long as he plays he will have to go through crap like this.
The view here is much different than most of what I’ve read. I’m not sure what to think yet, but there still is the question of why the police report said she took two pills out of his mouth. Someone’s lying there (or both of them). Owens and his publicist would seem to have more to gain from lying though.
scott…that police report is fabricated and a bunch of garbage…the police dept had a news conference and stated “i am the official reporter” and not the information on the internet.
ScottB, I’d rethink your, “…more to gain statement…”. With that as your bellweather you’re easy pickin’s for the media. Every accusation must be true as, ‘the accused has more to lose? Sometimes, especially with all the lousy liars out there in the media, the accused is merely innocent, but still has lots to lose.
Don’t know that the report was fabricated or not. It doesn’t say much. Everything was based on the question ‘Did you try to harm yourself?’ to which his answer was yes.
The player, nor his publicist denied the question or answer. It was simply said that he didn’t remember any of it, he was out and doesn’t know where that came from.
He didn’t know why he might have answered it that way and that he has not been depressed but may have said something otherwise, he simply does not remember.
I don’t know that the police spokesman was saying it was untrue as much as a ‘CYA’ ploy because it should never have been out there. He is saying he gives out official information not the initial reports.
I don’t know if we will be getting any more facts on this (not that that will stop anyone) until the 911 tape becomes available.
ScottB,
Why do you give any weight to the police report when the PD abandoned it this afternoon?
crazy stuff right. on a side note, did you guys notice when Michael Irvin came on ESPN this morning he had a bandage over his hand. So that Terry Glenn, TO, and Irvin with hand injuries at the same time. I wonder if Drew Pearson’s carpul tunnel is acting up, jk. Back to the subject though, sucide or not I feel for TO. Millions or not what makes you happy in this life is friends and it appears TO does not have much in the way of true freinds. I mean think about if the worst case senarieo is true and TO did attempt suicide, his publicist was with him. Not a homie from back in the day, not a girlfreind, not a true freind. Even if it isn’t true it is apparent that TO is surrounded by Yes-men trying to bleed him for what he is worth. I have no idea if this is by design or not but today I give him the benifit of the doubt on every level. If the suicide attempt is false he deserves it and if he indeed did try to attempt suicide he deserves it even more.
Shane J.
If T.O. really tried to commit suicide:
1. Why was he released approximately 15 hours after being admitted? That’s not SOP with suicide attempts. You’re given a psych evaluation and kept 48 hours for observation, so you don’t try it again or try to hurt anybody else. That’s highly reckless if he truly is suicidal;
2. How was he able to practice less than a day after having his stomach pumped?
3. The PD denies all comments about the report. They won’t even answer questions about it.
4. If he took 15, 20 or 35 pills, do you think that could be kept quiet?
5. I was on the phone with my rehab source during T.O.’s presser. She told me, “if he was truly depressed to the point of suicide, he couldn’t go before the cameras less than a day later and fake it.”
The only thing credible about the suicide claim was that it was written on D.P.D. paper, and they’ve done nothing today to stand behind it. Everything about Owens’ story, meanwhile, is plausible from a medical and psychological perspective.
Can I say 100% he didn’t do it? No I can’t. But his story checks out a lot more.
Everything we’ve heard is that he’s been gunning to get healthy to play the Eagles in two weeks. Does that sound like a guy who wants to die or stick it to his old team?
most people made up their minds right away when they heard espn originally start posting statements, i thought initially someone in the media was fabricating something with no back bone to give their story credibility and publicity. I had to deal with all day my coworkers constantly badgering me about how the cowboys were finished, and how stupid they were for signing owens. All i constantly said was its bull sh#%, i wanted to hear it from owens first knowing how the media loves to create something out of nothing with owens wether it be a hamstring or pain pills. with that said as we all watched him say it was not suicide people still did not believe him, so all im saying is people will make their judgements no matter what the evidence, just as the media did. TO from what i have watched has done nothing wrong so far, and seems to give all his effort on the field. So i give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he stays strong as he will constantly be ridiculed for the rest of his career.
Raf,
Slow down, I was not making a case for it being a suicide attempt (read all my other posts since this happened).
I was simply saying the initial (police) report may not have been a fraud as it didn’t say anything about suicide (I am refering to the one you linked to on smokinggun.com) it simply said he answered yes, when asked if he tried to harm himself.
I am merely saying the paper could have been accurate as far as a report and still have been way off on the facts gathered as a result of an investigation.
Being from the Philly area. I’m so glad TO is out of our city. If he wanted to kill himself, then be it. I feel nothing for that guy. He acts like he’s 5 years old and just wants attention from anyone who will listen. He really needs to get some professional help. Maybe he should contact Dr. Phil….. I really feel sorry those Dallas people, they have to put up with a lot of crap from him.
I’m not from Dallas/Ft.Worth but I think someone should be held accountable at the police dept. If not fired, afterall there are usually fed & state civil service laws involved when firing people, at least their name should be made public.
fact is. owens is more than fine and was on the field today running routes. hes more than fine and he didnt attempt suicide. fact is and this is disturbing but people will believe what they hear first, true or false. fact is that the media will over blow up situations on owens. fact is that he didnt have his stomach pumped in which he could not have attempted suicide taking a few pills. fact is t.o. will go for 100 yards and 2 touch downs against philly next weekend.
Pilmist, I feel the same way about you but think the Dallas people, as I’ve visited there a few times, wish you all the worst.
pilmist,
I believe you. That entry does sound like something that would come from a Filthy fan. Stupid, moronic, lack of any kind of reason present in any reasonable and prudent person.
The little greenie’s fans cheered when Irvin suffered his career ending injury on the little greenies field. That was all anyone had to know about the scum that exists in that city. Pilmist must have been one of them. We’ll take Owens happily, but the little greenie’s fans can bite my shorts.
mlf, I don’t know what he did last night. None of us really know.
They are still calling this an internal police document on TV. That’s either highly irrisponsible of the media or they have it on good authority that it really is a police document. The more I think about it, it’s more likely someone got some inside info on what happened and added some to it. If it really is a police document, there would be an awful lot of lying going on.
Sorry, I completely forgot to spell check that.
***off the subject****
Drew Henson got picked up by the Vikings today.
pilmist-
I thought there was a filter on this site???? I thought your team had to win a super bowl before you could have an opinion.
Suicide? Never mind suicide! I want to know the where Randy Galloway and Jennifer Floyd-Engel were last night.
Seriously, it is obvious to me that Baylor Medical Center didn’t think it was a suicide attempt, or Owens would still be there undergoing psychiatric evaluation. The Dallas police have also backed off that initial report.
He also looked (and acted) awfully healthy for someone who was supposedly near death only 14 hours earlier.
While I don’t blame the media for going with the evidence they had at the time, it should now be pretty obvious to everyone with an ounce of intelligence that there was no suicide attempt.
Mr Bill- don’t you think they should have confirmed the report with the police as authentic? It would have been the first thing a responsible reporter would do, you know going to the source and all.
I purposely did NOT listen to the Philthy sports-talk radio today because I really do need to keep my blood preasure down nowadays.
Keeping with the un-educated, low-class Philthy fan base way of thinking, I can only guess that they are falling all over themselves with excitement like they did when Irvin was hurt.
Philthy fans that condone this type of thinking are the lowest form of human being.
Well said Norm! (about philly having to win a sb first)
i could be my paycheck that on 10/8 the eagles will lose to the cowboys
Nashville talk radio-
Titans fans think the Cowboys are distracted and can be beat now. Some guy who claims to know Parcells says Owens will be cut because Bill has had it with the distractions, regardless of what has happened guys name is coach Donley??spelling??.
Many callers are really misinformed about the facts, but to the radio stations credit it would 1/2 correct the callers. This tells me ESPN has accomplished its goals. The public in large is misinformed.
I’m interested in what is being said in other cities. If you have listened to local media or fans would love to hear their take on all this.
please post
I’ve been watching ESPN news for the past hour and half, and they haven’t been that bad. If you listen. The only one who seemed to go beyond the facts and into speculation was Ed Werder.
MCNorm,
I’ve found the last four years that anytime somebody says, “and I know Bill Parcells” that what comes immediately after will be a lie. You can bank on it.
Cosby -
someone today posted TO was a diversion by Bill to hide the signing of Henson.
now that was funny.
But it’s true, ESPN news has not said whether or not the initial police report was fabricated or substantied. They have just said that that was the report leaked to the Dallas sports radio.
Cosby-
Like I said earlier they are still at fault even if the report is fabricated because they were not responsible reporters for not authenticating the report with the police dept.
Their source denies the report, that says oh oh to me so they started saying who released the report to divert responsibility of reporting untruthful things. I thought there was some journalism rules about getting two sources before reporting something. Raf?
Here I am, Norm Some of us have to go make a living you know!
I’ll stick by what I said-We should cut him and he should go get his life together. And it’s still a lot more likely that this was what was originally reported.
Everyone, take off the HOMER GOGGLES-Oh, let’s make that your 3D goggles!
1)What’s more likely-that the original report reflected the facts, but now it’s being sanitized for the sake of TO and team? OR, the current idea-what, some police and EMT’s played a practical joke and lied last night? Why would they do that??
2) You guys who bash the “mediots” sure spend a lot of time watching and listening to them! I don’t have cable and rarely even see ESPN. But it’s interesting that you are more willing to believe the current reports-I guess because they are what you want to believe….but you’re getting those reports from the same “Mediots” you are disparaging..
3) Rafael, every case is unique-please don’t quote ‘experts’ who say he ‘couldn’t’ do this or that-I have personal experience with issues like this, and all can indeed seem normal on the outside before AND after an emotional breakdown.
4)If Owens was on the Redskins the entire tone of the comments would be different on this site. Go by the facts-believe what you want based on what you know about the past. Based on Owens’ past, is it likely he had a real or faked suicide? Absolutely! No one denies he’s a head case! List for yourselves what he has done since arriving here: Missed camp with an injury that magically cleared up when the season started-unlike Steve Smith’s real injury; brought his own team of trainers and used an oxygen tank(weird) And now completely distracted our team before a key stretch of games. And you guys still want him on our team? I keep saying it-whatever he brings to the field (not much yet) he takes away even more off the field. Cut him.
He is reminding me of Tom Cruise for some reason now-that’s what all this is making me think of-just weird. Let Dan Snyder have him
MusicCity-here in North Cal, where they know TO well, all is very cynical. They don’t trust anything from To or his publicist or the team. They found Parcell’s conference very damning-he was way too evasive for them.
Just like me!
larry officially win the biggest idiot award of the day…you really believe that he took 30-40 pills, and had his stomach pumped in his alleged attempt to commit suicide and was let out of the hospital less than 24 hours after this??? and on the practice field as well catching balls??? any idiot knows that if you took that many pills you wouldnt even be out of the hospital or away from police watch. or on the practice field. you are an idiot and you need to give up your login to this blog
Larry the cable guy!!!
get er done
tipp- come on man I like Larry, he has an opinion that I really don’t agree with but he came back on without having the facts now, he just said he doesn’t have ESPN or cable and like I said earlier I wanted to hear how the other radio stations were reporting this.
hey Larry how do you live without cable you just said you had a job? You have to get some cable during football season. A lot of things have changed as the day went on
larry-
By the way I’ve put 10 hour days in on a computer making contracts for my own company, I normally don’t get this much time around a computer. So I dont have a job so to speak but I guarantee you I work more than you do You just got home.
fellas,
back off each other, remember its the cowboys against the world.
Isnt it plausible that the initial police report was inaccurate for honest reasons? the girl did call 911, and may very well have incorrectly assumed he had taken the pills to harm himself, communicating that assumption to emergency services who notified the police.
The police later backed off the report, but the real question is:
why did it get released under the questionable circumstances?
why didnt the media do more to confirm it before reporting it?
This thing is practically over but it is going to go on through sunday (likely full steam ahead) or until something else happens.
what we dont want is to be at each other’s throats over it.
After listening to Owens and Kim Etheredge at today’s press conference, Owens sounded tired, Eheredge sounded forgetful, and not completely believable. Specifically, she said it had ‘been a long night, and couldn’t remember everything that happened’ when asked if she’d removed pills from T.O.’s mouth.
If I had to guess, I’d say she was lying when she said she had not told emergency staff that Owens had been depressed. If she wasn’t lying, I can’t understand the motive for the (apparent?) police claim that she HAD told them Owens was depressed. Maybe she perceived ‘grogginess’ as ‘depression’, said ‘depressed’ to the cops, and then, day-after, thought she’d better deny saying ‘depressed’.
I’ve really been sick and tired of the T.O. news for over 2 years now, and didn’t miss him being out of the headlines for a couple of weeks. I’d rather see stories about Marc Colombo, or Drew Henson, or Matt Baker.
I know that won’t happen.
For Tennessee, I’d like to see Owens inactive. For Philadelphia, I’d like Owens inactive. During that time, could he be kept in a straight-jacket, in a rubber room, with medical supervision, and with a TV to watch the Philly game? If he starts bouncing off the walls, frustrated at being unable to catch passes against the Eagles, then the diagnosis could be more conclusive.
If he cheers(rationally, and ‘normally’) for his team, then he should be allowed to play against the Giants. And that also will allow more time for the swelling in his hand to reduce.
Would somebody tell me how to link a report plz.
How grateful do you think Cincy is about the TO debacle to distract from Odell Thurman getting suspended for the season?
Larry the cable guy:
do you have a brain at all?
Cosby-
your right that should be the story of the day, I wonder what the record is for arrest on one team in one year? they have got to be getting close.
Larry,
The police and EMTs are lying for the team?
Come on, man. If Owens ate a bottle of pills and was let go way ahead of normal “for the team,” and tries again and succeeds a week down the line how liable are the doctors? You think a doctor or EMT will risk their licence and livelihood because T.O.’s publicist or somebody with the team says “please?”
And I’m the one with 3-D goggles? Uh, no. And I shouldn’t quote experts? People who I’ve known for years who have studied and treated people with emotional problems for years, in order to gain a more informed perspective?
So I should do what exactly, stick to a report that the police disavow? Make stuff up?
Personal insight: Most likely TO is prescribed Vicodin for pain. Anything weaker doesn’t help and doctors are very hesitant to prescribe anything stronger. It is the ‘wonder’ drug that doctors will prescribe for most types of pain so I assume that’s the drug in question. I have taken Vicodin on and off for an old lower back injury and as accustomed as my body is to taking it, it would damn near kill me to take as many pills as has been talked about. If they weren’t used to taking it, half that number would knock most people on their butts for more than 12 hours if not outright kill them.
As soon as I heard this, I knew there had to be much more than what was being reported. 20-40 Vicodin would probably have finished the job if he really intended to commit suicide.
Dudes,
Not kidding. I just heard a report that TO is dead. They’re covering it on ESPN NEWS Channel 15. Apparently, TO was leaving the lockerroom this afternoon and he intentionally delayed putting his helmet on long enough for a two ton anvil labeled ‘ESPN’ to fall on his head. According to ESPNNews 15, TO saw the anvil seconds before it dropped and exclaimed ‘that thing could kill me’ which proclaimed his intent to hurt himself.
Its over. TO is dead. Long live Donovan McNabb!!!
reldbr:
You’re a moron.
And not a funny moron.
cowboys home page says that the cowboys knew last night about TO, didn’t Bill say today he found out about it before practice today? I could be very wrong here, somebody with a knowledge of the time line please correct me. The one ting about Bill that drives me crazy is he leaves you in the dark way to much.
Bill just doesnt want to be in this mess anymore then he already his
is sorry
it wouldnt surprise me at all if he knew last night one of his players was taken to the ER and some circumstances.
Whether he knew anything about details is another story, especially if he was told it appeared to be routine last night.
Once he got to work, im sure he committed to preparing for the practice and was out of the loop on alot of the stuff. I dont want the HC jumping to conclusions like the media did.
the only player on the boy’s injury report is TO (questionable).
titans have several listed as questionable.
About the police report:
In plenty of situations were emotions are running high, information gets “tangled up”. Owens publicist could have very well responded to an officer’s question without even thinking because her focus was on Owens’ health and she was extremely worried over wether he was going to live or die, plus she could have been in sghock. Watching someone die (which she may have been perceiving) is a very scary situation. A very high emotional state, that can often causes people, women especially, to overreact or to act without using much thought. If she had called 911, and Owens was dispondent for 10-15 minutes while she waited for parametics to arrive, it could have very easily scared the living *&^% out of her. If the police came and started asking her questions, the shock factor and her own ignorance about the entire situation could have caused more confusion. She may have tried to inform the police about particulars like “how many pills did he take?” .. without having the accurate knowledge of how many Owens actually swallowed. Thus you get conflicting reports. But it is apparent now that T.O. had no interest in hurting himself, he simply took too many pain killers, probably in an attempt to relieve the high level of pain he was suffering from after catching some passes.
Well the media spin tomorrow is going to be something like…
“WHATEVER happenned the man just needs to heal….”
“NO ONE really knows what happenned, but if he really tried to harm himself (blah blah blah), he needs help…..”
Im sure TO will be touched that all these guys care so much about him.
Not to make light of the situation, Im not surprised if they quietly put TO in touch with some real professionals, but if that happens, its no one’s business.
Norm, copy and paste the link that you want to put up.
wow,
some guy who calls himself the czar on foxsports says the whole thing sounds plausible to him. first one like that ive seen.
On Parcells knowledge:
He never claimed not to know Owens was admitted to the hospital last night. That was a slight twist of his words. Parcells was ignorant about “what actually happened”. He explained he has no accurate knowledge of what actually happened, and then saw reports this morning. Meaning - he may have gone to bed last night thinking Owens had an “allergic reaction”, but then before practice today, he learned of the reported “suicide attempt”. His answers that followed seemed to say that he had no more credible information that Owens attempted suicide than what the media has already had. Not last night .. not at the time of the presser.
I’ve realized that there are as many idiots in the national sports media as in the national political media.
Looking for the TRUTH right here.
unfreaking beliveable. i hope he sues DPD and ESPN for all they are worth and then some. I’ve never liked TO. I was ok with his signing, simply he could help us, and accepted it, and cheered him on, and gave him a clean slate. I officially like him now!
MCCOURT
Who are you? Lighten up. I have TO’s home number if you are worried. He’s OK. The Cowboys are OK. We still have a game this weekend against somebody (the Titans I think). And the stock market will open with no interupptions.
My advice to you - sell your Disney stock and stop watching ESPN. Crisi over, go to sleep.
123
what i want to know is how conscioud T.O. really was when they askked him if he was trying to harm himself. I mean for god’s sake, the guy had just ingested who knows how many painkillers and had been “unresponsive” just a few hours earlier
you think he might possibly still be a little out of it then???
this is just the media taking yet another opportunity (albeit a huge one) to cry wolf
. . .BTW, while TO wasn’t killing himself in the past day, the following happened:
1- Chargers safety Kiel arrested for drug trafficking.
2- Begals LB Thurnman suspended for year for DUI.
3- Dolphins DT Traylor fails drug test. Will be disciplined.
4- Bear CB manning pleads no contest to assualt. Sentencing awaits.
5- Former Texas RB Taylor pleads guilty to felony drug charges. Faces jail time.
6- Drew Henson signs on practice squad for some team somewhere AND. . .
7-Walt Disney stock (parent of ESPN) down in modest trading.
If the DPD issued an official statement that said TO tried to kill himself and ESPN did not report it… who gets sued then? Everyone? No one? Whoever you dislike or disagree with?
Oh lawdy, the media! the media! They’re behind all that I don’t like! Holy Mackeral, how dare the media not provide me with totally accurate information every second of every day!?
How dare ESPN report an official DPD news release!?
How dare ESPN report TO’s explanation of what happened? THEY SHOULD BE SUED FOR THAT TOO!! HOw DARE ESPN not know what happens every second of every moment of TO’s personal life and report to me on it with total accuracy no matter what the DPD officially states?
I blame ESPN for my day long, week long, month long, year long, decade long, life long consumption of every particle of news they release, it ain’t MY fault.
reldbr,
great post (#73).
For everyone who didn’t overreact and knew that this was bulldust from the start and there were plenty of us, enjoy the following…
Derrick:
“I’m returning my popcorn. I told you all this wasn’t a smart move by the cowboys signing this guy, he has major mental problems.
Maybe the medication had an adverse reaction to the steroids he was taking.
How do you think his team mates would react to him in the dressing room if this is suicide attempt is true? Do you think that this is a guy they would want to go to war on the field with, I think not!â€Â
randy v
“I did want to add to my last comment that T/O, as a man, is in dire need of mental helpâ€Â.
eightball:
“Sounds like he may be bipolar. Look at the way he has acted over the last few years. At times very happy and congenial, … at other times very moody and introverted.â€Â
AzCowboy:
“No one should be surprised that the formula is there for a suicidal gesture.(psychiatry speak) The man thrives on attention. Lets hope the Cowboys can see that he gets the professional help that he needs to prevent the next attempt from being successful.â€Â
And last but not least Larry! I enjoy your posts very much my friend, sometimes I agree and sometimes I can’t believe what I am reading :).
Others may remember Larry from such famous posts as the mysterious TO effect on the team in the Jags game; “Hmm, how did the Boys look on the sidelines? Anyone here notice dazed looks, a lack of focus/concentration??â€Â
My new favorite Larry post is;
larry:
“You better believe it, Norm-I told you so! I’m the only one on this post regularly who has refused to drink the TOKA-TO KoolAid. If it wasn’t this it would be something else-if he recovers it will be more crap later-he has to be the center of attention-he’s one step better that Alonzo Spellman psychologically-we should cut him and recommend counselingâ€Â.
That was from a couple of threads back, I thought you might have recanted by now but as his post on this thread shows you’re sticking to your guns. Apparently anyone who thinks this wasn’t a suicide is wearing ‘HOMER GOGGLES’.
I like your conviction Larry just don’t agree with your cause.
We’ve argued before over TO before Larry, I hoped this event would let you finally see. It is YOU who are drinking the TO KoolAid as you swallow every line of corporate sensationalist advertising that the mainstream spews out of their lying filthy immoral and principle bereft mouth. Yeah TO probably has an over inflated ego and likes attention, so what? That sounds like nearly all the women and half the men I’ve met in my life, the only difference is TO actually does have the talent in his field to back his boasts.
To everyone who bought it, this is a disease that pervades corporate mass media all across the world in all divisions, sports, politics, science and social issues. Why do people continue to take the word of organizations that are constantly and continuously caught fabricating, embellishing and outright lying in all aspects of there operations. It used to infuriate me, now I just find it hilarious :).
i agree, great post. these real-life incidents (not police, or media fabricated) went by today with little or no press. they would rather spend all day (literally) on this non-story.
And to the alarmist’s who keep saying this is and will be too big of a distraction for everybody. HUH!???? Who do you think these players and coaches are? Young teenagers just entering the emotionally volatile state of puberty? C’mon man these are grown men, most of them big tough men, no?
53 players, probably a dozen or so coaches, the owner and his staff, a multimillion dollar organization, are all undone because one player had an accident with his medication and was back at training the next day… hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! If any team in the league was that mentally weak and immature they would go 0-16.
Hot off the press; 6’3†310 pound Nose Tackle Jason Ferguson doesn’t know if he will play this weekend against Tennessee because he is distracted by a teammate who had a minor medical problem. The teammate who had the problem has recovered and will play but 10 year NFL veteran Ferguson has mysteriously ‘lost focus’, and an undisclosed source says he’s having trouble eating, sleeping and maintaining bladder and bowel control.
Future Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells is reportedly considering retirement any day now as he simply can’t deal with the distractions. Nothing in his 18 year, almost 200 victories, plus 2 Superbowl wins career could have possibly prepared him for having a player miss practice and spend the night in hospital :).
reldbr,
HaHa, very funny!!
Joey-
Keep it up, buddy!!! Your on the list now. You better lawyer up because me and TO are suing your butt!!
The media sux!! Long live the . . . not media !!!???!!!
Oh Lord Luke!!!!
Look there are a lot of impressionable minds here and if you keep beating them up with irrefutable logic, then we all wouldn’t have the pleasure of mocking them some day.
I want my turn at laughing at Larry too you know!!
When do I get to laugh at some ridiculous post from Randy V?
And when I want to openly laugh at the Azcowboy and the ubiquitous ‘eightball’ where will they be? Hiding and lurking, afraid to show their opinions lest they be mocked and beaten with the baton of truth.
C’mon Luke. Share!!!
reldbr -
The media sux, death to all mediots,
now to post on this blog, the liberal blogs, the conservative blogs, to watch CNBC, Fox news, comedy central, ESPN and then I’ll read today’s papers.
Oh my aching eyeballs! After reading this thread and all the opinions expressed, I’ve come to the conclusion (once again) that sensationalism stirs up interest … regardless of whether it’s real or not.
Who knows what really happened? For that matter, who really thinks that it will be significant in, let’s say, a week from now? May be that it will still be bantied about by the blithering mediots, bigoted fans, and just the plain stupid, misinformed who pass themselves off as knowledgeable.
The reality of all of it is this … game time. Who really gives a rat’s ass as to who does what during the week? It’s game day performance that really counts and is the reality that we all relish.
Is TO a head case? Well, who amongst us can say that he is any more so that the one you see in the mirror each morning or the one sitting next to you at work? The only difference is that TO is a “media darling” in that everything he does is under the scrutiny of the national media and reported oftentimes too quickly in order to “beat the competition” to the story. Damn the truth … sell headlines!!!
On the odd occassion I am glad I live in a different time zone — allowed me to skip the last 300 posts of the Amateur Psychology blog.
My favourite quote on the whole thing: “We know him. He loves himself,” Bradie James said. “He’s not going to do anything to endanger himself.”
I guess his past behaviour has turned him into a lightening rod for this sort of thing but its hard to comprehend how absolutely nothing can be turned into a national state of emergency. There was even an AP article quoting Keyshawn (?), Chad Johnson (??), Sapp (????) and a random Philly fan. You’d think he been killed in a bizarre run-in with a stingray….
i think i need my waders. its getting deep in here
alanTdot,
That was hilarious man. I read it three times and cracked up each time!
Next time I’ll leave a little for you too
well, im all TOed out for today, hope tomorrow non-story dont take all day to cover. goodnight all
Joey
I hate the media. It picks on poor loveable TO. It lies. It cheats. It steals. It covets thy neighbors wife. It spits on puppies. It kicks people while their down, and does . . bad stuff when their up. It fakes orgasms (Ok, that parts not so bad) and is a bad tipper.
Its green and brown and gross looking. And it really smells . .bad. And its..its .. its ME!! Oh my g#D I just realized!! Its me. And all of us bloggers here. And the universe. And TO’s publicist. And TO and . . .where are those other 35 painkillers, I could use them right now!!
This my take..
Have anyone of you seen a person who had a reaction to pain killer?
I have, you can not expect a logical answer from them, because they are not on their right mind… Drugs like strong pain killers can make you gruggy to degree that anyone effected can say yes to any question you ask them.

reldbr:
Terrence Kiel was arrested, not convicted, for possession of codeine-based cough syrup. He’s also suspected of sending some of that cough syrup back to his hometown of Lufkin, Texas.
Maybe smokers’ cough is common in Lufkin, Texas, and maybe Terrence was just trying to be helpful.
Mc-C
Drug Enforcement Administration officials said Wednesday that Kiel admitted to shipping at least two parcels of prescription cough syrup to Texas. While Kiel did not tell the DEA his motive, the agency in Texas has found widespread abuse of codeine-based cough syrup mixed with soft drinks or drugs and referred to as “lean.”
In related news, Nate Newton was arrested for transporting a tractor trailer of medical marijuana to sick cancer patients in California.
reldbr:
Well, at least Terrence has admitted it. He could have told DEA his motive was to help chronic coughers, but he was wiser to have said nothing about his motive.
I just don’t think this is that big of a deal, and hope he’s active again soon with the Chargers.
Did anyone see Marques Colston run over that Falcon early in the 3rd quarter Monday Night? Some comparisons have been made between Colston and a ‘young’ T.O., to return to the topic.
slug, post 55,
it depends on whether it was 500, 750, or 1000 mg. those are usually the generic dosages they come in, believe me, my friend was a hardcore pillpopper before he went into treatment. lol. and the strength or weakness doesnt depend on the type of drug, but the amount of mg.
Kiel is going away for a long time. When the DEA gets involved, it’s not a good thing.
The media just jumping on this T.O. story is just not cool. They jump on any story, even if it is unfounded. It would be great if T.O. can play on Sunday and have a huge game, especially now that Terry Glenn also injured his hand.
hey people, lets get real.dont you think if T.O.really has depression and thoughts of ending his life, dont you think it would have shown up last year.im mean damn,if i played for the beagles and their scum fans,i would be depressed and would think about killing myself.if he made it thru that hell hole,i think we can rest easy .
To paraphrase MNF: “Are you ready for some football!”
New thread please!!!
Wow, Mr. Tipp007 or whatever it’s hard to argue with that kind of well-reasoned logic! I’ll try-
“No, I’m not, you are! No, YOU give up your membership!” There.
Ummm, some of you guys take this stuff WAY too seriously (Thanks for your bit o’support, NORM). You may need some counseling, TIPP, about how upset you get when someone disagrees with you about a FOOTBALL TEAM!
Meanwhile, you didn’t address anything I mentioned. You don’t think Owens has a screw loose? You don’t think he should get counseling? Whether this was all real or faked, you don’t think there’s a good chance this is all some weird manipulation to get attention? You don’t think 80% of the people on this site would have 180 degree different opinions if this guy wasn’t on THEIR team?
If you induce vomiting you feel fine 24 hours later-they don’t get in your system…..that’s why you induce the vomiting, right?
Ahhh well, I listed out our history post-TO-just the facts. Time will tell how it goes from here. Maybe that 5% chance will come true, it was an accident, he’s fine, and he will now suddenly turn into a classy guy and teammate!
I’ll check back with you guys-and if Owens can go 5 or 6 weeks without attracting a bunch of attention, shut up and play football, I’ll be here to say maybe he’s finally growing up……
RAF, I’ll answer your two points1) The experts shouldn’t be quoted in a way that generalizes behavior to everyone, esp. in psychology. To say someone culdn’t possibly do this or that if they are in a certain mental state is overstating the case-maybe “usually” would be a good word. Every time we read around here about some teenager who kills themselves, it’s usually (almost said always) a case where evryone comments on how successful and happy they seemed. Again, I want to make it clear that I have personal experience with some of these issues and am not joking about suicide.
2, you’ve never heard of a coverup for the rich and famous? Scenario-Jerry Jones making phone calls, promising to have a team of guys around watching TO, this could be the worst thing for him, we’re his last chance, let us work with him, blah blah blah-you can’t picture that as a possibility? I know this isn’t the old days of Chappaquidic (whatever) with the media but we know stuff still goes on. Jerry Jones can say a lot more than “Please”!
Yeah Larry, just like when Jerry got Michael Irvin off the hook for all that coke he snorted. Gimme a break.
I’m formerly ‘mlf’, and will, from this point until who knows when, be known as CowboyMan. Here’s the story. When my nephew was very little he was a load. He would not, go to bed on time, eat without a two or three hour battle, or, dress himself before school. He did however want to please the grownups but didn’t seem to have an incentive to do so. One day I was thinking and came up with this idea. I talked with him man to man and said, if you do three things every day right (that is, according to what I think is right) I will call you The CowboyMan (He liked the Star I think). If you get even one of the three things wrong, I will call you, Dirt-Boy. The three things were, go to bed on time, eat breakfast/lunch/dinner without all the drama, and dress yourself for school.
It worked like a charm. Every day he would ask me who he was today and if I didn’t say, YOOOOOOURRRE THEE CowboyMannnnnn (which I would yell out), he would be devastated, and, he would go right to work to get all three things right the next time. All was well when I called him, THEE CowboyMannnnnn. Which, thank goodness, I did often. Try it before you’re kids get to old to listen.
So, now I have no young nephew to call CowboyMan so I’ll take it for myself. By the way, I eat plenty without drama, dress myself, and go to bed when I feel like it.
Larry, No suicide attempt and no JJ coverup or pulling strings at the cop house. Also, Oswald acted alone.
ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
CowboyMan, very good point made in post #102. I have a nephew also, and you don’t realize how much influence you have on that little man until you try. Everyine tells me how much he worships the ground that I walk on, so I us that to make him a better person.
Life is way too short, let’s not dwell on the negative, and root for TO when he gets back on the field. I’m not PC, God, Guns, and Rock and Roll, but let the chips fall where they may. Those in glass houses……
reldbr: post 56. TASTELESS!
MUSICCITYNORM,
The report came from the police. Why should they doubt it?
The way I see this is that a preliminary report was issued based on … whatever. Someone in the police department thought that this was something that the media would REALLY be interested in, and leaked it. The media ran with what they were given.
So far, I have no problem with the media.
However, as soon as the police held their news conference and refused to confirm the report, the media should have started suspecting something was amiss and begun to dig further, instead of continuing with their mindless Owens supposition, speculation, and analysis.
Then, when Owens was released from the hospital, all kinds of alarm bells should have gone off. But, nooooooooooooooooooo!
larry,
So, if a medical team induces vomiting [which has been denied, by the way], then the proper procedure is to dismiss the suicide patient within hours so he can go play catch?
Have you been instructed on the proper use of your brain? Hospitals don’t invite lawsuits (not to mention criminal charges) by discharging suspected suicide victims within 24 hours. There is no such thing as an ‘own recognizance’ release in this type of situation.
Whether or not Owens needs psychiatric help is an issue that neither you nor I can properly evaluate from behind our computer desks. And if he does, it is certainly not a proper excuse to cut a player.
And, if you insist on playing that mindless ‘conspiracy’ card, you probably need a lot more help than Owens does.
Why is it that everything that happens must be a conspiracy and cover-up. I’ll tell you my theory. Watergate. Some people relate their entire existence to Watergate. They too will find the missing minutes, the footprints and spent cartridges on the grassy knoll, a USN missile fragment embedded in a US airliners scattered remains, or, in this case, proof of Owens tearfully admitting he attempted to take his own life
(Why? Because he was afraid of the Titans DBs), and, that JJ called the DPD and squashed the report. How? By giving the Top-Cops, and a couple of goodlookin cop gals no doubt, season tickets for all Cowboys, Desperados, Rangers, and Mavericks games. All that proof just laying there waiting for some Watergate wannabe to discover it. It must be frustrating for them. Well, they always have supposition, innuendo and the occasional, ‘give me a break’, to work with. Just read this blog.
Bushpilot, Thanks my friend and all my best ot you and your nephew.
Mr. Bill,
Agreed, there is nothing with the early actions of the press that can be faulted. They got a police statement that said suicide and trusted it.
I’ve also been told by people who have worked with cases that the initial report should not be questioned. It was the initial writings of the responding officers and has their preliminary findings. It was never something intended for public distribution.
But it was distributed. And that’s the whole point of the DPD press conference, as we’ve all discussed.
I feel for the Titans. It appears there is at least one team in the NFL with a more questionable OL than ours.
CowboyMan,
I’m not sure if you are saying ‘Tasteless!’ to agree with reldbr or not?
If it’s not, I just gotta say I think tasteless was the point, reldbr was parodying how tastless the media is.
I actually thought the ‘ESPN anvil’ an obvious dig at how cartoon stupid the media is and the TO’s words being taken out of context part pretty damn funny!
If that is what you meant well whoops just ignore this…
Last night on ESPN’s Steve A. Smith’s show:
(I was flipping through the channels and saw Hugh Douglas, and wanted to see what he had to say)
Douglas and the other guest were ripping T.O.’s mental health. Both stated things like this is a guy in dire need of help. For about 10-15 minutes they made comments that would suggest Owens should not be playing football, but committed to hospital. Then when asked, point blank, “Do you think he tried to kill himself?” Both guest answered “NO” …. Tell me, if the guy had an accidental overdose, then why does his mental health become a topic of discussion????? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
I THINK STEVEN A PURPOSELY LOOKED FOR SOME GUESTS THAT WOULD BE DUMB ENOUGH TO SAY THAT, STEVEN A WAS THE ONLY ONE I SAW ON TV WILLING TO KEEP SAYING NO IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE I DONT CARE IF HE WAS PLAYING CATCH OR REALEASED HE HAS PROBLEMS HE NEEDS FRIENDS HE IS A MAN IN NEED, WHATEVER, I COULD NOT STOMACH ALL OF HIS ILLOGICAL REASONING LONG CAUSE THEY BEGAN SHOWING THIS NBA ANALYST I MEAN SPORTS ANALYST EXPERT OPINION ON SOMETHING HE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, TO SHOULD GO ON HIS SHOW AND RING HIS NECK!
Cowboy Man,
Thanks for reading my stuff, man. It means alot to me. And I agree. The anvil should have had ‘Media’ on it, not just ESPN. Do you taste it now?
By the way,
from the look of Kim Etheridge hair, her hair product ‘mixed chicks’ is going to be on store shelves a looooooooooong time.
Listen I will be the first to say Terrell Owens has said some things without regard for other people’s feelings. He is like a boyfriend who tells his girlfriend she looks fat, when she dresed up for him. Insensitive to others? Yes! Absolutely!
Nothing in his past signifies that he is the type to fake an injury. There is nothing in his past to show he is “mentally ill”, unless you suggest he has problems, which we all have. Nada! Zero! Zilch that suggests the guy is so unhappy, he is thinking of ending it all.
Lastly, while Owens has made mistakes in the past, he has come here and been apologetic for his errors. Any young person that admitts to making wrong choices is taking steps to becoming a man. Since he has been in Dallas 95% of what he has said has been thought out and considerate of the Dallas Cowboys and his teammates. Again when someone is consciously attempting to correct previous mistakes .. that person is growing up. Owens is a firey guy, so I expect a blow up or two. I think the next biggest test for him will be when he gets extremely upset at a friend or a teammate and explodes. In his past he has continued separation from them once a problem occurred. He is going to have to extend himself, and create a mutual recourse to overcome whatever has come in the way of continuing the relationship. .. If from anything I have seen, Owens is a guy that is extremely sensitive. His human side is to become extremely hurt when a person he trusts does something to cause him pain. I have always said that Donavan McNabb’s pre-Super Bowl comment, “We can win without T.O.”, really damaged that relationship. Owens went to Philly to play with McNabb, they joked, they had fun, and from T.O.’s point of view, McNabb left him out to dry. And I don’t disagree with Owens. .. Owens was never going to mend that bridge with McNabb. In my opinion, Owens would be better suited for life, if he understood that everyone’s #1 is themself, and some times other people error in protecting their selfish desires. Its is the people who comprimise for others, who truely become the greatest. A father who comprimises his desires for the benifit of his children. A teammate who comprimises individual goals for the sake of his team winning. .. One lesson still to learn before he gets his man shoes, but I think Owenns is walking in the right direction.
After looking at this thread it is my conclusion that some of the posters here are in much more need of mental counseling then TO does.
Luke
First to admit I bit like a hungry fish. Thanks for not taking me too much to task.A lot of folks bit on this as well. He’s just a natural for a hungry fish.
