Pre-Draft Open Thread

Posted: April 26, 2008 @ 12:15 pm

Today is football Christmas !

Were you naughty or nice?

Update, 12: 23 :  ESPN is claiming that the next three picks will be

  • 2. Rams — Chris Long;
  • 3.  Falcons — Matt Ryan;
  • 4.  Raiders — Darren McFadden

Do they know something or will they have egg on their faces in 90 minutes or so?  I’ve heard all week that Glenn Dorsey is the guy the Rams and Falcons both covet and now he’s going to be on the board at five?

The Chiefs will be very happy in that scenario.

if the Cowboys drafted Martellus Bennette you would never miss Fasano. Bennette can block like Jason Witten can, he can match up against interior D-line players, and he’s a fluid, good all around athlete. He played PF for good A&M basketball teams.

    =============

I’m digging that Clemson DE at #22. Any more Spears trade rumors? I don’t think the Cowboys would trade spears unless they were immediately going to draft his replacement as the follow through to the move.

So a 4th and a 6th for Fasano and Ayodele. I can live with that.

Falcons = dumb; I can see the Rams going for Carricker inside + Long outside, as opposed to Dorsey inside, Carricker outside.

dallascowboys.com has by the 167th pick from miami for fergie…

Those picks are the first pick of their respective rounds

It certainly makes it a bit more palatable although overall it was probably a smart move for us. Now lets all hope for some bills like drafts from the people ahead of us.

Mosely made it sound like they were for last nights trade i hope he’s right but maybe i misunderstood.

    cowboykevy on April 26th, 2008 12:38 pm

    Rafael,

    4th and a 6th?

I have only read that it was a 4th…

Did we get our pick back? (the one we swapped with Miami?)

  12. 12
    stoproyce on April 26th, 2008 12:40 pm

I just reread Mosely’s Hasmarks blog entry at espn for thr forth time and he certainly makes it sound like we picked up the 167 as well from this trade.

  13. 13
    cowboykevy on April 26th, 2008 12:43 pm

    So… that was our original 6th then…right?

    CHARB on April 26th, 2008 12:49 pm

    Raf,

    No.

Cowboys moved from 195 to 167 for Fergie and pick 100 for Fasano and Akin.

Any chance of getting a war room feed somewhere on the internet? It would be very interesting seeing Jerry and crew and their scheming.

    maplesyrup on April 26th, 2008 1:03 pm

From the previus thread… I’m calling Sweed with our 1s (if DRC is gone)…

1.) Too much to like about this guy
2.) Some view him as the most ready WR in the draft
3.) Too many decent RBs in the 2nd/3rd rounds to “settle” on Felix.
    4.) Local guy

You heard it here 1st, folks!…
I know I’m probably wrong but DAMN if I’m right, I’ll be quite pleased.

  21. 21
    BishopWest on April 26th, 2008 1:04 pm

One draft board has QB Ryan listed as the 6th overall best player.

Just tryin’ to make the best call here… Obviously JJ will make the better pick (if there is one there) but I’m just trying to make the call in advance for bragging rights… Anyone else out there have the STONES?

I wanna make this thing interesting!!!

    - Bring it!!!!

  29. 29
    AustonianAggie7 on April 26th, 2008 1:11 pm

I’m an A&M homer and I’m pulling for Bennette, and I think Bennette would contribute more quickly than any rookie WR.

The Cowboys though are generally immune to drafting homers; except when they drafted Dat Ngyuen (A&M) and Wayne McGarity (Texas) in 1999.

The Cowboys have the advantage of players wanting to return home to play for Dallas.

honestly, if we can’t get a vet wr with one of those first 2 picks… ican see it happening… since i’ve been following the draft, i can honestly say this is one of the deepest drafts where players we like will fall to the second round for positions we need…

    hardy
    royal
    flowers/cason
    king

all the pics we could get for our first round pics, if we have partners…

i’d love to see us then pick up dt bryant or okam and safety zibby later… i would be thrilled

    STONES, boys. STONES…

This is actually tougher than you would think. JJ is not an easy man to nail down.

    1)Felix
    1a)Tyrell Johnson
    2) Marcellus Bennett
    3)King
    4) C/G
    5)LB
    6)NT
    6a)QB
    7)DE

I would like to redo tomorrows pick tommorrow. This isnt my ideal draft but I think this is what we end up doing if we dont trade. I really think a few trades oare in order but who can predict that.

trade down and out of the 1st?!?
    Why?
What’s the point of the trade last year, why bother gettiing 2 1st rounders?

We need talent at a LOT of positions-here’s a chance to get 2 good players in one year.

    csheik,
I’m thinking JJ will trade out of #22 into the high 2nd round + another (lower) pick. JJ loves this kind of horse trading…makes for a long draft day. Sometimes works (2007), sometimes doesn’t so much (2004, etc).

  59. 59
    pecos_slim on April 26th, 2008 1:49 pm

We won’t be able to grab Jenkins without moving up.

ok jw what u think he would do

  61. 61
    Fighter15 on April 26th, 2008 1:49 pm

If a vet is available, that’s one. The other will be for multiple 2nds or a 2nd and next year’s #1.

Norm was just chatting with Goose Gosselin, who stated that this was (overall) a very weak draft…that Jerry wants out of the first…that offense is the strength of this draft (mainly OT).

Then Norm quoted an unnamed source after noticing that Goose had taken Manningham (scout’s pet cat) off his top 100 list and the source said “he’s a slow, short, dumb WR, that smokes dope and has a bad attitude…other than that, what’s not to like”

Some mocks still have us taking him in the 2nd.
