Taylor Dancing Onto the Cowboys’ Radar?
Posted: May 30, 2008 @ 9:19 pm
Jerry Jones employed Dancing With the Stars champion Emmitt Smith. Might he be entertaining thoughts of trading for the latest DWTS finalist?
The NFL Network’s Adam Schefter lists Dallas as one of five teams considering a deal for Dolphins DE/OLB Jason Taylor. Schefter writes:
Of all the potential landing spots, none is more intriguing than Dallas. It is a longshot, granted, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones never can be ruled out. The Cowboys have debated the merits of trading for Taylor and they already hold additional draft picks in 2009 -– Cleveland’s in the third round, Detroit’s in the fourth. Dallas could decide to package picks and/or a disgruntled player such as defensive end Greg Ellis or safety Roy Williams that former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells knows well.
Dallas knows its loaded at defensive end now with Ellis, Demarcus Ware and last year’s first-round pick, Anthony Spencer. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones never bypasses big-name, talented players such as Taylor. He has thought about the possibility of Taylor in Dallas and, despite the long odds, could wind up taking action.
Let’s parse Schefter’s passage. First, he’s one of the better information guys around, so when he writes that the organization has discussed Taylor we can be sure it has happened.
Next, he lists Philadelphia as one of the possible suitors. Keeping Taylor away from a division rival could be as much a spur for the Dallas brass as adding Taylor on its own merits.
Next, there’s the combination of Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland and the headache-for-headache factor. We know that Jones is not swayed by Greg Ellis’ paranoid ramblings but would he swap Ellis for Taylor?
Consider these factoids:
- Greg Ellis is 32, Jason Taylor is 33.
- Ellis had a career-high 12.5 sacks last year, his first in double digits.
- Taylor has averaged 12.9 sacks the last six seasons. He has six double-digit sack seasons.
Some people point to the Dolphins’ 1-15 ‘07 and imply that Taylor is losing his edge. I’m not so sure. He had 11.0 sacks last year. His unit certainly collapsed, dropping from 4th in yards allowed in ‘06 to 23rd in ‘07. That was due to injuries and a horrible rush defense. Miami’s pass defense rating remained steady, actually rising from 5th in ‘06 to 4th last year. The rush defense, however dropped from 8th in ‘06 to 32nd last year.
Taylor was one of the few Dolphins defenders still playing hard last year. And let’s not forget his stellar ‘06, when he won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award. K.C. Joyner wrote this of Taylor’s campaign in Scientific Football ‘07:
One of the joys of watching tapes is when you come across a phenomenal player. I always find watching ’80s Giants games fun because I can’t wait to see Lawrence Taylor put an asskicking on some other player. When Taylor was on his game, he was unstoppable and it made for compelling viewing.
I had been waiting impatiently for such a player to show up on tape the first three years that I broke down, but I never saw one. Dwight Freeney came close to reaching the LT level in 2004 but he wasn’t quite that dominant. I had begun to think that phenoms such as LT were extinct until I saw Jason Taylor play last year.
Taylor was capable of winning a game all by himself. Just look at some of his performances last year:
- Week 7 versus Green Bay — had three tackles, three forced fumbles and two sacks in the first quarter alone;
- Week 9 versus Chicago — had an interception return for a touchdown, a sack, a forced fumble and two passes defensed;
- Week 10 versus Kansas City — made a great play to get into the passing lane near the Chiefs’ goal line to get his hands on a pass. He dropped the interception but it was still a phenomenal read of the play and one that most defensive ends couldn’t make.
- Week 11 versus Minnesota — Got into the passing lane again, this time with the Dolphins up 17-13 late in the 4th quarter but with the Vikings on Miami’s 47 yard line with 3:39 left. He made the pick this time and returned it for a touchdown… As if this wasn’t enough, he also got a sack and knocked down a pass on Minnesota’s next drive.
- Week 12 at Detroit — He didn’t put a sack on the board in this game, but he still was able to draw a 15-yard facemask penalty and a 10-yard illegal-use-of-hands penalty due to his pass rushing.
And the events listed aren’t a full accounting of what he did last year. They do show that by midseason, Taylor was playing at a level that only the greatest players ever reach.
The evidence would make a swap for Taylor seem like a no-brainer. His pass defense numbers in ‘06 would make any of the Cowboys’ corners jealous. But there is this factor called the salary cap. Taylor is due $7.5 million in ‘08. Greg Ellis is due far less and the Cowboys may figure that they’re getting far more bang for their buck putting up with Greg’s pouting.
Still, there’s a big part of me that would love to see Dallas fleece Bill Parcells for his stubborn and to my mind silly decision to shun Taylor last month when the player tried to visit his new GM. Why? Because he’s dancing on a TV show? Is Parcells one of those Norman Mailer-esque old schoolers who think a player loses his purple mojo if he goes (gasp) ballroom dancing!? And does the manly Tuna — who made time in his busy Valley Ranch schedule for regular hair dye jobs — fear his masculinity will suffer if he lets Taylor in the same room?
To quote that man expert Peggy Bundy — the mind wobbles.
If the Cowboys could also get out from under Roy Williams’ contract and make him the Akin Ayodele in a second two-for-one Dolphins deal, I’d slip on my soft shoes and stroll a little myself.
And you know you would too.
Accelerated signing bonuses make exceptions for no team, however, so I’m going to second Schefter and rate any Jason Taylor-to-Dallas deal as a longshot. (sigh) A fan can dream, can’t he? I’ll take a QB-sacking dancer over two pouters any day.

Schefter has been wrong before so frankly I do not put a whole lot into his report.
In that report he claims the boys have debated trading for Taylor. Really. I bet there have been debates about trading for Merriman and Haynesworth, and so on. Means nothing. Idle talk in fantasy land.
The big cap hit is something that the Boys just cannot afford right now. That alone shoots this down. The amount of jockying and reworking other contracts would be massive. And the biggest arguement against this is the fact that in a year we are going to have to resign Ware which WILL cost a mint. We are going to put ourselves further into a hole signing a big contract with a 33 year old DE? When that huge signing is looming? One could say that Jerrah was desperate for another ring and would try anything but this would be so extreme as to be stupid.
As regards BP he is perfectly acting to type as he always has. What did taylor think was going to be his reaction when instead of showing that he was totally dedicated in trying to get the team back to respectablilty at least he is dancing? After a 1-15 season? If one is supposed to be a leader you are supposed to lead. That is not leadership to me at all. And knowing how hard core BP is when taking over a disaster area like the fins are now one can only thinkg that it was deliberate on taylors part to antagonize him- unless he is stupid enough to think that would not happen?
LOL!
Dancing is obviously a dividing line for many men on this issue.
The Dolphins have not started their offseason workouts yet.
What is Taylor supposed to be doing? Spotting every guy in the weight room and screaming, in a gruff manly voice, “come on, dude! One more! You can do it!”
More rah-rah Hollywood bullshit. And TAYLOR is taking guff for “being Hollywood?” Too funny.
Doesn’t *performance* count for anything? He’s the best player on that defense and played like it but that doesn’t count because Bill Parcells is offended by dancing? Bill Parcells, who fell asleep in ‘04 during a training camp dye job and woke up with yellow hair?
Sorry, but Parcells is acting like a high schooler on this one. And the latent homophobia on this story is so thick you can clear cut it with a chainsaw. The only reason Parcells isn’t taking more guff is because so much of the football press won’t criticize his childishness.
Wow, I think I might actually be in agreement with Tex on something.
::shudders at the thought of agreeing with Tex::
It is slightly moronic to hold dancing in such disregard, but I think the bigger issue is obviously the salary camp implications. I’m no expert, but I think it would have to be a two-for-one swap. Am I correct in thinking that both Williams and Taylor would come off the books in the same year?
We’d just have to hope that Ireland was one of those GMs someones (Raf’s?) scout said would take him in a heartbeat.
Raf:
You realize that somehow you had a post on here that included Football, Dancing with the Stars, and Peggy Bundy.
Amazing.
Raf:
On a serious note, how open would Taylor be to converting to an OLB role?
AFB,
You see all those passes defensed and interceptions Taylor had in ‘06?
Dom Capers was his DC. He played in a hybrid system. He’s played A LOT as a 3-4 OLB already.
Aaaaah, I did not know that. Makes sense however. Thanks man.
Isnt Jason Taylor a little too much like Ware? I mean dont we need a run stopper at the other OLB spot, or is JT good against the run? The thing that comes to mind is the argument against picking Manny Lawson a in 2006, that he was too much like Ware and wouldnt be strong enough against the run.
If Tuna is anything, he is coldly calculating and shrewd. He’s a fox. He is very deliberate in his machinations. It is obvious to me that BP is manipulating Jason Taylor into demanding a trade so he can parlay that asset into ones that are more desirable for his 3-year team reclamation project. JT is toast within 2 years and doesn’t fit into Tuna’s plans, so that svelt, yellow-haired Jersey boy is gonna get what he wants.
He’s an extraordinary team rebuilder.
pecos slim,
So why doesn’t Parcells simply say, “we’re rebuilding and JT doesn’t fit into our long-term plans” and put him on the block?
He can do that and be every bit as shrewd and calculating without being a dick. Taylor came to visit him and Parcells refused to speak to him.
That’s bush league and unnecessary.
Does he have much left in the tank after that ass-whipping Kristi Yamaguchi put on him, though?
She really cleaned the floor with him-besides the toll on his body, his psyche may be irrepairrably damaged, too.
Besides the Cap, you also have to look at color schemes. The “Dancing” people did a great job with the teal, or aqua, color the Dolphins use in one dance. Jason looked very good in that.
I’m not sure he’s going to want to move into the harsher, more ‘wintry’, blue and silver of the Boys.
Although, the Star is a nice complementary feature!.
“irreparably”
That’s hard to spell!
I remember Randy White taking ballet lessons (he thought it would help his balance) as well as karate lessons (to improve his hand work in fighting off blocks). I don’t remember anyone calling Randy White a sissy.
By the way, I met Tom Rafferty at a convention (he sells sporting goods now) and asked him who was the meanest player he ever played against. Without hesitation he said Randy White. He clarified by saying, not dirty, just mean, unstoppable, powerful, relentless.
Sign up now for your ballet lessons.
Randy White purchased a gay bar or formerly a gay bar and turned it into his steakhouse in Dallas I believe……somewhere in texas.
I don’t think anyone called him a sissy then either. Manster sure.
Taylor for RW and GE. I like Taylor……but I think his stock is lower than two starters for one. Especially given that he may not even play football again. He had lunch with Denzel Washington and was invited to a meeting with Al Pacino……and skipped it to show up late for Dancing with the Stars.
I guess if Jason was more like Lawerence Taylor and blowing eight balls up his nostrils all night that would qualify him as a better LEADER that Parcells would then accept????
Also there is no bad blood between Jason and Zach…..Zach went out to the dancing with the stars even to visit Jason.
I like Taylor in a cowboys uniform………I just say give BP Bobby Carpenter instead of Greg Ellis.
Raf, we just will have to agree to disagree.
Taylor seems to have no problem not appearing to want to lead the team back from incredible incompetence. Sure maybe BP could have stood up and said I don’t want him. But why should he? His way has worked 4 times before in rebuilding teams and why change what works. Just because you don’t like him means nothing.
And that whole homo thing= just pathetic on your part.
Off subject (and thankfully, the trade rumor is fluff and the homophobia is inane), but I just read my morning Cowboys news. Bloggingtheboys.com, a very decent site was listed as the 39th most valuable blogs.
Now Halprin & Co. do a nice job, but no way do they have the traffic and content that this blog gives. Wonder why RV2 is not well above most in the blog valuation?
Raf, RE: Parcells in #10 above
I think he has a 2nd motive in shutting down Jason Taylor the way he did. Not only did he plan to force JT into asking for a trade, he demonstrated his power to the other non-Cowboys on the team:
You screw with me and squash you like a South Florida roach.
Didn’t he do something like that to a variety of Cowboys when he showed up at the Ranch in 2003? Didn’t he clean out Ekuban’s locker while he was still on the team (or was it some other mouthy underachiever??). Refresh my memory.
But he is a very effective team rebuilder.
By the way, I love the “dye the hair blond” references. Bill wants to have it both ways, perhaps. What’s unmanly for you is not necessarily manly for the Tuna.
I agree with burmafrd, what’s worked for him 4 times - why change?
becuase change is inevidable, it will happen with or without your consent.. if you dont change with the times you will become obsolete. hence why he is not a coach anymore. his ways just werent getting it done with a vanilla plan such as his.
Raf,
When a team hands over the reigns to Parcells, part of the package is his huge ego and his predisposition to acting like a dick when he could achieve the similar results in a civil manner. I think Burmafrd and pescos_slim are right on target regarding Parcell’s motivation and tactics. It’s not a childish mistake; it’s cold and calculated and generally effective.
Many of Parcell’s former players and coaches indicated that he was much more manipulative and ruthless in his stays in New York and New England then he was in Dallas. Some of players wondered out load if he was getting soft in his old age or was he trying to earn his way into heaven after being such a ruthless bastard. Based on the way he has handled things in Miami I think we can expect to see Parcells revert to his sociopathic tendencies.
The Cowboys experienced a toned down version of Parcells because Jones stayed directly involved in anything that directly impacted the team’s public.
At a time when Jones was busy convincing the fine citizens of Dallas to finance his new stadium Parcells had to limit his tendency to publicly haunt his players.
Now that Parcells is the Man and has a passive owner, it is not surprising to see him return to his old mechanisms of turning the media and fans against any player who do not fit his model or plans.
burmafrd,
the homophobia remark was aimed at Parcells. He’s the one who refused to speak to Taylor. As for the dancing line, I’ve seen CNNSI’s Don Banks make the same silly argument, that Taylor’s dancing is somehow letting the team down. Puh-leeze.
Trey,
Perhaps, but if Parcells intent is to trade his most valuable asset why be a dick? Does it raise Taylor’s trade value? I think it would lower it, since teams know the Dolphins are not going to take Taylor back. That’s not cold and calculating in my book.
Jon B.,
Where are the rumors that Zack and Jason Taylor don’t get along? That’s ridiculous. They’re brothers in law! Taylor is married to Zack’s sister.
Rafel,
In an era where players sign $100 MM contracts, they and there agents can sometimes feel they hold most of the cards and that they do not have to do everything the organization wants them to do. As Slim highlighted in post 18, one reason for Parcells to be a dick while cutting ties with Taylor is that he does not want to miss the opportunity to demonstrate / flaunt his power over one of his star players.
He is coldly and effectively communicating that he can directly affect a player’s public image and their professional situation and satisfaction. The message that a new sheriff is in town and his player’s better do things his way regardless of how much the fans love them, how talented they are or their current contract situation.
In this case it does not cost him much to be disagreeable, as Taylor will be traded at one point and his market value is mostly based on his perceived potential to help a contender make the next step.
Jon B, did not make up the issue between Zack and Taylor.
There were articles on the topic because Taylor divorced Zack’s sister and Zack made comments to the Miami media that Jason better treat her right in how he handles the break up. The media ran with a bloods thicker then water story etc. If it had been in Dallas it would have gotten a 100 day run in Sports Center. On a 1-15 team it got a week long run as local news.
http://www.zimbio.com/Katina+Taylor
Looks like Jason and Zach are still family.
Good to hear….I think.
I am not so good at keeping up with who is married / dating who. The point was that at a recent point there were stories on Zack wanting to get away from Taylor and if the divorce was going to break up the Dolphin’s D.
http://dolphinsindepth.blogspot.com/2006/07/fallout-from-taylor-divorce.html
trey,
Interesting. I read the Miami papers back when Ireland and Sparano were being hired and saw a story with Katina Taylor talking about being surprised and supportive of his progress on the show. Didn’t see any evidence of discord then.
Who players date, marry and divorice is outside my core competencies, but I did see a few stories that made a locker room issue out of it.
I do not know if it was just a reporter drumming up a story when there was nothing there. Eitherway, it sure was not the cause of 1-15.
Here is one example. There was something on ESPN about a year ago too.
http://dolphinsindepth.blogspot.com/2006/07/fallout-from-taylor-divorce.html
dolphinsindepth.blogspot.com/2006/07/fallout-from-taylor-divorce.html
I don’t pick up on any homophobia… it’s just a control thing with Parcells. But I’m glad this is all happening, it’s f’ing fascinating theater.
He’s 33 and expensive. Just pass, Jerry.
They Shoot All Pro OLBs, Don’t They? RIP, Sydney Pollack
If money was not a factor I would trade Ellis and a third for Taylor. Taylor is a better and more complete player. He would provide more as a 3-4 OLB then Ellis. He is faster, more athletic, offers better versatility and makes more game changing plays then Ellis.
He can pass rush and would be a nightmare opposite Ware. He can also cover in the flat and the middle zone which allow the team to zone blitz from multiple angles and still rush Ware.
That said, money is the factor that will keep this rumor just a rumor. The team has too many young talented players it needs to pay to take spend 8 more million for another OLB to play in front of Spenser. There are better uses for the Cowboys limited resources (players, picks, money) then to spend 15 million, starters and draft picks to rent Taylor for two years.
Trey,
no way Taylor is a more complete player. and if he is, it’s not by much at all.
Taylor’s power is not even close to matching Ellis’.
Taylor’s ability to cover in the flats does not match Ellis’ ability against the run.
Taylor for Ellis? Why would Parcells want a guy who will be gone when the team has been rebuilt?
What about Taylor for Spears? BP loved Spears before he drafted him. Has he completely soured on him? I’m sure he’d want a pick too.
Of course the problem with dealing Spears is that Taylor really isn’t big enough to play the end in a 3-4. Nor could Ellis slide down there full-time. But maybe they could hold the end enough of the time in a rotation that includes Hatcher (and perhaps Ratliff and Bowen).
Meanwhile, we could unleash this rush whenever we want to — Taylor, Ware, Ellis and Spencer. Certainly the possibilities are intriguing.
I think the cap issues could be solved by extending Taylor to a third year and turning most of this year’s money into bonus.
But perhaps the biggest reason to consider this is to keep him away from Philly. He could make them very dangerous.
Falcon,
Taylor might have lost a step but he still performs at an elite level that Ellis has/will never achieved.
Taylor deserved defensive MVP when he recieved it and probably one other year. A younger Taylor’s pass rush skills exceeds those of Ware much less Ellis.
Ellis gets his sacks now because he is clearly the second best book end and Ware gets most of the double teams. There were a number of years where Ellis saw some double teams and he never had double digit sacks. Even last year Taylor rarely goes a pass play without getting double teamed. Heck even Baltimore helped the great Jonathon Ogden with a stream of backs and Tight ends when he faced Taylor.
Ware and Taylor would put an amazing amount of presure on a passing game without blitizing. Few if any teams have two tackles who can handle both of them one on one. Many teams lack a single tackle who can handle either one of them. Dallas has the corners to mix in some blitzing and create presure unlike anything we have seen from a Cowboy defense.
Vafan has a point that Ellis is not a long term fit for Maimi. Parcells may still want him if he thinks he can be a good teacher for his young players. One consistent part of Tuna’s rebuilding plans is he like to provide his young players a few older veterans to show them how its done and to give them a chance to win some games on the way up. He always brings in a few of his guys. Ellis knows how to play the game and would have a wonderful attitude if someone would give him a new contract with a signing bonus.
Dallas would be making a mistake if they give up on Spears. He may not be a superstar, but he is an important cog in the run defense that would be very difficult to replace.
Frankly I think we could move Hatcher to Spears spot and while we might lose something against the run we would gain against the pass. Or move the Rat there and bring in a big body to spell Tank at NT.
Parcells is doing the right thing.
Sure, to some it may seem homophobic and inane, but there is o better way to reach each and every player and outright convince them that he is in charge and will not allow any player (including your superstar) to do things any other way but his way.
Parcells, I think, would find Greg Ellis far more valuable to the team than Jason Taylor. Taylor will not be around when the Dolphins turn the corner and thus the elder veterans are needed to coach young players and serve as a role model in the way he wants them to act. Parcells knows if paid correctly and given some promises, Ellis would come in and be the role model veteran who would go out of his way for the young players. Ellis would be off to the side teaching thm pass rush moves. Taylor is out wearing some ‘girly’ clothes and showing his ‘feminine’ side when he could be reaching out to his younger teammates.
While Taylor is more athletic than Ellis, I’d expect Taylor to have a steeper downfall than Ellis because his success is built more from that athletic ability than its techniquw where Ellis succeeds. According to that same KC Joyner, Ellis was one of the most crafty and technique laden pass rushers in the history of the game. Becuase of these issues, Ellis will be able to be successful later in his career. He is also one year younger.
I’ll take Ellis at the cheaper price. Taylor can continue looking like a fairy.
“To quote that man expert Peggy Bundy — the mind wobbles.”
It was the buxom Kelly Bundy that said that, not Peggy.
Trey,
I think Donny said it well,
“I’d expect Taylor to have a steeper downfall than Ellis because his success is built more from that athletic ability than its techniquw where Ellis succeeds.”
Last year, in the rain against the g-men (i think), Taylor’s speed was negated and he became a liability against the run. true story.
Whether his approach is right or wrong can be debated, but Bill Parcells’ treatment of selected/targeted players as turds in his lunch box is fact. It may be an effective approach if the goal is simply to marginalize a player while establishing himself as ‘Head MF what be in charge’. I’d say that over the long term his coaching approach is of marginal value (in today’s NFL) in motivating players to excel; it’s probably more effective for younger rather than established players.
It has nothing to do with dancing. It has to do with priorities. It is about setting an example for your teammates by showing that you are willing to do whatever it takes to improve the situation. I don’t think you guys are giving BP enough credit here. He would have acted the same way if Taylor missed OTAs so that he could go bear hunting with his bare hands.
I think you are giving BP too much credit
Playmaker,
Taylor didn’t miss OTAs. The team wasn’t holding OTAs when he was taping his show.
Taylor has double digit sacks in five of his last six seasons. He was NFL Defensive Player of the Year in ‘06. He’s proven he can play over a ten year career. He’s not some disappointing rookie. He’s one of the oldest veterans on that team. He’s the best player on that team.
Jason Taylor has *earned* respect. Bill Parcells doesn’t feel JT deserves any and isn’t giving him any. I understand he feels a need to establish he’s the man, etc., etc. but I’m wondering how effective this will be in Miami.
At every other stop, Parcells was either the HC or HC/GM. Here, he’s the GM only.
Or is he? Is he going to do an Al Davis impersonation in Miami? And if he is, does this mean that Tony Sparano is his puppet?
And I find it amusing how many people cheer Parcells’ hardass move. The Dolphins collapsed, but one of the biggest reasons is that they just don’t have that much talent. They’ve had perhaps the worst OL in football the last few years. Their corners are weak and their old DTs fell apart last year, so they were last against the rush. They didn’t have a QB. It’s arguable that they still don’t have a QB, at least until Chad Henne is ready.
If your company hired a new boss whose M.O. was to take the best, most productive worker on your staff and treat him or her like total shit in front of the entire staff, because the boss didn’t like the way this person spent their vacation time, would you think this was great?
Would you tolerate this in YOUR life? Or would you tell the boss how this person any anybody else spent their time off was NOTFB?
You made the point, Playmaker. Would you be willing to “do anything it takes” including letting the boss dictate your free time, in order to improve company morale?
Fandom brings out the bloodthirsty in a lot of people.
Jason Taylor a Cowboy? Never happen.
By the way, some of you know way too much about Dancing with the Stars. Go out in the yard and do some work, or build something in the garage. Don’t let your mind slip into girl land.
Oh and you forgot to mention that their #1 WR after Chambers was traded to San Diego was Marty Booker, and that a few weeks into their season Ronnie Brown got hurt.
Their talent was AWEFUL.
Wow.
I just read something that was really interesting in the DMN Blog… Who cares about what Brees or “T-Mac (ugh!)” or Goose (if it isn’t about the Draft) have to say, they get to write something interesting here and there because of their resources, but the blog of Kevin Burnett just gave up one really interesting nugget that deserves some analysis…
http://kevinburnettblog.dallasnews.com/
Last season the team indeed played that type of Defense, even with the limited talent at CB, and the “Cowboy package” is one example of the use of this type of alignment. We saw how the team placed Bowen or Hatcher (or Tank Johnson when he was allowed to) at the Line with Ellis, Ware would soon join and Spencer would be floating around them to attack somewhere along the line. They had Roy Williams and Kevin Burnett right behind them and T-New, Henry, Reeves, Jones and Hamlin in coverage.
My best guess is that we’ll see much more of that package, Burnett’s comment seems to lead us in that direction.
Raf,
I was the first one who brought up the idea of trading for Taylor. I am not against Taylor, or anything like that. I am just saying that I can see where Parcells is coming from. They are in a far different situation than we are. New coach and system, coming off a 1-15 year. It would have been nice for Taylor to work out with his team and set an example. That’s all. Believe me, I would love to see him come to Dallas. Ellis is a very good pass rusher. Taylor is a great one.
It needs to be noted that ‘being the best player on the team’ and ’supporting the team concept’ are two different things.
Parcells doesn’t care that Taylor is the best player because he is simply too old to matter. He cares that Taylor is not supporting the team concept by showing the young players the NFL credo- FOOTBALL IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS.
Those are the guys that Parcells wants. If Taylor was 26, I’d expect Parcells to have a slightly different attitude.
Rafael asks “Or is he? Is he going to do an Al Davis impersonation in Miami? And if he is, does this mean that Tony Sparano is his puppet?”
Could it be any other way. Of course, Sparano will be a Parcells puppet. He’ll do it exactly how Parcells wants or he’ll be gone.
damn lol, im a choreographer… listening to some of the comments like “girly land” and “homo” should be offensive but its really not. just goes to show how simple minded some people really are.
i started dancing when i started playing football. and believe it or not. i wouldnt have been half as good if i hadnt takin classes. does wonders for your reaction time, endurance, and balance coming in and out of your cuts (all of which i think most skill position players need).
dancing and owning my own studio has given me lots of luxurys a lot of you will never see. i spend tons of time with my daughter, i make a good amount of money every year. and dancing is how i met my BEAUTIFUL wife, whom dances for the Arena league team “quad city steamwheelers”…while a lot of men would sit here and tell you it is gay nomatter how you look at it. i personally wouldnt have it any other way.
so Jason should do his thing and give tuna the shaft and sit out. dont play for a man that disrespects you in that mannor. JT bleeds, sweats, and leaves his heart on the feild every play of every game, and has been a monster and pulse of that team for the last decade. i honestly think that Tuna is making a big mistake
in short, BP should follow the old saying “dont bite the hand that feeds you” because without taylor on that roster or in the starting lineup, that is one sorry ass dolphins team. good luck joey porter
Well, everytime that I write a long post or one that has a link will go into awaiting moderation mode…
casual1031: Amen!
Taylor says he wants to play ONE more year. No way is that worth a trade for Ellis. I also thought I was on the Lifetime Channel in blog form when I saw the dancing thing….lol.
Casual - turn in your man card now, dammit! You can no longer be part of the club; you are banned, sir!
But we know you are definitely a man because it took a lot of balls to “come out of the closet” and tell everyone what you do for a living.
Seriously though, kudos to you for doing what you love to do no matter what - it’s the only way to be happy.
Casual - there is one way to get your man card back… that’s if your dance studio has a platform with a silver pole in the middle.
Just don’t let Pacman in.
Chicks dig guys who can move on the dance floor!
So, I’m sure Casual can put up with the jokes and smile.
Now back to more he-man stuff! If Taylor is only going to ply one more year, what would he be worth in a trade? Surely not a pro-bowl player who could give us more than one year…I’m thinking a late round draft pick if anything at all.
ooga booga, buster, jim vance,
ha thanks guys. i knew i can count on my fellow bloggers to understand lol. but i gotta lot of shit in college playin ball and dancing. so i expected the same here if and when you the information was unvailed. however, i got almost EVERY ONE of the RB’s from college in the studio at least once, and over half of them still come to this day and take my classes (let it be known im a hip hop choreographer, not a ballet, jazz, tap dancer lol. couldnt do that for my life. so lets hope that makes me a little less gay for you guys lol. dont want you guys to pull a parcells and ignore me…
and buster
god damnit, looks like im gonna have to take that poll i just installed down in case pacman ever wants to visit the midwest for a period of time!!!
RE: Jim Vance,
“Chicks dig guys who can move on the dance floor!
So, I’m sure Casual can put up with the jokes and smile.”
absolutely sir, i dont think any one of us here would turn down a chance to be in sayyyyyy Justin Timberlakes shoes, making millions of dollars and getting super hot chicks like Jessica Beil, pretty mcuh for singing and dancing on stage.. hes gonna have a lto less brain damage at the end of his career than any football player
Well if Taylor says he wants to play only one more year no wonder BP wants him gone.
