4th Round Live Blogging
Posted: April 27, 2008 @ 10:56 am
12:45 — The Morning News guys are still begging Rashard Mendenhall to take them back, even though he’s in Pittsburgh now. One of them says Choice would not have been needed had Dallas drafted Super Rashard yesterday.
What ever. The Cowboys always carry three backs. Marion Barber was the only back on their roster on Friday. (Alonzo Coleman doesn’t count as an NFL running back.) They were going to draft another back today even with Felix Jones. Jerry said they were going to take another back today in his after draft presser yesterday. It’s on the team web site. (scroll down to short shorts)
Why are those guys acting surprised?
12:00 — The Cowboys select RB Tashard Choice. My 4th rounder comes through.
11:53 — Dallas on deck again. Seattle takes Red Bryant one spot ahead of Dallas’ pick. D’oh!
11:22 — The Cowboys trade again! With the Browns! The Cowboys get Cleveland’s 3rd in ‘09. Not bad. Dallas now has an extra 3rd and 4th next year. Preparing a package for a veteran?
11:19 — The Bears are on the clock. Dallas is on deck - again.
11:02 — The Browns trade up into Dallas’ spot and take ILB Beau Bell. Dallas now picks at 111 and 122.
Dallas gets Cleveland’s 5th, replacing the pick lost in the Mike Jenkins’ deal. Looking for compensation from the Raiders trade down.
10:55 — The Packers are picking at 102. The Cowboys are two spots away.

Make a damn pick man.
I’ve changed my mind. We don’t need another WR or anything like that. We need to draft CB Orlando Scandrick. We need to have at least 10 dang CB’s on the team for when the Giants and Redskins come to town. I can see Manning drooling right now when Burress, Toomer, Shockey, Smith, and Manningham get lined up. If we have 10 DB’s we can put at least 2 on each WR. That’ll show em!!!
more trades
damn it jerry wtf are you doing?!!!??
I guess we don’t need anybody else.
I think Jerry’s getting cute again.
Ed Werder just said that they didn’t draft Mendenhall because he couldn’t beat out Pierre Thomas a year ago. His work ethic was questionable as a backup.
ANOTHER GODDANGED TRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fire the torches up and get the mob headed on the way to Valley Ranch.
If we get Bryant with our next pick I’m good
this is getting annoying
Let’s just trade away the rest of the draft and focus on 2009. WTF?
Looks like we got Oakland’s 7th round (#213?). Hopefully something next year as well - otherwise bad value.
This is ridiculous. I already know what he’s thinking. Oh, a 4th round pick probably can’t make the team. Then why pick anyone?? Bring em in and let them compete for jobs. We’ve got a good team but it’s not so great that some of our rotational guys can’t be beat out. There’s some dang good players that were still on the board and we let them just go by.
Monk
Bryant is still there.
I just read on the DMN blog that MB3 hasn’t been working out with his teammates??? And that he may hold out because we drafted a RB?? His agent says it’s not true but now I’m wondering. I hate to belabor the point but if Mendenhall had been the pick then MB3 would have WAY less leverage.
BTW, the Chiefs are having a HELL of a draft this year. After years of sucking at it.
BTW 2, what’s up with all the CPU usage crap?? It’s happening after every post I make.
trade
100 bucks we trade this one….anyone?
What another trade??? I get it heres our “WOW”
You’ve got to be kidding me.
We traded again. Fu** me running…………………………………….
A third for next year!!! YESSSSS
I think Matt Millen agreed with Jerryn that if we give him 24 7th rounds picks, he’ll give us Roy Williams…..and yes, another trade
This is now beyond rediculous.
I’m hitting the links again. Y’all tell me what I missed.
More bandwith is needed here, Raf and Raul. This is painful!
nxt yrs 3rd from the browns
We have an extra third and fourth next year.
I was about to post that we had two 4ths, a 5th, a 6th, and a 7th as a result of the trades, but then we traded again. So I don’t know what we have now. Maybe a partridge in a pear tree. Sh**.
What are we doing trying to set another record fr the only team that ever collected all picks in the 7th round?
Jerry is a tool.
Me too. F this. I’m headed to the gym.
After that I’m going to eat where I’ll order a steak then trade down to a burger right before that T-Bone arrives.
this is just painful….
Bryant is still on the board.
As much as I really was wanting Mendenhall, I was kind of wondering why he couldn’t beat out Thomas.
I’ve always thought that Mendenhall might have made alot of money off of one game.
Eh, who knows. Hope Felix will be good, or it’ll be Steven Jackson all over again.
cormanman would have made me spit out my drink if i had been drinking
NO WR
Good one cormanman
Post 30….. jajajaja….unbelievable.
Kam, LOL!!! Im laughing at all of your posts. I keep tryng to respond but that damm CPU is full.
I wanted a bigger back for leverage and the future. MBIII is great but he knows he needs to break the bank. The way he runs he wont be in the league long.
Jerry should just trade all the picks every year. That way, at some draft in the future, we will have like a 100 picks.
Jerry thinks “wheeling and dealing” is an end in itself, not a means to an end. He seems to get too cute at some point in every draft. I haven’t given up hope yet, but this is starting to get a little ridiculous.
Cormanman, LOL!! You guys are really funny when your mad. I hope we trade down again.
I like what the Cowboys are doing right now. I’m bummed that they let G McGlynn slip by them, but there is still plenty on the board for the Cowboys to pick from.
when’s our next pick?
123
sorry
next pick 122
Squid,
I’m just disappointed I guess. Tomorrow morning I’ll be telling the guys at work that we had the best draft ever and that Felix Jones is actually a Marshall Faulk clone.
Next years 1 and a 3 and a 4 for Roy Williams?
adrian…..wana bet? be we give tis one to Arizona
Like we will really make a pick at 123…I heard we are going to trade down to 150 for a sack of White Castles
the guys on the ticket brought up a point..jerry’s been trying to get a vet wr…we have a 1strd 2nd rd…2 3’s…2 4’s…now we could move our no.1 a 3 and a 4..for a wr….and still have a 2..3 and 4…possible? maybe…
Are Justin King and Bryant still available?
post 47
lol
king’s gone..
48 - and then walk around skidrow handing them out to the hungry hobos
king is gone and bryant is still available
Thanks Jerry - Had to go make pancakes (breakfast, not blocks) here on the West Coast (landmark, not offence).
Now I know why Jerry’s been making so many trades. He’s filming a commercial right now in the war room. Jeez….
http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/04/jerrys-filming-a-commercial.html
I heard Jerry “smoke some more” Jones just traded the next pick to the future owners of the L.A. franchise for their 2022 third round pick. AWSOME! He is brilliant!!!!!!!
They must have a NT they like more than Bryant, they keep passing on him.
I am very bumbed about passing on Manningham, I wanted him in the late 2nd.
Passing on Manningham was frustrating. Dallas needs a young WR, and he could be the steal of the draft AT THE END OF ROUND 3. If he gets his head on, he could be a pro bowl player some day. Now, we get to play him twice a year.
Chris Carter doesn’t know what he is talking about. Carter was a bust in Philadelphia. Manningham ran a low time of 4.38 at his pro day. He was a second team All-American. He runs good routes, he has good hands, he gets separation at the line and in the open field. Go look at his stats. He needs mental focus all the time. Listening to Carter, you would think he was a no name player.
If those two NT prospects come off the board before we pick, Jerry Jones will be second guessed. I see several teams picking ahead of us which might jump on Bryant or Rubin. It is past time for them to come off the board.
Picking Felix Jones over Mendenahall was a smart and sound move. Felix Jones isn’t a “backup” running back. I have never seen such a great player get smashed like this. It is ridiculous.
Why is Dallas the only team trading down every time they get on the clock?
Hawkins at WR actually interests me. Burtin from Kentucky too.
And if you think you’re frustrated about what we’re doing at WR, people are going to skewer the Titans for failing to get VY a decent receiver.
Look at what the essential outcome of the wheelings and dealings.
Gone: A 3rd, Anthony Fasano, Akin Ayodele.
Arrived: Pacman Jones, a 3 and a 4 for next year.
I think that’s how it works out, I left my TI-85 at work, so I can’t be sure.
But what are we complaining about?
nfl.com sucks
I was talking about many in the media’s attitude about Felix Jones.
Marshall Faulk loves him. He said he has great vision, sees the crease, gets small, hits the crease very fast and explodes.
Mayock loves Felix Jones as well.
Damn!… Moore is off the board (just noticed)… Bryant or Bust!
How about the WR from Oklahoma State? What is his name again…Bowman?
Last year after the CLE trade, I immediately thought we’d get D-Mac and Manningham in the first.
So I liked him. I could even over look the potheadedness, the slow combine time, and the SIX on the Wonderlic… However, Manningham didn’t show up to his interview with Jerry at the combine.
At that point, he was off the board.
I do like getting all those picks next year. WR and NT are the real areas of concern in which we are ignoring need.
Beagles just took Demps. He was a guy that would have fit it well with Dallas.
every time a team passes on Red i am counting our blessings
Sam,
I liked Quinton Demps too. I thought he’d have a chance to be a starting FS very early. Great ball skills. Now he’ll be trying to pick off Romo for the next few years.
By 2009, Felix Jones can be at least a 20 carry guy. This notion that he is made of glass or isn’t tough enough to run between the tackles is ridiculous.
He doesn’t go down easily. He avoids people in the second level and gets big plays. When his space closes, he lowers his shoulders and gets what he can.
We dont really have a backup, we have half of a rotation. Though it wont be half and half(not dairy product) till Felix(the Rb not cat) gets more up to speed(quickness not drugs) on blocking and the playbook.
Tighthead, just a homage to your last post. I liked it.
Please tell me that Jerry is working on packaging picks for a receiver.
Seattle then us and Bryant is still there!
Thor - Jerry is working on packaging picks to film a commercial.
post 62
agree with you
If I’m picking right now, I’m going with either:
G–Schuening
FB–Hillis
NT–Bryant
OUCH
Ugh
bryant gone damn it!!!!
gone?
Frank Okam?
figures
Red Bryant just got took!!! Jeez!!!!!!!!
Bye, Red Bryant.
LOL
now who?
another trade?
Nooooo! Bryant is gone just before our pick.
According to nfl.com, the Broncos drafted absolutely nobody at 119. Maybe they would trade him for #31/38.
Go figure. Might as well trade the pick now.
Well with Bryant gone we can always try something new & trade down….
Dammit… That stung.
Wow. I love Tashard Choice. He’s got starting ability IMO. I like the pick, just don’t like the way we went about it.
JJ got cute and got burned here…
Choice was not the choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Raf,
I am impressed with your pick calling. You are truly prescient!!
We needed a RB to replace TT last year. It was painfully obvious early on that only MB3 was sticking around. Drafting two RBs in the first four rounds is evidence of poor roster planning.
Still need another CB, WR, a safety, maybe a NT, ILB….we can pick them up next year, again one year too late.
Raf is in the zone
Jerry is working on a trade for a Veteran WR. Yesterday, when describing Anthony Henry, he called him “Chris.”
Slip of the tongue, or are we signing him, or trading for his former teammate, Ocho Cinco?
This would explain the reluctance to draft a WR.
The selection of Tashard Choice may mean a trade of MBIII?
How would a staight up trade with the Bengals sound?
MBIII for Ocho Cinco?
With the Lions?
MBIII for Roy Williams?
Hmmm……
It sounds like Romo would get steamrolled while our rookie HBs missed their blocks.
There is still Okam to pick as a 3-4 NT, if he lasts till the next Dallas selection. Carl Nicks and Tony Hills are both still on the board too. It might be worth a sixth rd pick to take a flyer on Tommy Blake since he is Dallas area prospect and Jerry is in the reclamation business.
sounds like crap to me.
That Choice pick was aimed at Barber’s agent. Rafeal called it, too.
Could Barber be put in a package for Chad Johnson. They need a running back.
With all the weapons coming into the division, some of them are bound to hit.
Dallas better hope they can pull Chad Johnson out of the Jungle. They are hurting at WR behind Owens and Crayton.
We can take Pacman but pass on Manningham. I don’t get it.
Tighthead.. I agree. this is what happens when a cheerleader who thinks he knows football buys and runs our favorite football team. I dislike JJ so much. I wish I did not love the Cowboys as much as I do .. I dont think I would follow them anymore
now we must pray for okam or rybin, i liked them better anyway.
Cowboys are really looking to have a great running game, upgrading the blocking with Bennett and picking up two RBs who look like they can really contribute
Ahtyba Rubin, from Iowa State, is a good looking NT prospect. He is strong and can stuff the run. He could rotate in this year.
Man, I wanted Rubin or Bryant. There is no way Rubin lasts until our next pick. Harrison was good, too, but he was a big character risk.
I’m tired of Brandon Jacobs falling forward for three and four yards.
Austin if that is true our next pick is a full back.
Maybe the Cowboys think having a dominant running game at the end of the playoff game would of helped them win even more than better WRs
Burton is gone, no wide reciever for us.
it might be, there are good FBs in the draft. People have knocked FB play in college but there are several, including another Aggie and a dude from arkansas
Yeah don’t even bother at WR a this point.
The FB from Arkansas is my choice.
I like Lavelle Hawkins, but the Titans drafted three WRs last year None of them came out of the first two rounds.
They are still drafting them.
What does that tell you about drafting them only in the later rounds?
a strong running game? The Cowboys line has not opened many holes (other then late in the game agaisnt a tired D) in two years.
Looks like the Cowboys are going to hope that Glenn comes back like they did all last year. If TO goes down it will be a long season
It sure would be nice to have someone like Ahmad Bradshaw on the roster, with a full year of seasoning. Tyson T should have been given a ham sandwich and a bus ticket in August. We are replacing him at least a year too late, especially when you consider that it was 50-50 before last season started that JJ was gone. An entire year’s roster spot wasted.
Tighthead, T Thompson w3as our best option at kick returner at the start of last season.
Pac Man is dion like, and Jenkins is somewhere between Pac man and Thompson. We will have better field position this year.
I can’t get my head wrapped around the Choice selection… Bad, Bad, Bad move, IMO.
I think JJ was flustered with Bryant gone and thru a dart on the wall and hit Choice…. Lucky for you, Raf.
I’m rooting for Okam at our next pick. I’m like Scout. I’m tired of RB’s falling forward for a few yards. Lets clog up the middle of our line now. We’ll have both of our lines, the trenches, stacked and ready to rumble.
A third best option at KR who has no future at RB needs that bus ticket. We got no contribution from him last year and he may not have dressed after the middle of October.
Cowboys line was awesome when the runners had vision and were patient behind their blockers.
Julius was very bad at that. These two picks at RB and MBIII display great vision, which I think may be the most important indicator of success, given how the cowboys offense is run.
I think Cricket will be a good FB though, I haven’t written him off. I think rookies especially at spots like his just get injured until they get stronger and better technique.
Steve Johnson, Mario Urrtia, and Marcus Monk are still out there.
At least two of them could make our team better. I can dream.
maplesyrup,
Our system REQUIRES two players. Right now we have F. Jones and M. Barber. If one of them gets hurt who plays?
Answer: T. Choice.
Frankly it was a solid, solid pick.
Now, I don’t agree with trading down so much and to me missing out on Bryant was asinine. But given that he was gone Choice was good.
IMO our biggest needs of the day were RB (yes, still) and NT.
We could still use an OLB, a C/G, another DB, and a developmental QB.
Obviously WR is a need but what are you going to get in the last 3 rounds that will fill a need?
Scout
Jerry Jones said initially that he did not believe the WRs in this draft were better than the ones he had. This included Manningham I guess. Pacman was another case entirely. We NEEDED corners and Pacman was available for a cheap price.
I, for one think Jerry is doing a good job. He gets Pacman and Tashard Choice for 2 #4s. He just protected his team and salary cap from MBIII enormous demands. He gets Pacman and Jenkins and protects himself from Newman leaving. He has added extra picks for next year that can be used in a trade for a FA wide receiver or to replace other players if needed. He also gets a beast of a tightend and Felix Jones to help in the running game and return game which were areas of need. What do you want from the guy?
You know, the Colts worked out Manningham. Marvin Harrison’s knee is a big question mark.
Tony Dungy is a pretty fair guy. If he passed on a talent like Manningham late in the third round, especially with all the Big Ten players they draft, Manningmam must really have serious problems.
This is a youtube of Chris Alexander, a FB from A&M. It’s a pretty cool highlight package of blocks
Jerod Mayo lit Tamme up this year.
cormanman,
IMO, you go and sign an undrafted player as a backup… Or stick with TT… I could be wrong.
I simply do not see any value with this pick.
stupid (sorry, can’t sugat-coat it) - period.
that said, I like eveything else JJ had done to this point in his selections and stockpiling of picks for next year.
maplesyrup: it’s like Pittsburg’s superbowl year, rolling with three running backs having 100 yard games
I didn’t like the Felix Jones pick when it happened, but with a workhorse back like Choice on the roster, I like the Jones pick, now.
Don’t buy a Barber Jersey because Rosenjerk will price him out of Dallas next year.
Thanks, MBIII…
I’ll need more convincing then that!
It looks like we have 3 picks left, one in each of the last 3 rounds. How about Ahyta Rubin (DT), Roy Schuenig (OG), and Josh Johnson (Q)?
That fullback looks good, Aggie.
I’m with Cormanman. I would have taken a WR if I was Jerry, and I was hoping for Bryant, but that doesn’t mean Choice is a bad player. I know I’ve said this so much that people are sick of it but of all the RB’s at the Senior Bowl, IMO Choice was the best. I was VERY impressed with him. I really do think he has starting ability. Solid pick. Now for Okam!!!
So if Barber is hurt you want an undrafted FA carrying the rock 15+ times per game?
I understand your opinion, but don’t share it. Let’s agree to disagree.
IMO Jerry has taken two weaknesses and created positions of strength (RB, CB).
We clearly still have needs and IMO are at serious risk depth-wise on a couple of positions, but you can’t have a steak on every plate.
Good point Charb. I’ve got my Choice jersey already ordered!!!
cormanman, you make a good point.
Kam
I think Choice and Jones are the 1-2 punch in 09.
Mike Jenkins reminds me of a faster version of Asante Samuel.
The Patriots really liked him. It was no secret.
Jenkins is a CB who has the abiltiy to play some safety.
If you want to get him on the field more in passing situations, I bet he can play back there with ease.
So, going forward biggest needs:
1) NT & WR
2) C/G & Safety, maybe FB
3) OLB & Developmental QB
Am I missing anything?
cormanman,
ok, we agree to disagree…
however, i do agree with you on your statement;
“Jerry has taken two weaknesses and created positions of strength (RB, CB).”…
Letting Matt Moore go last year was a mistake. More poor roster management.
I agree on Choice. He did it in college on a one dimensional team. Georgia Tech can’t pass the ball worth a crap.
hmmm, does the Choice pick make Barber trade bait to land a reciever?… Nobody is talking about that possibility…
maplesyrup,
Because no such WR is available. You gonna make one out of clay?
maplesyrup:
Maybe, but I have a difficult time thinking, Jerry will position the Cowboys for a Super Run with two rookie RB’s.
Super Bowl Run
i dont know why everyone thinks this red bryant guy is so good. choice is a good pick, rb not a problem in foreseeable future. Mendenhall might be awesome, but weren´t people starting to argue that jones can add 10-15 lbs and become a full time runner. if he does that´ll be sweet, if he doesnt, he still has good vison and is fast built like dorsett. we wont really know until they start playing. vison is the number one factor for success in the nfl. i feel confident every rb on our team now has good vision
you guys are probably right… just trying to find reason to the Choce selection… Still can’t find much… Sorry.
i know, I’m not making myself popular here with my anti-Choice sentement…
I think all you guys whining over a wr need to get real. There was not one wr in this draft that could beat out Crayton or Herd, Austin for that matter. They all got valueable time last year and will only get better. Are you forgetting that this recieving core went 13-3 last year without Glenn?
I dont think JJ is done. Be patient and lets see if he dont get us a real vet wr that can acually help this year.
Look, the Detroit papers are giving Millen the business for turning Jerry down. It’s clear Dallas tried.
Cincy turned down a damn good offer from Washington. They’re not moving Johnson.
Arizona might move Boldin but don’t expect anything until training camp, when he or another one of these players can hold out.
I like the picks and I think Jerry gets bashed unfairly. How many owners have the success he has had since getting the Cowboys.
He gets no credit for the Dallas 90’s dynasty. He gets all the blame for the hits that team took when the salary cap took effect. Now he gets no credit for helping Dallas become an elite team once again. I, for one, am grateful we have a proactive owner interested in fiedling the best team he can. He also puts his money where his mouth is.
Dallas is 13-3 and talented. You complainers can’t be satisfied! Throughout the NFL’s history, very few teams have nailed an entire draft class - when you do, you’re lucky.
How many people would retract their complaints if Jerry packaged some of next year’s picks to get a Roy Williams type WR?
Orlando Scandrick/CB just picked. Any thoughts on him?
We move up to take another CB???
Re: #148… lol
I am Pro-Choice.
Whoa…dallas traded up for a CB
Charb,
You could be right. I do like Choice. No doubt about it.
maplesyrup,
We’ve got all different types of opinions on this site. You don’t have to be pro-Choice if you don’t want to.
Okam would make sense
Anthony Henry may have a new position.
Roy the spot light just a lot brighter, if that’s possible.
Nice move
Tighthead, your bitching about 3rd string running backs and undrafted FA QBs. No offense, but your X chromesome is exerting itself. Please turn up the Y.
Jevans1729,
If you believe all the WRs in this draft are better than Austin and Hurd, you shouldn’t believe everything Jerry Jones says.
Austin and Hurd better than Manningham?
See post 124 about passing on Manningham
I have defended the Felix Jones pick and praised Jerry Jones for that pick.
Dallas has nothing behind Owens and Crayton at WR. The Titans wouldn’t even take those scrubs.
O.K.
Stanback better not be a healthy scratch at any point this season. How soon you contribute is almost as important as what you contribute.
I am excited about seeing Jones on screen passes and things of that nature. I think the comparison to Tiki Barber is a pretty good one.
I think overall that Dallas has had a good draft. Jenkins at 25 was a complete steal, and the fact that he can play safety makes him even more worthwhile.
I also think that Dallas has suddenly went from a team with no secondary depth, to one of the better secondary’s if Pacman is reinstated.
Saw that we got Scandrick. He was another value pick. We’re going to need at least 7 CB’s to cover all the WR’s in the NFC East alone.
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/cb/orlandoscandrick.html
Scout - Austin and Hurd should be challenged this training camp. They have done too little for too long. They consistently underwhelmed when given chances last year.
Churn, churn, churn.
Wow, am I going to be able to post? We have Bandwith?
Jerry will trade for a veteran WR.
Please allow me to toot my own horn here.
I speculated a few days ago that the best way for us to fill the FS position would be to convert a corner. Well, now I’d bet you a big bill that’s what we’re going to do.
I love it. We have some serious options in the secondary.
Our #1 need coming in to this draft has been addressed.
I wonder what we gave up to move up a few spots?
kameleon,
thanks for the vote of confidence…
sierrareef,
i mean no disrespect to JJ… he’s defenitly ‘da man!… no disrespect to Choice either, he seems ok… just not in the 4th round with so many other better players of value available (IMO)
I said it was a draft where we went for skill. So far it has come to pass. The only way we get a decent veteran WR is a training camp hold out. Why would a team want to take next years draft picks when they can play the whole season with the guy and then trade him next year for the same draft picks.
we swapped 5th rd picks and gave them our 7th rounder to get the DB.
There were WRs in this draft that could have helped out Crayton for sure. Dallas didn’t pick them. Limas Sweed is a deep threat outside the hashes and a big target.
Having said that, I am happy with our first round and I like Choice.
Tighthead 163
I agree. However, it looks unlikely.
cormanman,
You’re absolutely right. The last couple of years all we’ve heard was about how the Cowboys might try to move Henry to FS. Might this finally be the year?? I think so. We’ve just added 3 CB’s to our roster in Scandrick, Adam Jones, and Jenkins who all run in the 4.3’s. Youth, speed, and ability. Henry’s the slowest DB on the team behind Roy now.
Roy, better get your favorite spot on the bench warmed up. You’re going to need it.
I like the approach of getting insurance pics for their primary draft focus. RB and CB are covered. I hope we get at least a NT with our remaining pics.
Wow!… Suddenly, the ‘boys are an embarassment of wealth in the backfield!
CB1 - Newman
CB2 - A. Jones
CB3 - Jenkins
CB4 - Scandrick or Ball
SS - Hamlin
FS - Henry
That’s our dime package.
Depth - Williams, C. Brown, Watkins, Ogelsby
Gentlemen, we now have the deepest and most talented defenisve backfield in the NFL (assuming a reinstated Jones and a healthy Henry).
Now, before you strain your fingers bitching on the blog, keep in mind that depth is critical to us becase two of our top four DBs are huge risks. Jones could be gone at any time and Henry is the definition of “injury prone”.
Jerry was very wise to get us insurance. He focused on positions where rookies have an excellent chance of making an immediate impact (RB, and CB).
He avoided a muddled wide receiver field, which is also a position where players are notorious for contributing little their first two season.
Clearly we need a WR in a bad way, but it is also clear that we didn’t see anyone here that blew us over.
170 They have done too little for too long. They do not deserve incumbent status.
Hurd, Austin, Stanback : to me, these guys must come through for the Cowobys to be successful this year. When our starters come off the field we just can’t afford to forget the passing game. Our offense would be awsome-plus with consistacny coming off the bench. It’s time for Hurd and Austin to breakout, and Stanback to begin to contribute.
