Early Line on Tennessee — Blitz City
Posted: September 28, 2006 @ 1:38 am
Last week Dallas ripped the undermanned Redskins secondary. This weekend it faces another vulnerable unit. Tennessee’s interior offensive line is depleted at the moment. Starting guards Benji Olson and Zach Piller sat out today’s practice, as did top backup Eugene Amano. The Titans have had to move their starting RT inside to RG and are planning on using backups at LG and RT if the starters can’t play. Coach Jeff Fisher says Olson and Piller will be game time decisions.
Tennessee already has a weak running game and is starting the immobile Kerry Collins at QB. Do you smell heavy pressure this Sunday?

Boy, I hope so! If we can’t put pressure on this offense, we are in a lot more trouble than we think.
I feel for the Titans. It appears there is at least one team in the NFL with a more questionable OL than ours. My only fear is Dallas’s history of not showing up for games with injured foes.
The Titans seem to have created their own problems, and the whole episode of locking McNair out of the training facilites during summer seemed bizarre, as did the trade of Billy Volek. They’re a screwy team, and I’d like to see Jeff Fisher held by his nose, and kicked in his butt, at midfield, after the game.
Does anyone else think Marques Colston already looks like a better receiver than Terrell Owens?
We should drafted him in round 6, instead of Stanley.
I wanna see sacks and lots of em!
mccourt,
Colston looks good, and should get even better but whoa, your being sarcastic right?
Everyone is talking about when VY will take over the starting QB duties.
I think Fisher wants to wait as long as possible, personally. I predict that VY will become the starting QB sooner than Fisher would like due to the Titan’s O-line getting Collins killed.
Luke:
I like Colston for his play and his attitude. If we’d drafted him, instead of Stanley, Colston might have become T.O.’s role model.
Remember how quiet T.O. was as a rookie 49er? Colston reminds me of that now.
Regarding the Titans, I really don’t like them, especially after their recent problems with players.
I predict that it will take VY at least another 2 years to make an impact in this league. He didn’t start to become a dual threat passer at Texas until about halfway through his sophomore season (redshirt type) and even that was when they simplified the game plan to fit in with his strengths. Jeff Fisher should just stick with Kerry Collins for at least the rest of this season and give VY spot duty here and there.
d ware,5 sacks,mark it down
Why does everyone (Cowboyman) think our OL is so bad, what else could we posibly ask them to do? There are not too many questions remaining with the Cowboys, time to just do it.
I’ve been under the impression our O-line has done a good job.
rha,
that time has definitely come.
this is a game they should win, so go out there and win it. nothing else matters.
RHA:
The reasons everyone views our line as bad is based on last year and the sack total.
Personally, i think our line is adequate but could be better. If we stay healthy and build cohesion,(plus Flo gets back in the groove totally)we could be a good line. Columbo is the key. If he gets to where he doesn’t need much help, our offense will roll.
Everyone wonders what is happening to Washington’s O? Other than Brunell, its Chris Cooley. He is pulling a 2005 jason whitten and has to stay in and block b/c the OTs aren’t playing well.
However, without a doubt, the OL is the weakest aspect of our team.
good morning all-
so this is what the day after feels like,
Raf- I own my own construction company and I can tell you there is a high level of accountability in my business. Media should not be given a pass on liability or accountability. If forced to treat their jobs like a business I guarantee you that story gets looked at before it gets reported. There is a person in my company who’s job it is to verify. The bigger the job the bigger the liability, the bigger the media outlet the bigger the accountability. You say you see no problem with media running with a story that “leaked” on official but not official DPD paper. Let me tell you my livelihood depends on my reputation, If I was going to start a project (a large one at that) you had better believe I’m going to dot every “i”. I’m looking at every document and VARIFYING everything I can because if I don’t I go broke and look like a fool doing it.
My point is ESPN is as big a news outlet as your going to find and should report with some responsibility. Not verifying a “leak” would destroy me, why does ESPN get a bye.
By the way I own a plumbing company so “leak” is kindof a dirty word for me.
Fisher has threatened his players this week saying he will be replacing the starters if they dont play well and will bench them in favor of backups- Prelude to Vince?
As a Texas fan, I am a HUGE fan of Vince Young…However…I am an even HUGER cowboys fan…I want to see Vince Young on his back ALL DAY.
Remember that Roy Williams blitz up the middle vs. the Cardinals last year? I expect to see a lot of that.
Norm, which is it…construction or plumbing? By the way…spell check…verifying…hehehe.
i would love to see the score ran up on them if possible. i would like to see huge stats on the offense and the defense.
Norm,
The first letter in ESPN is “Entertainment.” I think they take that seriously, though it might infuriate a lot of us. Their headlines, especially after the PD press conference were intended to hype the story. But then, that’s what they do with everything — maximum hype.
There are other options. If if really bothers you, set your browser to another sports news site. At some point, it’s in the readers interest to tune the hype out.
Raf- yes your right, and no I cant turn away. They have me hooked so I guess what they are doing works.
bushpilot- I own a state plumbing contractor company, I shouldn’t have to explain why I cant spell that should be reason enough.
I own a state plumbing contractor company, I shouldn’t have to explain why I cant spell that should be reason enough.
Norm -
I am aware of Cheers, watched most every episode, but I really don’t get the Norm thing. I guess I did pay close enough attention?
Yesterday was fun . . . after it was serious. Its always fun giving ‘the media’ its comeuppance.
And TO? Well, hopefully he’ll come back and play for us one day, but if he doesn’t, I’m not sure it would matter much. I mean, how important is football to a man whose publicist is able to attract every news channel on the planet to his bedside at a moments notice? Now, if he could just harness that power for good . . or at least a few TD grabs.
There are many lessons to be learned from yesterday, but I can’t help but be haunted by one lingering question . . . . . . . . . .
ARE WE READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!
TO is practicing today
im at the ranch rite now and t.o. is practicing today and looks pretty good
pacman Jones talking about TO “HE ain’t playing no way not after all this”, then asked if he knew TO “NO; he ain’t my kind of cat”
I think he is willing TO not to play.
swirvin- I hope he plays this week.
I got box seats to the game, will be my 2nd NFL game ever.
Titans are really bad off on the line, If they go without 3 of 4 guards they are in real trouble. Their strength was the interior line which I’ve posted before.
Way to go Pacman. Between comments like that and yesterday’s fiasco I expect TO to come out and play his butt off on Sunday to put all the doubters in their place.
Rumor has it TO is catching everything thrown his way today in practice. That’s more than he has done so far this year!
IS IT NOON ON SUNDAY YET??????????
YEAAAAAA!!!! GET FIRED UP !!!!! 72 HOURS TILL KICK OFF WOAAAAAA YEA
Raf is right. You direct the programming of every single media outlet. Yesterday you confirmed to all of them you can’t get enough TO, especially when it’s negative.
Funny thing (not funny ha ha) about all of this is the loudmouths playing the ‘i told you so’ game about TO being a distraction. I fail to understand how his injured hamstring, his broken hand, and his overdose/allergic reaction are in ANY way a plea for attention or an attempt at breaking up the team. It’s only due to the media’s unrelenting hype that he seems like a distraction to those on the outside looking in.
Now, he may very well be an insufferable ass in the locker room, and it concerns me that he and Parcells aren’t pals, but I’ve seen NOTHING that would suggest he is being anything other than a hard working WR.
I don’t even think he’s an insufferable ass in the locker room joey2zs, as a number of Cowboys have spoke fondly of him already and they certainly did not sound like they were just doing it to be politically correct.
Remember, almost 1/2 that Philly locker room was behind him during that fiasco.
It’s going to take Big Bill a while to warm up to someone like TO.
Hey, you local boys, who the hell is Randy Galloway?
He’s on Dan Patrick’s show calling Parcells a liar.
He also said, “with parcells, well, I can take him or leave him.” Take him or leave him? WTF? He’s the COACH, buddy. You’re a friggin local sportswriter. The only germane point here, pal, is he can
TAKE OR LEAVE YOU.
He’s blaming TO for having the cops come to his house when they could be dealing with the more seriously mentally ill.
When asked if he thought it was a stunt, he said, “I don’t care.”
“I have no sympathy for a guy like owens. I knew what their spin would be. It’s hard for me to believe it was not a suicide attempt. I guess it’s possible that what TO said is true, but I don’t care.”
The guy is an intolerable A Hole of the first order.
Joey2zs,
It’s funny how Cowboys’ fans use T.O. I’ve never had more traffic on this site than when he signed. It was off the charts. The hammy watch and yesterday pushed me up too. For all the grousing at him and the media coverage, you’re exactly right. Fans can’t get enough of the guy. Which only means the circus will continue, as distasteful as it is.
Regarding his relationship with Parcells. I’ve heard from friends who work in Dallas sports media that the host of T.O.’s radio show, who has worked with him the past few years, says this is the happiest he’s seen Terrell in a long time.
And yesterday, I saw Chris Mortensen say his relationship with Parcells has been good so far. I have it on good authority that Mortensen is the closest thing to a Parcells mouthpiece; that the coach trusts him and gives him insights he denies the Metroplex folks, which may explain the hostility they show him.
In short, if Mortensen says they’re getting along, it’s probably true. After yesterday, things might be a little less friendly.
On the other hand, Parcells respects guys who show him toughness. Witten earned his spurs straight away when he came back from his broken jaw so fast. If T.O. plays Sunday and contributes, he’ll move up in Parcells’ esteem.
I think it all comes down to how the team reacts, and they’ve supported him strongly, and how much Terrell plays. Because ultimately, playing makes him happy.
You only have to see a picture of this guy to realize he is an idiot
http://www.dfw.com/mld/startelegram/sports/columnists/randy_galloway/15628387.htm
When your talent is a bit low and all you have is mudslinging….well there is always Jerry Springer
Joey2zs,
I’m not a local boy, but I know who Galloway is. Now that Skip Bayless is gone from the Metroplex, Galloway is officially the biggest Hater of them all. He, unlike TO, IS an insufferable ass! He’s best left ignored.
Joey-
I don’t care because it is Joey Galloway.
ESPN was playing funeral music and talking about TO the human being. We watch it because it is Jerry Springer in sports. ESPN should change their slogan to the sports tabloid. Next weeks edition has aliens are playing for Houston, wait; that might be true. hmmm?
jeff fisher gets alot of love on this site, most of it deserved, but he did draft pacman jones….for what its worth.
RHA,
on that show you watched every episode of, what did everyone in the bar do when norm walked in?
joey,
galloway is a hater, pure and simple.
swirvin- honest I did not know you were going to make the Jerry Springer comparison.
Great minds think alike.
Norm!!!!
Norm!,
too funny. I guess if we both feel that way- it must be true! At least that is how an ESPN reporter would think!
Who wants to talk about Soccer?
OT
jarhead- I’m still scratching my head over pac-man, The guy has descent talent and no character. He is just plain dumb, makes stupid mistakes every single game but man can he run–kinof like a black Forest Gump.
Floyd Reese picks the players for the Titans I believe, Its his head most people wont on a pike around here.
2zs,
Galloway is living proof of the maxim John Huston’s character Hollis Mulwray said in movie “Chinatown,” “old buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough.”
Out of respect to whores, who actually work for their money, I’ll add curmudgeonly sportswriters like Galloway to the list.
He’s a lifer down there, having worked for one of the Dallas papers since the early ’70s. His show of late is being the contrarian. He picks fights with a star and doesn’t let up. It gets him national play because outsiders love to see locals bash the Cowboys. It validates their hate.
When I lived in Wisconsin my Packers buddies would wave his regular screeds against Barry Switzer at me. He especially hated Deion, who he called “nine toes” after his surgery.
He’s been on Parcells pretty consistently too and is part of the Kill-Bill chorus that includes Dale Hansen and the Star-Telegram’s Jim Reeves.
I find it rich that he mocks Owens situation and says “cops could be dealing with the more seriously mentally ill.” For starters cops shouldn’t be treating mentally ill people. Mental health workers should. But it ignores what may be the most pathetic sports column I have ever seen.
When Dallas signed Alonzo Spellman, Galloway wrote a column that used every mocking cliche about insanity you could imagine. He managed to both make fun of the mentally ill and kick Spellman while he was down, all to take a cheap shot at Jerry Jones for signing him.
Galloway is the definition of a surly, bitter, has-been. He should be thankful T.O. gives him a chance to wipe “Deion” from his one-note template, insert “Owens” and get a few more days on the air for it.
the media now asks, “who’s to blame” for all this TO circus.
They’ll promise us that they’re going to get to the bottom of it. they’ll ask all the right questions of the police, the EMTs, BP, the cowboys, TO, his publicist, every “expert” in the country will get to speak.
they’ll never ask themselves what they could have done better.
TO is practicing and apparently catching balls. I still say, hold him out and lets see what a young WR can do.
Unless “soccer” is what the Europeans are calling NFL Football now- no one.
Raf,
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful!
Side note - Where did you live in WI?
mikhu,
Madison
I kind of find it funny that Ms. Pac-man can make a statement saying that TO is not his kind of cat. Between all of his arrests and problems at the beginning of the season. Seems to me this is the kettle calling the stove black.
Maybe by “not his kind of cat” he means a WR who can make him look like a lousy CB any time they want.
Raf,
Cool, we’re headed there next Saturday to watch the Badgers stomp Northwestern! It’s an 11:00 game so I’m going to be foolish enough to try and get in to The Great Dane after the game.
Sorry everyone for the OT stuff…
NORM- I own a state plumbing contractor company, I shouldn’t have to explain why I cant spell that should be reason enough.
Good one Norm
Hello all -
Great piece on Galloway by Raf. One question - I seem to recall that Randy Galloway used to be the radio voice of the Dallas Cowboys but was fired. That could explain the reason why he’s added grumpy and hateful to a personality that is already bland, unamusing, and entirely predictable.
As for Dale Hanson; ugh. The only person in show business I can’t stand more than him is Clay Aiken. Okay, well Kenny G is right up there too. And Roseanne.
One final thought that came to mind amidst all this talk about Hanson and Galloway. My grandfather, crusty old steel mill foreman that he is, used to drop a pearl of wisdom on me whenever I thought one of my opinions was worth voicing: “Son, opinions are like a**holes. Everyone has one and nobody really needs to hear yours.”
Perhaps Randy and Dale should meet my Grandfather.
i would like to put my 2 cents in if thats ok?
1) its funny how people around the league are saying i told u so when were only 2 games into the season..i mean comeon ..we;ll be the one;s that’ll say i told u so in the superbowl
2) Raf what does E.S.P.N stand for?
3) the only thing iam worried about w/Owens is that he hasnt had enough time to gel with DB cuse if i see another over thrown pass iam going to scream
musiccitynorm
where do you own a plumbing company at? i as well own a plumbing company in iowa.
mike and norm-
have u guys ever heard of Barnett Brass?? thats where i work ..iam a rep for them
Hey mikes and norm, perhaps you should exchange phone numbers or something. let’s get back to sports.
mikeridge78
ESPN-Entertainment and Sports Programming Network
my bad, got caught in the moment,
anywayhow effective do u guys think TO will be?? as i said in a previous post T.O should play but only in a limited role shouldnt get no more than 15-20 snaps this game
Bush-
thanks
you got it Mike!
I think TO plays, and plays well. He wants to prove all the naysayers wrong in their assumptions. Like Raf said, if the guy was really suicidal, he wouldn’t have been released from the hospital and on the practice field the same afternoon.
Mike & NORM!!!,
In your professional opinion, do you think Mr Initials has a plumbing problem?
Is it not true that nearly everyone that has had any health issues at one time or another has also had a plumbing problem?
Can plumbing problems, which do arise unexpectedly, cause depression in people?
If you guys play your cards right you can be in line to be the next expert commentators on any of the talking head shows today.
I see a HUGE game from TO.
Reading all about TO the last day or so made me really feel for the guy actually. He’s overcome a lot and he just seems to have maturity issues; he can be a swell guy most of the time, but sometimes he’s just a jerk. Those people tend to be less jerks as they grow up (unlike Galloway).
Anywhoo, I see a huge game from TO coming up. If this weren’t the No Fun League, I would expect to see some kind of imaginitive TD dance involving a mock suicide…
p.s. I’m glad TG didn’t castrate himself by accident too. Phew, we almost lost 2 receivers in one week!
This is a classic “trap game” as Parcells likes to say.
Losing to the Titans would be devastating. A win this week doesn’t make the season at all but a loss could very well break it.
jagged,
from your post up top, i couldnt see it all but it looks like you’re saying TO should fire the publicist.
There is a chance that she saved his life on tuesday night. should he fire her for that?
Dallas 21
Tennessee 6
I havnt written in awhile due to being busy but I have to laugh at the police reaction.
Those idiotic overpaid uneducated power hungry animals want to put down TO and say they are 10 times better than this fancy football man”. All police everywhere are jokes. They are worse than each and every man they put away. They create more damage than they are worth. They are all narcissistic self serving criminally minded power hungry idiots who hide behind a badge. GO TO!!!!
Down with the police.
Dallas 34
Tenn 6
im gonna go out on a limb and say all cylinders will be runnin hard on sunday.
cowboys 31
titans 7
former coach walsh states he recommend T.O. getting psych help
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15046897
AND FOR THE RECORD I THINK T.O. WAS BOINKING HIS PUBLICIST.
donny-
your right about the police:
They see me roll-ing they ha-ting ya know that they wanna catch me riding dirty!
I admit I was a huge opponent of TO coming here. But he has changed my mind. He is fun to watch, fun to follow, seems very likable in interviews and is smart. My bet is he is very well liked by this team.
BTW, did anyone notice the comments from the ex-special teams coach at SF? He said TO, even then, befriended the lowest level personnel and especially unheralded rookies.
Sounds familiarly like the help he gave Hurd? TO actually might be a decent human being.
Another thing, as much as we claim to be disgusted by the media, we (at least I) must admit to liking the pictures they paint when they make us feel good. Like many, I hated TO not because I had enough information to really know, but because the Randy Galloway’s of the world chose to turn honest reporting into entertainment. In the process, they persuaded me to their view. My bad.
Tipp-
of course i think he just did it b4 the press confrence ..did u see how messed up her hair was
Donny, you need help dude.
Donny,
Got to call you on that one. I know a FEW like that, but to generalize that way is not right.
Donny,
No,
The police are 10x better at eating donuts.
Gosh Dammit give them some credit.
The majority of cops I’ve come in contact with are jerks. If they are there to help you, they want to be treated as heros. If for some reason you are in trouble no matter how minor the offense they treat you like crap.
And to think we get to pay for the service as well. They have too much leeway to interfere in our every day lives. They need to act like the servants that they are. Humility would be nice to see once in a while when you interact with an officer.
All Cowboys players and Cowboys fans should consider themselves lucky that TO is not pacman’s “type of cat”.
His “type of cat” is a blunt smoking, hennessy drinking, celebrate a TD despite it being called back by a penalty clown. Just like Pacman.
Good pick Mullet Fisher. I think that guy is trying to get fired
the police report was likely filed in good faith and based on statements made by a witness at the time.
what is screwed up is that it got LEAKED to the media apparently before it was verified (likely because it had TO’s name on it).
the publicist didnt do TO any favors when she spoke (notice he got right up after her and THANKED the police, among others). having said that, she has a point in that the police shouldnt have leaked it, they are responsible for that.
the officer who stated they are all better than TO should keep his mouth shut too.
donny, you cant generalize the department like that. there are plenty of cops who do great work and wouldnt have dreamed of leaking that report. I dont see how they can demand an apology though, which is what now is being reported.
oh yeah….
Cowboys 42-6 with #81 catching 3 TDs and having some good celebration.
http://www.firecoachfisher.com
I used to like him but it seems he has kinda lost it the past few years. It may be the GMs fault though.
Either way, they treat their players like garbage and they suck.
Keith Bullock is probably the only player they have that would even see the field for Dallas.
Rodney King! Rodney King!
Come on guys- back to football
My brother in law is a police officer, and I have met a bunch of his friends. In my experience, they had/have no control in their personal lives, so they turn to the badge. There are good cops, but the majority that I have met get off on the power, because they have no “control”, when they’re off the clock.
He didn’t have enough balls to have my sister take his last name, even hyphenated!! Another sheeple man letting a chick run his life…pathetic. Alaska, where men are men, and women are just happy to have them!!
rha, no, I didn’t really mean that out OL is bad. I was referring to ‘others’ questioning the quality adn effectiveness of our OL. I actually am quite happy with them right now. I should have made that clear.
Football, oh yeah
Cowboys 30
Titans 10
Gotta disagree with you too Donny. I know a number of good cops. Kinda reminds me of the Packer fans around here who said all of the Cowboys were on drugs in the 90’s just because Michael and Nate had issues.
Just watched the Parcells presser, you wonder if some of these mediots are smoking crack before the press conference with some of the questions that they throw out there.
I hate when people claim that not ALL cops are bad. They are ALL bad.
Here is my point. Some are downright criminals, others abuse their powers, and the rest white wash the situation and cover up…that makes them all a pile of dog crap.
How in the world, do they come out and say they are 10X better than TO. They are bloated wanna be’s. They are the junk trash of the world. ALL cops are SOB’s
Back to football. I think Dallas will beat up on lowly Tennessee and while I dont want the players to look ahead, I will. I think the Philly game is our biggest game in the first half of the season. I think it is more likely that Philly is near the top of the standings than NYG or Washington. They have an amazingly easy schedule compared to the rest of the NFC.
We NEED to beat Philly to gain control of the division and to prevent the media circus which will come if we do not due to the situation with TO. I am a Vince Young fan and I’d like to see him in the game on his backside. I think VY will give the Cowboys some practice at defending a QB who can do something with his feet. VY will provid practice for next week’s match with McNabb.
I feel good about one thing after all of the nonsense concerning T.O:
the guy is a gamer. If this were some average receiver he would be sent packing.
Mike Ridge post 68
That was funny as hell.
Donny, tell us how you feel….hehehe.
yeah…mike the publicist hair was totalled….owens is doing her. im sure he is…hell i would too
fellas,
knock off the smack talking. its the NFL, anything can happen.
Im happy if the boys get a win by 1 point or 40 and if they come out with no injuries.
DonnieP, what prison are you in? I’ll send you some smokes.
Ah gentlemen, sociology creeps back into the discussions. I think you’ll give me wonderful grist for future conference papers and a book.
And you think I’m joking!
To detour into T.O. for a moment. I think the PD is embarrassed but in the he-said/she-said game, T.O.’s publicist is the real loser/offender here.
She takes a situation where her client is embarrassed by a leaked statement and angers the cops and gives them cause to present themselves as the innocent victims.
As I said in an earlier thread, I’ve been told by lawyer friends and peopele I know in law enforcement tha that there was nothing wrong with the statement. It is a typical early draft, which contains the initial observations of the officers, who are not pro writers.
The mistake was that this statement, which was never meant for public consumption, was leaked…
Back to Ms. Etheridge. She bungles the P.R. with the cops to cover her own ass, LEAVING IT FOR HER CLIENT to have to step forward and mend fences with his thank you to the police.
And let’s not forget she started the whole mess by panicking and calling the ambo in the first place.
She’s paid to provide publicity for her guy and gave him 24 hours of the worst publicity anybody can imagine, then compounds the problem to make HERSELF look good.
If T.O. has a grain of sense, he would quietly fire her as soon as this mess dies down. She doesn’t even rise to the level of incompetent.
Good one CowboyMan
Bushpilot, I watched the presser too. I liked the question from a female that insinuated Parcells put pressure on Owens to take more pills than he should. That, to get ready quicker for the Titans. God bless her devious mind. How would you like to sit next to that whack job at work everyday.
Yeah, that was the most off the wall question. Her line of thinking that because Parcells said he could play on Sunday, would make TO try and devour more pills to please him by making the start. Absolutely ridiculous!!
I’m glad I don’t have to work in a cubicle environment, or an office building, I think I’d go banana’s with some kooks.
I think he will play against the Titans, and will have a really good game. That’ll put things to bed, until Monday morning when the hype for Philly will begin. The circus rolls on.
rafael,
yeah but im guessing that she is hot when she gets a little dolled up.
Raf, sociology is wonderful, isn’t it? Time for my psyche evaluation…tick, tick…
put me down for agreeing that all cops are douches
I just hope we can put the Titans away early and give our starters soem bench time. I’d like to get a look at Rector and Hurd on O. On D, I’d like to see Carpenter, Ratliff, and Hatcher all in there together.
I have no problem with the police report or the fact that it was made public. In reality they have little control on what we get to see based on the Freedom of Public Information Act. If the media wants to make themselves look even more petty than they already do, then go for it, it’s bad business on their part if you ask me.
To make a big deal out of all of this from an initial report, based on what a guy says in a lethargic state is foolish. As I said when this first broke and we were talking about it, I said if you asked the guy if he liked the smell of poop it was 50/50 if he would say yes, given the condition they said he was in.
cowboyman,
im happy if we just get the W and not hurt. Id like to see those guys too but i dont think it happens unless we are up by 3 scores at a minimum.
the titans got 5 or so sacks against the fish last week and some reports ive read say the titans should have won had they not had a couple of killer TOs.
they are blitzing alot and they have a QB who has traditionally done well against us.
Nothing comes easy in the NFL. Games where you cruise to easy victories are flukes.
Dont expect us to cruise to the easy W sunday. I really hope Im wrong but…..
jarhead,
Earlier I would have agreed with you. These guys get paid to. We won some games when we didn’t have much talent.
Something happened this week (Tues night I think it was) that makes me thank it will be one or the other.
Either we come together stronger and kick some butt, or we come out weary and end up in a nail biter to the end.
Right Raf, she could have easily cleared things up yesterday by saying, “I was in a state of shock and really don’t recall what I said to the officers.” This would have been understandable.
Another issue here is the media’s exploitation of Owens. When the facts were cloudy as to whether or not Owens attempted to commit suicide, the media should have let the facts unravel before they agressively suggested that he had past psycological problems which may have led to his “suicidal thoughts”. (Way to serious of a situation to use assumptions and speculation and pass it on as fact.) Once it was pretty clear he had an accidental OD, questions about his mental health should have been put to rest.
Of course, then there is the leak.
little diversion but if you want some déjàvu, here in Kansas City I think they will experience the horror and instability of bad tackle play like we did last year. KC has Turley (been out for years with bad back) is small, and now, suprise, has back problems that will diminish further his ability. The KC fans are really looking through homer glasses. At 0-2, I have warned all that having poor tackle play will destabalize the entire team like a house of cards.
So glad we have upgraded mightily in that position.
Cash,
Funny how his state when questioned is never mentioned, but I’ve been quoting your line for the past two days because it was on target.
The sad fact, as was pointed out to me yesterday, is that the 911 tape will come out soon, as will the medical report. And when they show he didn’t take 35 pills, his account will be validated.
That’s why I’m hammering his publicist. What did T.O. do wrong here? He was rehabbing. He had a therapist there before he went out to work on his hand. He was taking his pain pills and his normal workout pills.
He zonks out, wakes up to paramedics, gets whisked to a hospital and is asked questions while he’s groggy.
He answers “yes” when asked if he meant to harm himself.
No hanging offenses there. Oh, I forgot, he did hire the publicist. That’s proving to be a real doozy.
It’s the publicist who calls the ambo, who tells the police that he took all the pills that she thinks he was depressed. I still can’t get my mind around it. She’s a P-U-B-L-I-C-I-S-T. This will become a test case on how to screw up every phase of a job.
So, when this turns out to be embarassing, she refutes her own account, which will be borne out either for her or against her by the 911 tape and gets the cops angry at T.O. by imtimating their report was made up. I trust the questions and answer in it.
She better be the best lay in civilization or working for free, cause she’s of no value to T.O.
Personally, I’d like to see TO catch 3TD, 9 REC for 180yds and the Cowboys win by more than 28.
I’ve seen to many Cowboy games where we play down with the inferior competition and I do NOT want to see it this year. I also want to see the Headlines about the “Suicidal Man who climbs the NFL’s tallest peak to become more important than God himself” THe media creates and tears down then creates and tears down in a long cycle. Its rather funny actually. I wonder if polled how many people appreciate the media for this or think it is absurd.
CowboyMan-
Send smokes if you want, but money is better. Please send to my home address. I’ll sign for them there. I can always jump out of the new jacuzzi if I need to.
LOL
I’m a senior in high school.
I scored pretty well in my SAT.
And i’ll be majoring in Journalism next year at Texas Tech University.
But what the HELL is a publicist?
I am very confident about this season especially after three weeks of getting to see other teams. we should be able to beat the eagles due to motivation if anything,(and we have a better team) the giants look like a team with overrated talent going down the toilet and the redskins, well we played pretty sloppy and still dominated.
outside of the division carolina has not looked too good and dont tell me steve smith will make all the difference in the world they struggled with him to beat the 0-2 bucs, plus look what he did against us last year. atlanta, well maybe they had a bad game against the saints but i dont see their offense being efficient against our D. the colts are probably the best suited to beat us but if our d continues to gel and get better we would be very formidable.
i think we can have a great year and have home field IF we dont get lax and the offense can play to its potential. SUPERBOWL BABY, GO COWBOYS!
the joker16,
As somebody who’s taught in communications programs for a while, let me give you a friendly piece of advice:
*minor* in jouralism.
Major in english — you’ll be a much more skillful writer;
or major in history, economics, political science or some similar field. You’ll understand the world and the people you’ll cover in it much better.
And when you seek your journalism job, you’ll be much better qualified than the journalism majors you’re competing against. And when you get that job, you’ll serve the rest of us that much better.
Oh, yeah, a publicist is a personal P.R. agent. And don’t get me started on P.R. programs….
This is the Raider game from last year, this time we win well though because we’re a much better team 31 – 10.
And I love it when the blog delves into social issues hahaha.
Gotta say I’m not too impressed with the cops either. As Cash stated there is a pervasive arrogance that seems to infect almost the entire organization and they have too much power to interfere in the everyday lives of normal citizens and they seem to enjoy using and abusing it. Donny I think you made a very sound point about police corruption, there’s ones who do it and then there’s ones who ignore it or cover for there ‘buddy’s’ actions. That doesn’t leave a lot to be hopeful about.
Rafael,
Thanks for the advice bro.
I’ll talk to my counselor about it and I’m sure she’ll say the same thing.
But I’m telling you man I hate English.
I have this AP teacher; I should say professor, who is pretty much a nazi genius.
…So I guess majoring in English won’t be too hard compared to that.
For the joker_16: From Wikipedia–
A publicist is a person whose job is to generate and manage publicity for a public figure, especially a celebrity, or for a work such as a book or movie. Publicists usually work at large companies handling multiple clients. See more at Publicity.
An older meaning of the term is closer to pamphleteer: someone who circulates ideas by publishing them, perhaps in ephemeral forms.
In future press conferences, it would be nice to hear Parcells refer to ‘the player’ as ‘this fancy little football person’…but that’s probably too much to wish for.
About Randy Galloway,
Doesn’t anyone else find it a little amusing that Galloway managed to write a complete article blasting a player about whom he claims he no longer cares? That was an awful lot of ‘no caring’.
He has allowed his intense Owens-hatred to affect his judgement. In fact, he cares so much about Owens, that he has absolutely nothing else to write about.
Mccourt, from way back…
Yeah in hindsight Coston over Stanley would have been the way to go but too late now.
Anyway I think we might find a solid receiver out of the Hurd, Rector and Austin trio. The one who excites me the most is Miles Austin, he’s like 6’3†217 and runs about a 4.45 forty, looks like he has excellent athletic ability. He must have shown hands and smarts in camp too for Bill to keep him on the 53 man roster. To me he looks to have the highest potential ceiling. But we’ve all heard of Randall Williams so nothing’s guaranteed. Still Randall Williams wasn’t a Bill Parcells project, where as Miles Austin is, which already makes me think his talent is real and transferable to the football field and not just a mirage. I think Austin could be the guy who battles and wins a starting job from a departed TO or Glenn in a couple of seasons.
donnyposner,
I guess you must hate me, then.
Somehow, I will manage to live with that.
Good luck with your life. Hopefully, you will never require the services of a law-enforcement officer who happened to read your diatribe.
Rafael,
I have my doubts that the 9-1-1 tape will resolve much of anything. I don’t recall that much of the police report (which is what is in question) that was based on the original call. Most of it was based on conversations at the scene, or even at the hospital. The 9-1-1 tape is not going to resolve any of that.
Nor do I see how the medical records will ever become public without Owens’ express authorization. If I were he, I would not give it. When you enter a hospital, they ask for your history. That would be part of that record. It might well contain events that he might be uncomfortable in sharing, and had no bearing on the current incident.
Also, I went to check out a draft profile on Colston after the Monday night game, check it out;
“once you watch a little film it is clear he lacks the burst and speed to get separation from NFL cornerbacks and is best suited to make the switch to tight endâ€Â
“should only be signed as a free agent because he is a ‘Tweener’ between receiver and tight endâ€Â
Ouch, how wrong, he’s the only rookie receiver to start, looks like a seventh round steal so far. Realistically though who would have guessed it?
blitz the freaking house on every damn play!!!!! sacks and turnovers baby…let’s get pumped up quickly!!!! 28-0 by the end of the first qtr!!!!!!
mr bill…. not all cops are bad, but MOST cops are. and its not like its a crap shoot. if you point out a random cop chances of him being a bad cop is pretty high…cops have to make a lot of judgement and have a lot of authority so they are going to make mistakes and do things that they shouldnt and most of the time they will not own up to it. ill be honest i hate cops…just having that job makes you bad automatically
ManTab,
yep, and if were up by more than twenty at halftime, I wanna see Romo start the second half. I know it won’t happen but still…
Luke,
There is one significant difference between Miles Austin and Randal Williams. Austin was a high-producer, although at a low level of competition. Williams never did much of anything in college, even at the low competition level.
Williams was about as raw as anyone could possibly get. He was pure athletic talent, minus any proven football skills. Austin has similar athleticism, and has at least shown he can play.
Austin is still a long-shot, but probably has a greater chance of succeeding in the NFL than Williams ever did.
Raf -
“She better be the best lay in civilization or working for free, cause she’s of no value to T.O.”
She may be operating under the notion that “any publicity is good publicity” — in which case she is a GREAT publicist having created a National crises out of a little drug interaction.
Come to think of it - its probably more likely she’s bonking TO….
Did you guys know, Drew Henson signed with the viking’s practice squad.
mantab,
why blitz if we’re getting good pressure and some sacks rushing 4?
police have now publicly classified TO as an accidental overdose, not a suicide attempt and publicly stated such via the chief of police.
their case is closed.
unless the NFL wishes to investigate TO for violating league substance abuse policy, doubtfull, its a closed case.
appears to me the boys have moved on. i suggest we do the same.
Mr Bill,
Thanks, I had a thought that Austin was productive in college. I think he’s a chance and time is on his side, I think TO and Glenn will at least play next season together as well so he’s just gotta show continuing progress to stay on the roster. A couple of seasons watching great players like TO and Glenn, practicing against a solid defense, and learning from a coach like Parcells gives him a great chance to develop into something I think.
Luke:
Who have had guessed Colston exceeding that tweener scouting report? Not me. The first I heard of him was in Sean Payton’s press conferences. So the short answer to that question is: Payton or someone in the Saints’ scouting system.
Austin could be good, too. Ironically or not, Colston and Austin both are from New Jersey…I think.
Mr. Bill
I dont hate you. I nevre said I hate the people. i hate the action…let me rephrase and say strongly dislike.
Although, I think VY is Tennessee’s greatest weapon, I wouldnt mind seeing him play to gauge how this defense does against a QB that can run.
THe D may learn something which helps against McNabb. I wholeheartedly believe we will win this game and I’d like the practice for McNabb which is a big game for us. They are all big and I dont want to overlook this one. We have not yet faced a Qb who can threaten a D with his legs.

re: journalism and career day
depends on what you want to do. I am attorney. journalists are paid very very low on pay scale. Best undergraduate degree for attorney is journalism. My undergraduate is journalism. Writing writing writing. Telling a story is what attorneys do. J.D. degree is best liberal arts degree. Don’t necessarily have to practice law so depends on what you plan on doing with degree. journalists are paid very very low on pay scale.
joker
did I say that journalists aren’t paid much?
dang. attorneys and journalists in here….hell im just a thug that graduated from O.D.P.U=on da porch university
I think you got that across linus…hehehe
hey boys. after raising 8 children and moving from West Texas I had to do something to pay the bills
you know, after the last couple days,id bet the house the cowboys cant wait to take out all their fustration on the titans.48-3,cowboys roll
Mr. Bill:
I really hope you’re not implying that most “law enforcement officers” would refuse to do their duty to society just because someone — Donny or anyone else — doesn’t LIKE them. That’s exactly the us-against-the-unappreciative-”citizens” attitude that makes so many people loathe the police. I’ve know quite a few police offic
