Set ‘Em Up

Posted: December 30, 2006 @ 9:08 pm

It appears next week’s NFC playoff slate is set.

The Giants win puts them in. Not 100% in but it would take a miracle for the Packers to leapfrog them.

New York’s win knocks the Falcons out, so forget them beating the Eagles in Philly tomorrow. Dallas pretty much has the 5th seed locked up, barring an Eagles stumble.

Which means:

1. The Cowboys will travel to Seattle;
2. The Eagles will host the Giants.

Let me add that this makes three NFC East teams in the playoffs. I’ll have to check for the exact date, but it’s been years since one division accomplished this. I’m not sure this has occurred since the NFL went back to four divisions per conference.

I really HATE that we did not win the east…however, this could be…MAJOR COULD BE…a stroke of luck.

    1. Seahawks look as vunerable as the Cowboys.
    2. Cowboys seem to focus more on the road.
    3. The Eagles are HOT!
    4. The Giants play us as tough as anyone.

Basically, I like our chances in Seattle…then Chicago most likely…

HOWEVER, I still think we are a year a way from a big run.

Quick comment about the last post. Their is a senator or congressman, forget who, that is going to go after them on that. I cant remember the reason at this moment but when i heard about his reason it made sense. Tax breaks, public funded stadiums and other perks and then they want to turn around and charge you more.

    Raf,
What happens if giants lose… as far as the Cowboys are concern?

I want to go to play seattle first. We match up best with them. I’d perfer to play either Philly or N.O. not at all or in NFC championship game. Philly is in our head and I just dont like the matchup with N.O. Their greatest strengths are our worse weaknesses. To win the super bowl you have to play all comers but I dont mind a few breaks along the way. COWBOYKEVY if we cut TO (we will) we are going to be desperate for a top WR. I really like Clayton but he’s not a #1 or a good #2. If Hurd can get bigger and Stronger he may have a chance.

Big game for Tiki. He’s going out with a bang. Maybe he’ll have a little surprise for the Eagles next week.

I hope they try to stick to the NFL. The NFL has been sticking to us. I love pro football, its my hobby and passion but, the wallet is only so deep. I could afford season tickets here (N.O.)but would have to budget. Unforunately thats only half bill. Gas, food, achohol, time, and child care. I dont mean to whine but damm their salary cap may be going up but mine sure the hell aint.

It’ll be good to see the Giants and Eagles beat up on each other next week. Hopefully they wear each oter down so much that whoever wins the game will be so spent that they lose the next week.

    Tex on December 30th, 2006 11:28 pm

Tex would rather play at Seattle than at home vs. the Giants - even though the home game 1 tickets in hand become void. The Bears, in the dead of Chicago winter, that is a different story. Happy New Year to all.

PS: How ’bout a flea flicker tomorrow for Tex?

Geeze, if the G-Men can run like they did tonight without Shockey why do they need him. Keep that blocking TE in there and run like hell against the Eagles.

I like our chances in Seattle. Maybe we can catch the Seahawks in a dwon week and us in an up week. Dallas 31. Seattle 21.

The way the year has gone for Giants I wouldnt be surprized if the long shot Packers some how snuck in. Does anyone remeber a Cowboy team this unpredictable. If we won by thirty i wouldnt be surprized and if we lost by thirty I wouldnt be surprized.

Let’s not be so quick to say we’re playing Seattle. Most likely, yes, but in today’s NFL, it is totally possible for Atalanta to win tomorrow against the Eagles. Everyone threw the Giants on the wood pile to burn, and they came up big when we least expected.

One thing I’ve learned this year, expect the unexpected.

    Squidlo97 on December 30th, 2006 11:59 pm

Bushpilot, you are definitely right about that . This has been the craziest year that i can remember. Can the eagles miss out if they lose or are they in no matter what. It would really tickle me to death if they missed out.

    larry on December 31st, 2006 1:48 am

Also, if it does go as expected, it’s not a lock for us to play Chic. IF we beat Seattle: The Bears would play 6th seed if they also win
And would it REALLY be a shock for Giants to beat Eagles?!

    Squidlo97 on December 31st, 2006 2:45 am

Chicago doesnt have to win they have a bye. I could see the Giants winning that game. I hope the eagles win if that means they go next to N.O.

Larry, saw your post. You keep on predicting those things. I superstious too. I havent recorded a Dallas game since the detroit blowout in 92. every one else gets to rewatch games and analyze, if I tried to do it gaurantee lose.

    bushpilot on December 31st, 2006 7:02 am

Squidlo, are you on graveyard shift, or some where else in the world? Or, just staying up late through the night like myself once in a while?

larry, good point. If we acquire the #5 seed, and beat Seattle next week, Giants beat Philly, we’re going to New Orleans. I know most people don’t want to hear that, but those are the facts. I can definitely see the Giants beating Philly. The NFC East is so tough, anyone can beat anyone else on any given week.

As far as playing New orleans or Chicago, I’m not sure that I go along with what most here are saying. The weather in Chicago can be worse than it is here in Alaska in January. Plus, I don’t think there is any way that NO plays like that against us again.

Catch 22, do you want to play indoors in January against a team that shredded your defense the 1st time, with a chance for revenge? 2nd choice, play at Chicago in unknown weather conditions outside against one of the best defenses in the league?

I’m still up in the air about which way I’m leaning, it’s not so cut and dry to me.

Bushpilot i was on the night shift. Just made it home. I hope one day to see Alaska. I think the reason I would rather play Chicago is their QB doesnt scare me and I live in N.O. area and if we lose I’ll have to hear it the rest of my life. I would also like to play them when Im feeling more confidence in our D. Im hoping a couple of games will get them back on track and get some confidence back.

    CowboyMan on December 31st, 2006 9:47 am

Larry, No, no shock either way with the Eagles and Giants. I would like to see the Cowboys play a complete game today. Good balance and production on offense and a stifling defense. I think it would build our confidence going in to play the Seahawks. Go Cowboys!!!! Cowboys 35, Lions 17.

    bushpilot on December 31st, 2006 11:31 am

Squidlo, I can’t argue with you’re reasoning, and I don’t have to live in NO to suffer like you do if they lost to them again. Of course, there are a lot of Seahawk fans up here, it’s the closest professional football team, so I might catch a little guff if the Boys lost to them as well.

All I know is that Garcia didn’t/doesn’t scare me either. But, when you play defense like we did last week, I guess most QB’s would bear a resemblance to Y.A. Tittle. Let’s hope we see a complete and fired up team today.

The jints with a reinvigorated running attack might give the Beagles fits. I think Coughlin found a way to not let Eli kill them. Of course the skins’ poor tackling helped.

  32. 32
    bushpilot on December 31st, 2006 11:58 am

Yeah keystonetom, it looked like Eli was just a bus driver. As much as some in the media are saying there is a “greater concern” with Romo after last weeks performance, I’ll take that over Eli anyday.

I’ve been preaching this for the last couple years, stop Tiki, you stop the Giants. there is no way in hell that Eli has the capacity to beat anyone. I believe he was 12 for 26 with 101 yards and 1 TD. That TD cam on a pass where the safety forgot to cover, sound familiar?

You would think that you’d have better stats with your team ahead, and a running attack like they had yesterday. I think Romo will be fine, we just can’t rely on him to solely win the game. Playing from behind and having to throw, is immensely different than playing from in front, and having a good running attack to use play action.

It seems that the mediots, for the most part, still give Eli a pass because of his last name. While Romo, who has put up better statistics per game, has been “found out”. Give me a break, these people change their minds as quickly as the wind changes direction. I only read most of their articles for a good laugh. The sky-is-falling mentality is alive and well.

Expect the Cowboys to play much better on the road. They have all season.

Got something to say?
