Aaron Glenn — A Safeties Best Friend?
Posted: November 30, 2006 @ 1:50 pm
ESPNet writer and occasional ‘Boys Blog guest K.C. Joyner has written a piece on over and underrated defensive backs. Two Cowboys, Anthony Henry and Aaron Glenn, make his list of underrated corners. Of Glenn he writes (protected, so no link):
Glenn is the Cowboys’ nickel back, so he doesn’t have as many passes thrown to him as Henry or Newman, but his 5.3 YPA indicates he might be the best nickel back in the league. Bill Parcells says he has so much faith in Glenn he believes there would be no drop-off if Glenn had to fill in for either Henry or Newman.
Joyner does not detail how much Glenn’s presence helps the shaky Cowboys safeties, particularly the free safeties Keith Davis and Pat Watkins. Many nickel backs line up in the slot, where many teams put their third receiver. Teams with really good wideouts have in recent years started to line up their biggest and best receivers inside, to create a #1 WR versus a #3 corner mismatch.
One Glenn value is his ability, at age 34, to man an outside position. This allows Dallas to move #1 corner Terence Newman inside, nullifying any interior mismatches defenses want to create. Two games ago, the Colts tried taking advantage of Dallas’ scheme by leaving top wideout Marvin Harrison outside against Glenn, while lining Reggie Wayne inside on Newman and putting their third receiver on Henry.
Glenn held his ground and made a game turning play early in the third when he batted a pass for Harrison into the air. Kevin Burnett intercepted it and scored a game-tying touchdown.
Glenn’s value to the safeties is that he gives Dallas a third corner skilled in man-to-man coverage. This means the free safeties have fewer instances where they have to cover receivers alone. Think back to last year. Henry injured his groin and missed much of the second half. Dallas had to use Jacques Reeves as a nickel back. On early downs, the Cowboys stayed in their base 3-4, no matter the opposing team’s formation. This put the free safety in man coverage if a team lined up with three WRs on first down. Carolina did this and matched up Ricky Proehl and Drew Carter on Davis. Each burned him for a deep pass in Dallas’ nailbiter win.
This year, Dallas has used nickel more on early downs against teams that use three receivers as their base set. It did against Arizona, allowing Newman to cover Larry Fitzgerald in the slot. Imagine if Davis or Watkins were responsible for Fitzgerald for a couple of dozen snaps? It’s not a pleasant thought.
This doesn’t mean the safeties are completely insulated. We discussed on Monday how Joey Galloway had beaten the safeties on deep first-down patterns. Bill Parcells made a tape this week showing Galloway’s romps through coverage, warning his deep defenders not to get complacent. That said, Glenn’s resurgence and Henry’s good health means the frees have a much lighter coverage load. I think this is one reason why the pass defense has limited its breakdowns the last five weeks.

Add in the amount of his salary and he is even more invaluable.
Also, how many veterans with his experience, talent, and size would have the nerve to return kicks? Yes this was in a pinch, but still.
mvp,
Step away from the graphics and take your hands off the keyboard. You will not be hurt!
I have felt for 2 years that A. Glenn has done an amazing job. He’s an all-time off the scrap heap FA acquisition.
I agree with StillHate. I’ve constantly been impressed with Glenn. He just seems to constantly taunt opposing QBs into throwing his way, much to their detriment. The guy is so good and so knowledgeable.
Its also no coincidence that Newman took a big step forward when Glenn arrived on the scene. He’s helped Newman a lot.
Lets hope Glenn can repeat his Giants game performance from a year ago. He had 2 picks in that one, didn’t he? When the Giants matched the 6′5″ Plaxico up against him? Classic.
Rafael
I’ve always liked Glenn and Henry and it’s nice to finally see them get the kudos they both deserve. This whole defensive unit is really coming together!
BTW, at age 34 I was probably at my athletic best! I played softball, mostly shortstop, for 17 years and I hit for a higher average, and was faster than most of the younger players on my team.
Take it easy on us old guys!
One things for sure, we’ll need Glenn early and often against the Saints next week. There probably isn’t as good a bargain on any team, unless you look at Romo’s $750,000.
He’ll get an extension and a good contract next year. But, who would you rather have right now, Romo at $4/$5 million/yr, or Eli at $9 million. I know who I would choose.
It’s nice that Parcells has finally got this salary cap under control, and we can retain good talent. This team is stacked for the near future.
BP likes him so he is probably of good character, a good guy to have around the younger players
mikaele- are u comparing softball with football?
Glen & Henry have had great years and if they work the giants reciever comming off the line, like they did in the colts game this game is ours. However if the giants get their timming on offence it will be a close one cause manning will get some confidence back
No MVP, there is no comparison… I’m just talking about athletic ability in a certain age bracket.
Joe,
Agreed, the worse thing that could happen is to let them get a quick score and get that confidence up. If we keep them grounded early, or even score early it could be the death nail.
I swear I sound like one of the smartest guys in the world talking about the Cowboys after reading the blog.
To quote Tony Reali, I got “Inside information”
NFL News
Week 13: “Final month ratchets up pressure”
“With all the drama of their loss last week to Tennessee, the Giants are re-focused”?
Are they serious? There goes that eastern bias again… or is it just wishful thinking on their part. With all of the organizational infighting, they are so out of focus, they will have to use coke bottle glasses and squint just to see double!
As Mark Twain put it, “You can’t depend on your eyes, when your imagination is out of focus.â€Â
Romo… will, for the first time, face a team for the second time. So his moves will not be a surprise to the Giants… What planet are they from?
He won’t surprise them, he will blow them away! He’s a different quarterback from the one they faced the first time. In fact, this is a different team then the one they faced the first time… and everybody knows it… except of course, those poor unbelieving easterners.
damn Easterners. I mean…
Raf, what did Joyner say about Henry?
Man oh man, getta load of this.
It’s not real, but pretty funny, with a hint of truth in it about the giants.

Whimpering Eli sitting in the corner…*chuckle*

I meant no disrespect to the… believing easterners’… only the unbelieving ones.
Don’t tell anybody, but I was born in Beverly, Massachusetts. Oh crap, I just did that!
CNMDallasfan
Their team meeting probably did go something like that…LOL
OK, nerd check:
How many of you that read that article (post #16) had to count out on your hand how many syllables were in the word ‘intellectual’?
Don’t ask me what made me think of the question.
What I am excited about is Ware bouncing around and taking some shots on a backup Tackle. You think Eli is jittery now? Wait till he goes for a ride on the D-Train!
I don’t know what it is this year- as well as we have been doing I have doubts EVERY week? Except for the skins and look how that turned out!
This week it is the whole- back against the wall- us against the world mentality that may infuse the Giants. Does anyone recall the beat down they put on Washington last year when riding high on emotion?
I think we are a better, healthier team but something must be said about the emotional factor hear.

Come on, are you related to Yogi Berra?
swirvin, a Yogiism
Mikaele, beat me to it…lol
Living in Houston, I was shocked when the Texans cut Glenn but happy when my hometown team picked him up. Just goes to show you how far the Texans will have to go to recover from the Casserly fisaco. As some of you may have read on SI from Peter King, Casserly says(paraphrasing) “Tony Romo is the 6th best young QB in the league behind Eli Manning and Byron Leftwich”. Not 6th best - 6th best YOUNG qb. Byron Leftwich? Anyone willing to make that trade? Didn’t think so. Now you know why the Texans are so bad.
Just noticed, Hoyte has not had a carry yet. No this probably is not going to be his strong suit, but give the dog a bone.
Could be a fun mis-direction play. JJones goes wide on a sweep, Romo fakes the toss to him and Hoyte goes straight ahead on a delay and takes the rock.
The defense is so surprised that nobody gets to him for 3 yards. It doesn’t matter though because Hoyte never lifts his head up, just barrels through without even looking and falls forward for 8 yards.
That guy is going to be running down hill if they ever give him the ball. Probably saving him for a “special occasion”.
shane-
if im not mistakened, hoyte had the slowest dash time in the league? let’s just stick with him leading the way for JJ and MBIII.
leftwich is rumored to be on the trade block according to some article. id love cowboys to take him as backup qb next season when db is gone. but i dont think he’ll like being backup.
ESPN quote-
“New York lost its final eight games of the season in 2003. It began the Coughlin era in 2004 by dropping its eight of its last nine games, winning the finale”
2005 they lost 2 of the last 3.
in other words…
(is rafael gone?)
..
..
mvp, don’t you have any other toys to play with? Maybe a G.I Joe? Hahahaha…
you know.. i don’t know if this is NORMAL or just a cowboy’s thing. but everytime i watch a cowboys game (or even the hokies game), at least one opposing player gets injured. is there a place that keep stats on those? i bet cowboys have caused the most injuries (at least key ones) for the opposing team (same with the hokies).
ESPN observes that “The downfall actually started in the Oct. 23 victory over the Cowboys in Dallas. Five key Giants were injured in that game. They haven’t been the same team since.”
sounds like Roy William jacking up McNabb and the Eagles haven’t been the same since.
I think Osi has been out since that game
http://www.giants.com/gameday/Injuries.html
Cowboys/Giants injury report
I didnt like Glenn when he forst came in….too many completions against him. Nowadays, I dont know if there’s anyone on the roster as consistant as he is. The guy is a champion!.
On T.O….He has been a good citizen so far, playing hard, scoring TD and helping out other recievers develop. Can’t ask more of him. As competitive as he is, whenevr we start loosing, he’ll get frustrated and be disruptive…dont see it happening though. Amazing how the media interprets what he says and always put him on the spot. As much as I like Keyshawn, Owens is a big upgrade to the team.
On the Giants, that team’s season will be defined this sunday, they are hungry, and mad at themselves. As I’ve said before, they will come out to play and they’ll be tough to beat…It’s about who wants it more. And the Saints will be the same. 2 tough games to define our postseason chances….gotta love the NFL.
MVP,
Huh, y’know now that you mention it it does seem that there is always a player or two from the opposition who gets injured against us. While we on the other hand seem to do very well in that regard. Let’s hope that continues hey.
mvp - that’s a parallel to last year where I really think the Boys season was sealed during their early win over the Giants…that’s when Flo went down and our offense was never the same.
the more I read about all the Giant-bashing going on in the media the more I’m getting uneasy about this game. The media is fueling that team up pretty good, and they already knew the season is basically on the line for them. I hope the Cowboys are ready for anything and everything.
More Giants bashing
Hopefully jleefilled’s worries will not materialise on Sunday
Hey guys, for all the Giant-bashing thats going on, I think the most inspiration comments were given to the Cowboys by a certain loud-mouth Tight End. I believe it was, “No way in hell the Cowboys can beat us,” or something like that.
Nothing the media can say will can energize the Giants as much as Shockey has energized the Cowboys.
raf
i need yo get ahold of you. can i get your email please.
Can the Giants regroup in one week after that excruciating loss and then all the finger pointing. I think not. Once that crap starts it remains smoldering until the next flash opportunity. If the Cowboys get a 14 point lead just keep the cameras on the Giants bench. It’ll be better than the game, except that the Cowboys will win it.
We should not be getting complacent about the Giants.
- They killed us at home, when we were 3 pt favourites
Of their 3 recent loses,
- 1 was too Chicago, no shame there
- 1 to Jax in Jax, we can relate
- And they were in control for 50 of the 60 mins in Ten, we can’t count on another choke like that.
I think we win - but if the players think they’ll mail it in we’ll lose. Hopefully the “loud-mouth TE” plus the loss in Dallas + BP will make sure they aren’t complacent.
At halftime of the Ravens/Bengals game they’re going to preview the Cowboys/Giants game. We’ll see it’s a preview of the game or a review of the trash talk.
Hey, good preview. They kept on subject and only alluded to the distractions a litte bit.
Ed Reed got burned big time for a long TD in coverage. Why won’t everyone in the media (and some people on here) go on about how overated he is like they would if it was Roy?
Anybody worse than Gumble? Dierdork maybe.

I wish I could have those icons for my AIM “buddy icons”…that would be so funny
I want to see Roy get a nice clean shot at shockey over the middle and see if shockey gets up talking(if he gets up)
So this is the mighty AFC I keep hearing about. Hmm. Bengals 13, Ravens 7. yup they look awfully scary to me!
not that i like the Giants…..i don’t……
and I love thre grafix….
but while yall are at it………go ahead and make one the Star beating up the Eagle…..
no reason not to beat a team while they are DOWN!!! I ain’t got no love for any of the other NFC East teams……but hate is the only thing that can ever describe the iggles.
GO BOYS!!!
http://theboysblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/sux_jints.gif
Just trying this out.
The best thing about the Giants is sitting back and watching them beat the crap out of themselves. Wouldn’t it be cool if they signed Vanderjagt? Can you imagine the unity on the team then?
I’m with Boy From Oz. I would be very surprised if we win this game. I happen to think the schedule works out for us OK that we can lose and still win the division, but again, I just dont see us going to NY and winning after getting clobbered at home. Happily surprised, mind you, but surprised nonetheless. Like Boy From Oz said, they lost to Chicago and JAx and a fluke to Ten. Well, we saw what happened to us at Jax, I wouldnt feel terribly confident about playing the Bears, and a fluke can happen to anyone (that’s pretty much the definition of a fluke). Couple that with them getting a boatload of players back from injuries, and them being ticked off, and I smell trouble. Fortunately, mvp… should be around any minute now with his rose-colored shades ….
I’m somewhat confedent that Dallas can win on Sunday, provided they play their best game, and don’t get sloppy. Penalties and turnovers have haunted us in all of our losses. And over-confedence kills. We need to rattle Eli early on, and keep our defence off the field as much as possible. I’m not terribly worries about match ups. Roll on Romo!
Boy from Oz
Remember, it was penalties and turnovers that killed us in that game, The Cowboys were not dominated, more like “snake bit”!
This is a different team… and they’re playing sound football. I also agree with CowboyMan, there is too much turmoil over there. That in itself takes its toll.
The Cowboys were fired up for this game long before Shockey’s idiotic comment, but I love the fuel he adds to that fire.
I wanna see Shocky humiliated! I wanna see him at the bottom of a scrum pile, and when the smoke clears, to be laying face down, eyes bulging, tongue hanging out, and his pants down around his ankles!
wow i can’t believe the bengals won. i wasn’t expecting that. but ask me if i care?
i don’t care at all because all i care about right now is this

giants, stop fighting like girls

ESPN just called our ‘Boys the Dallas Romos! LOL
I hope they “RomoZip” the Giants!
question-
after watching espn all day, i pretty much got the idea that there is a mutiny going on in that locker room because everybody is trashtalking among themselves and against the coach.
and this is the team cowboys has to face on sunday? history no need to apply here.
cowboys to win by 2 TD and 2 FG.
stop the bickering
“We want to thank the media again for keeping us in check, letting us know that we’re a horrible team, that Dallas is going to come in here and beat us 42-0,” linebacker Antonio Pierce said. ”
i think i speak for the cowboy nation when i say “oh ur very welcome”
i change my prediction.
dallas to win 42-0.
“People think our team is being torn apart, but it’s not,” running back Brandon Jacobs said. “Everyone loves everyone around here. It’s water under the bridge. We’ve got a game to play. Kiss, hug, do what you’ve got to do and let’s go out and be first in the division.”
uh “best first in the division”? this guy obviously didn’t get the memo.
i think len pasquarelli’s been reading this forum. this is a quote from him
“Just a few weeks ago the Giants seemed headed toward a special season. Now, after three straight losses and constant bickering, the Giants are on life support”
HE USED THE WORD BICKERING. I WROTE THAT AT 12AM YESTERDAY. PROOF IS ON THIS THREAD.
BREAKING NEWS-
in case you missed it, Ferguson was given a script of what Shockey said in the locker room. Ferguson kept thanking the reporters for it and he hung it in his locker (more like ripped the paper through the jersey hanger and let it hand there). He then asked the reporter to thank him for saying it.
Shaun Suisham sign to the Redskins pratice squad, I heard
guess vandy was too busy for a tryout
lets go Sunday hurry up
so let me recap..
chargers proved they were possible lemons by having trouble with the raiders last week..
ravens are apparently not all that according to tonight..
grossman is the weakest link on an very exceptional team..
colts is nothing since we already beat them..
bengals are too inconsistent..
so who is actually capable of beating cowboys in miami?
Alright gentlemen I have a question. Yesterday I watched the BP press conference and Bill mentioned that he asked Romo to conduct a Google search on a former NFL “star who burned brightly for a short time in this league,â€Âwhen asked by one of the reporters who the star was Bill would only say “ask Romo.†My question isthis: is the star Kurt Warner? I googled the exact phrase Bill said and came up with this article which was written in 2004:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4964793 . About 5 paragraphs from the end the author describes Kurt Warner as a Roman candle who “seems to have burned brightly then flamed out before his time.†Just interested in anybody else’s thoughts.
so, i was talking to my wife and i was explaining the terms “romosexual” and “romophobe” to her…she say’s “is there such thing as romo-curious? my question…is there?
DAVE= No way Bill compares Romo to Warner, he’d never give Romo the satisfaction.
This game with the Giants is going to be one for the ages. The Cowboys are playing smart good football and are loaded with talent. Romo is so calm and cool its uncanny. He reminds me of Eli except hes having fun. Its going to be hard for the Giants to cover our receivers with Romo buying some time.
Eli has not played as bad at home this year or last. He is a different QB at home. That being said I dont think he looks very confident right now and is playing poorly. If he is going to turn it around this is the perfect scenario for him to do it in. I wonder if the Giants were not taking the Titans as a bye week to get ready for the Cowboys. Shockeys stupid statement was made before the Tennessee game if I’m not mistaken. That should tell you where the teams mindset was. I bet they were even getting ready for us about mid-week last week. They were probably leaning on the side of caution on injuries so as to be ready this week. Yes I do think this game is going to be one for the ages and I’m sure the Giants will be ready to play. Once they walk on the field all the distractions will not mean much at all.
emrdog,
Not any more.
The flameout that crossed my mind was Rob Johnson. He played great for Miami for about half a season, got traded to Buffalo, and then was terrible for the rest of his career.
Scott Mitchell was another name that came to mind.
Funny stuff on ESPN this morning. As MVP said they gave Ferguson a printout of Shockey’s comments and he jokingly stuck it up in his locker, but the really funny part was when they went to Bradie. He said “We don’t want to get in no crappin’ contest with them”. Funny stuff.
Fantastic quote, even if it does come from the enemy:
“(The Cowboys are) a lot better team,” Pierce added. “The guy makes things happen with his feet. After we played (Michael) Vick, we were talking about playing Bledsoe and it was ‘The tree vs. the jackrabbit.’ Now, what’s a little slower than a jackrabbit? A little bunny or something? He’s a good player.”
Oh yeah, and
Also, a funny thing about Romo is, I went back and did some net research on draft profiles for him coming out of college. A lot of them had good stuff to say about him, suggested he might be a mid to late round pick. then they’d mention that if he wasnt picked, it would be because he clocked one of the slowest 40 times in the entire draft class (or at least for QBs that year) (apparently 5.0 or worse).
So I guess he’s quick but not fast? Whatever he is, it’s effective.
I don’t want a game for the ages, I want a blowout for the ages! I want to see Eli cry! I want shocky to be helped off the field in disgrace after Roy williams hands him his helmet! I want Barber to feel the Wrath of Ware! I want that snooty NY crowd to leave early, in shock and discust. I want REVENGE!! GO COWBOYS!!
You got it SD. It’s revenge week for that embarrassment in Dallas. I want to hear the NY crowd BOOOOOO the home team.
Eli called Peyton last night and begged him to play for him this Sunday and Peyton said “hell no, been there done that”
I have a feeling you may get some of both. The Gnats will come out with a lot of emotion and trying to prove they aren’t dead. The Boys gotta weather the storm early.
That kind of beginning (emotion) takes a lot out of you and cannot be sustained for the entire game. It comes back to talent, schemes, and execution.
If we keep them in check for the beginning, or score early it will be possible. Early score for them and it will be a long day I’m afraid. They will not take this lightly.
In the end, I don’t know that they match up due to injuries and inner turmoil. They are not that far removed from being the top of our division however. That being said, we beat the Foreskins in every statistical category of importance and lost.
I’ll go Boys 24, Gnats 17
Superdave, Im also trying to figure out who BP could be talking about and the only one I could Come up with is Dan (magic man) Makowski in Green Bay. H e came off the bench led a miraculous come back and set the place on fire for a short while and flamed out.
I really didn’t think anything of this until I read this article:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2681801
Now I don’t know if Bledsoe wants to stay in Dallas beyond this year.
I dont think Shockey follows the Cowboys , because if he did he would also Know that every game we lost this year we beat ourselve more than the other team did. I get anxious thinking of this game because despite the turmoil they are a very talented team. However, when I think of our offense I just dont see how they can stop us.(except lots of wind) We are clicking on all cylinders. We can kill you quick or give you a methodical slow death.
I assume Bledsoe will be allowed to check around with teams next year. If he gets a starting oppurtunity he will take it with another team and I don’t see Dallas being a roadblock even though he is under contract.
If he doesn’t, and chances are decent he won’t, then he will have to decide if he wants to be a backup or retire. I could see him retiring and then coming back for whoever might lose a starter next year after the season has started ala Testaverde.
early score does not mean disaster. i think if we go in at halftime either up, tied, or down only by 10 or less, we are ok.
the team has played quite well in second halfs lately. one thing is certain, dallas saw the BEST the giants can play on MNF. the gints have not seen our best. BTW, we also heard the best the gints could talk after MNF.
it wouldnt shock me to see williams lay burress out the first chance he gets, even if it costs us 15.
Not to change the subject but I read an article on Kyle Tutley of the Chiefs whose playing Rt Tackle on a top rushing team playing at a weight of 265 lbs. I havent heard ony of the football talking heads ever mention this but I find it incredible. Thats more like a Tackle in the 70s.
I figured it was only a matter of time before the question got asked.
Yesterday, during the BP press conference, pulitzer candidate matt mosely asked about the credit for developing romo. On his DMN blog he all but confirmed where he was going with the question: who should get the credit for romo being what he is? (i would add assuming he becomes the end all be all that he may actually be).
I would answer: who cares?
i guess it would be fun to debate, BP simply said, “you’ll have to ask tony.”
The natural inclination is to give all the credit to ONE person, but BP alluded to it being alot of people’s hard work. He mentioned three different assistants, but i would also add the following thought:
If romo becomes a franchise QB, with a storied NFL record, maybe HE should get most of the credit.
Jarhead,
A lot of people apparently had something to do with his training and knowledge. But your point is correct, if he didn’t have ‘it’ to begin with, it doesn’t matter.
I believe Henson had all, or most, of the same people around him.
Shane,
my guess: the popular story will be that sean peyton was the guy that developed him into what he is, not only that, he sould get all the credit for seeing his potential and bringing him to dallas.
First time I saw Romo after a game, I was thinking Derek Jeter with a star on his helm:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2681502
Now-
I heard about the “coward” remark from Plaxico but did anyone else know about these comments about Roy?
After that Monday night Giant win, Burress criticized the Dallas safety for complaining about how he was impeded by an official from making a play on Burress when the Giants’ receiver caught a 50-yard touchdown bomb. Williams collided with the back judge on the play. “He couldn’t have made that play if he wanted to,” Burress said after the game. “He can’t cover and No.25 (rookie safety Patrick Watkins) can’t cover. It wasn’t a surprise. That’s been (Williams’) rap since he came in the league. He’s a 250-pound ankle tackler. That’s what he is. And horse collars, too.”
“He wouldn’t have made that play if he was on a skateboard,” Burress added.
It gets better. When asked if he thought Roy was a big hitter he answered:
“He is, when you ain’t looking,” Burress said. “He’ll sock you when you ain’t looking. Look at how he tackles guys coming straight at him and guys that are not looking. He’s a different football player.”
This should be fun to watch.
JJT of DMN states twice in a weekly writeup posted on foxsports that the gints have won the last three against us.
not true. the boys beat the gints last year in Tx stadium. the gints have won the last two against us.
Do any of you remember that old commercial for the NFL? I can’t remember for the life of me who the narrator was, but he was, and is a popular, older actor. Dennis something I think. He does a retirement commercial for somebody right now.
Anyway, he would talk about football as they showed clips. One was about telepathy between Aikman and Irvin. The reason I bring it up, is that one of them was about ‘hearing the footsteps’. Talking about receivers going over the middle before a big hit.
You think Plexiglass might be hearing some footsteps come Sunday?
Snoooow Daaaaay in the Ozaaaarks.
woooooooo
guys this game is getting bigger and bigger by the minute.it almost seems like a heavyweight champ match with all the trash talking by the giants. our guys are very much under control when it comes to trash talking even t.o was cool when asked a few questions.i think shockey got us pumped up instead.
I think that at the first opportunity he will be hearing bells
I can feel the hate building up. For example- I HATE Shockey. I saw him on NFL network in the off season and he was a complete idiot.
Do they have a true “rival” in NY? Maybe this is how these types of things get started. Games are always physical with the Gnats but it doesn’t carry the same emotion as Redkins Week. That is changing.
Shane J.
You’re thinking of Dennis “bad things man, bad things” Hopper.
Any one going across the middle and not looking for Roy Williams when hes out there is an idiot.
Raf,
That’s him! Loved those commercials.
Anyone who will be in the stands on Sunday needs to take the following sign:
SHOCKEY: WELCOME TO HELL!
The Cowboys D will be ready for the Giants. We’re seeing now just what BP was preparing this D for all along. Stop the run, make the opponent throw underneath and then make the tackle. 3&out, It’s a beautiful thing when it’s working.
Plex is approximately 10000x the asshole TO is. TO does nothing this year and gets called Satan. What about Plex? I know the media is criticizing him, but not nearly enough, and c’mon! Someone call him the devil!
He’s super talented but he might be the dumbest, laziest, and the most selfish WR in the league.
Shane j: Plexi is talking from fear. He’s trying to talk his game. I have no doubt that he’ll catch a couple but he seems to be a lazy, almost lackadaisical player, who is easily thrown off his game. I think the last part is also true of Eli and Shockey. A little adversity sets in and the Giants are through.
I agree with Mikael 1 that DBs are better than many give thme credit for. You must remember that the rules in the NFL favor the offense overwhelmingly. It’s a wonder offenses in this era can be stopped at all. If our DB could play like the 60s and 70s DBs no offense would ever get a 1st down. In addition to the rules favboring the offense, todays officials seem to throw flags on the D for, not what they actually see, but for what they think ‘may’ have happened. That sort of ‘rules interpretation’, leads to many fantom calls. It also leads to players acting out, ie Keyshawn, hits that didn’t happen, in order to draw the flag. You see fantom calls in almost every game, and in some games, four or five times. As I’ve said before, the refs are ruining football.
Henry has been the target of almost every team playing us this year. Some dropped passes have been a big help to Henry. He has not covered all that well from film Ive watched. In coverage I think hes even been a liability. He has made some good plays but his man catches a lot of balls just looking at film. Keyshawn and Bolton both dropped TD passes where he was clearly toast.
Henry was brough to dallas to cover TO and Buress. Well theres just one to cover now lets see how he does.
I think Henry’s strengths are muscling up with larger receivers who he can stay with, and run support. Yes, Norm’s examples are of larger type receivers, but on those I think he got caught on play action, and it wasn’t because they burned him with their routes ro speed.
His weakness would be staying with smaller, quicker receivers man to man.
If I could script this game… we lose the coin toss. Giants receive. Eli throws deep to Plax, intercepted by Henry (Roy plasters Plax). The whole Giant sideline deflates saying, “oh no, here we go again”. Romo spends the rest of the evening putting on an offensive clinic and the DWare and the defense have fun padding their sack and turnover totals.
I think that would be my perfect game and save me a ton of needless worry.
For those of you who are afraid of the Giants, consider this; “The Giants are 3-4 against teams with records of .500 or better and face three clubs after Dallas that fall into that category: Carolina, Philadelphia and New Orleans.”
“The Cowboys finish with three home games in the final four weeks against teams with a combined record of 24-26.”
Manning is not playing well and as we all know they are in turmoil. The Cowboys are playing the best football they have played not only all year, but also for several years.
Put 2 and 2 together. The Giants will play for a while on emotion, but as Shane J said earlier, that emotion will only last so long.
So long Giants!
This is not the same giant’s team that beat us in October!!!!!
Strahan will not be playing.. and if he does he will not be 100%… and for that matter the other guy urma… (something or rather) has been hurt and hasn’t played the last four weeks…
They are not the same team… The only way they beat us if we beat ourselves!!!!
On the other hand:
We are not the same team… Romo was thrown into fire the first time he played them (not expecting to play)… What makes Romo click is his preparation for the opposing team… He has had 10 days to get ready for the giants… Not to mention our defense which has been playing better.
I agree with shane too. But this Giants team will not relinquish the NFC East so easily I dont think. I also think they have great leadership in some of their players and will be ready to play. Eli has much better numbers at home and they are hard to beat there. He has played unusually bad lately though. I’m not getting my hopes up to much the last time I did that we got a field goal blocked and lost the game with no time left on the clock.
Hey Swirvin
I hope those remarks from Plaxico Burris were jammed on hook or taped to Roy Williams locker and burned on his brain.
I also hope he has the opportunity to look straight into his eyes, and smiles, just before he steam rolls him
It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if he did the same to Shockey

Absolutely dead on! I don’t know how many times I’ve seen a flag fly because somebody petitioned for it; that drives me crazy!
The refs need to let them play football and quit being so flag happy!
Just got some really bad news. Due to the recent snows, a parade thing at my church has been moved from today to Sunday at 4:30pm (CST). I will not get to see the last half of the game. It just isn’t fair. WWJD
A. Glenn reminds me a lot of Darryl Green with his size and speed. Glenn was a great addition to this team. I don’t think to many teams can brag about the quality depth at corner we have.
It’s nice to see the Cowboys go into this game on a roll. BP says he is going to play Watkins more this week.
It would be nice to see Watkins de-cleat Plexi and recover a fumble or force an interception. That would go a long way to right the mistakes he made in the first game.
Norm
They already have… they relinquished the NFC East the day we beat Tampa Bay, because they haven’t had the division lead since… and the Cowboys are not going to relinquish it back!
Shane J,
I hear you brother… I am coaching my boy, and they will be playing their play-offs games on Sunday (for the first time).. They play in-line hockey.. (brutal and fast pace game). I’ll be watching the recorded game. I like your WWJD…

Jesus would pray about it, and then do the will of his Father, but I think He’d at least seek his will to find out if He will be looking through the hole in the roof.
I had to do the same thing for the Cowboys/Indy game… I had to watch it later, so my heart goes out to you.
If it were up to me, there would be no such thing as pass interference. It’s supposed to be a contact sport.
