Happy Birthday to Us

Posted: February 27, 2008 @ 2:17 pm

Perhaps it’s because I have a son who is about to celebrate a birthday.  Whatever the reason, I missed this blog’s 3rd birthday last Friday and I feel like a deadbeat dad.

Sorry, Raul.  Sorry, blog.  Sorry dear readers.

Happy birthday to The ‘Boys Blog.  We’re all growed up and, THREE!

If the NFL has an uncapped year, I agree that NFL would be making a Huge Mistake. Sports Fans don’t need another sport like Baseball.

Pat Kirwan will be on the local radio station here in 2 hours. I’m sure this issue in conjuction with Bill Polian’s comments will be discussed.

Redskins are going to work- they cut BLloyd and are busy restructiung basically every veteran they have on the roster to create more space.

Could they really go after Moss or C Johnson?

ditto, happy birthday, have enjoyed every moment.

    Charb,

if we have an uncapped year, what’s to stop the Redskins or any team from restructuring every bad contract so that they expire that capped year and wiping out all your past mistakes?

I for one am not for letting them off the hook, I doubt Jerry is either.

I agree but Jerry is the one saying the owners will opted out.

    rha on February 27th, 2008 3:56 pm

Yea, but the owners will have to establish guidelines to prevent abuse. They are greedy, but not stupid.

Honestly, I hear Indy is way over the cap, but you don’t hear that much about Washington. How can they not be dealing with huge amounts of dead money? Call me perplexed.

Jerry owes us all a Big Birthday present on Friday!
Come on Jerry, How’s about Randy Moss with a bow on him.

Captain, I agree with a lot you say, and I don’t have a problem with bringing in any player, but I have a vision of Moss telling everyone in our locker room that Brady is king and Romo is $hit. Also, he is too moody for me, has a cloud over his head where ever he goes, kind of like that Charlie Brown character.

I have a lot less problem with guys like PacMan, DHall, TO, at least they have energy and some passion and you know where they are coming from. Moss has a “I could care less” attitude that really sucks. We’ve all been around those types, they’re downers to be around. Get away from em after a loss, that’s when he will start the Brady wouldn’t have lost this game for us crap.

rha, I’m not sure about Moss either, I’m just liking the thoughts of T.O. and Moss on the same field.
I could see him being a real problem too.
I agree there are better FA options for us. God knows we you could use some players with a little fire.

Great site. Great insight from all the legit bloggers who aren’t turds with multiple troll accounts yet still manage to offer zero insight or East Coast jock sniffers carrying on a transparent charade as legit Cowboys supporters.

Moss isn’t going anywhere and as I’ve pointed out before, the Pats will offer something at least within striking distance of whatever the highest bidder offers and add to that Moss’s rapport with Tom Brady is definitely the best he’s had with any QB in his career. In fact, his relationship with Brady is the best he’s had with any QB by far. There were plenty of stories over the course of last year just based on their relationship so if Moss left for a slight raise it would make him look like an ever bigger blowhard of a jackass than he’s already managed to look like. He’s not leaving Bawstun unless it’s for something colossal or he felt he got really badly lowballed by the Patsies. That, of course, means if we paid Moss something huge, which we really can’t even afford; T.O. would feel slighted if his contract was less lucrative. There’s really nothing left to explain on this one.

However, if he did somehow end up here, I don’t know that even Moss would have the brass to make any veiled references to Romo being oh so inferior to Brady. He would once and for all be labeled a hypocritical jackass because he would have left his soul mate QB Brady for mere greenbacks. It would be too easy for the media to throw this back in his face and tell him to keep his mouth shut because he got paid which it would be all too clear is what he was most interested in the first place.

I’d like to thank all the people that blog her and that lurk here. I’ve been introduced to a lot of great Cowboys fans here and am glad that we boast a product that is as insightful and respected as we have.

    Hopefully we have many more.

    Derrick:

Why should anyone trust the scribes?

Cowboy Homers, Mickey and Nick didn’t think Zach would get signed and surely not for 2 Mill. Mickey thinks everytime Jerry signs a player, he takes a pay cut.

Let us not forget, Jerry has 80,000 brand new seat and 300 luxury suites to sell.

Do you go all in to protect your investment in the new stadium?

This is more then just football to Jerry right now.

    From Pat Kirwan:

Vernon Davis was the highest paid TE, in NFL history. Opps..

Jake Long and Chris Long will vault the players in the league today.

Without a rookie cap, the league will suffer, but the Players don’t care. The current players are more concerned about a Madden tourny then discussing their 401K.

This is Sad and Upshaw will not change the culture.

How could the NFLPA act like boxing?

Maybe this has already been discussed, but I just reviewing some of our Linebacker stats and…

    Akin Ayodele 57 Tackles
    Kevin Burnett 53 Tackles
    Bobby Carpenter 18 Tackles
    Greg Ellis 31 Tackles
    Bradie James 101 Tackles
    Justin Rogers 18 Tackles
    Anthony Spencer 36 tackles
    DeMarcus Ware 84 Tackles

    Zach Thomas 52 Tackles

…and Thomas did it in 5 GAMES!? Akin’s performance looks bad for a starter. Even Carpenter and Rodgers look better given how very limited their playing time was…

Patriots: Tedy Bruschi: 92 Tackles, 2 Sacks
Ravens: Bart Scott: 93 Tackles, 1 Sack

    Charb,

You really want to hurl, look at Donnie Edwards totals in San Diego while Phillips was DC:

    ‘04 - 150
    ‘05 - 152
    ‘06 - 142

    That’s why Thomas was signed.

  33. 33
    CaliFanInTx on February 27th, 2008 8:49 pm

    Charb,

That Willis guy sure looks like a future superstar…no wonder Ray Lewis was speaking so highly of him during the Pro Bowl.

Jeez…the more I analyze this, the more I think Jerry knows what he’s doing…

The signing of Thomas looks like an immediate upgrade to our defense. If he stays to form, he’s gong to be putting up numbers like Willis. Looks the the Boys did their homework.

It gives me some comfort that our front office seems to have a good plan of attack…

  34. 34
    CaliFanInTx on February 27th, 2008 8:55 pm

If wade gets a few tweaks and missing pieces for our defense…I’m thinking we are on the verge of becoming an unstoppable Juggernaut…one where our defense plays up at the same level as our offense.

  36. 36
    redraider1us on February 27th, 2008 9:20 pm

I for one would be shocked if JJ drafted a wr 1st round. This hasnt happend since Alvin Harper i believe. That was how many drafts ago? JJ has made it clear he wont draft a wr early, unless thier is a calvin johnson type to peak his interest and i dont see one in this draft.

We will either use our two 1st to move up for the best corner we can get or if D-Mac falls to 8 or lower he will move up for him.

  38. 38
    CaliFanInTx on February 27th, 2008 9:36 pm

    red,

Agreed. I also remember that Jerry said on a few occasions that the best place to get receivers is through free agency. There’s less risk and no need for a learning curve. Besides we have a couple of “project” wide receivers already…I’m still holding out hope that Stanback is our stretch the field #2 guy.

I think corner and running back would be our first round targets depending on who “falls” to us. I think we trade down again this year if there is no value to be had.
