I’m Pro [Tashard] Choice

Posted: July 11, 2008 @ 2:25 pm

Pro Football Weekly’s Draft Guide says this about 4th rounder Tashard Choice, (whom they rated 5th overall at RB):

“Not as big, fast or strong as teams might like, but he is a banger with a heart of gold and plays with passion. Is the type of competitor who will not go down without a fight and has carried the Yellowjackets offense for two years. A poor man’s Curtis Martin. Choice could earn a starting job if he can stay healthy and could turn out to be a very good pro. Will be even better in the locker room. Would be a terrific value pick if he lasts until the middle rounds. A winner.”

Watch this clip and see if you don’t do the rest of your work with a bit more vigor.

Watching that video sends chills down my spine and makes me want to play some serious football.

well, I’m not exactly “pro-choice”, but let’s hope he’s not an abortion at the rb position…

Thanks for your opinion, Buster. Like we care what your political beliefs are. Way to weigh in with a tone deaf comment and dim the momentum of what could be great thread.

Rashard is impressive. What college kid gives a prolonged and effective motivational speech like that? I’d have run through a brick wall right after that.

geez, joey2zs… way to overreact and “dim the momentum” yourself–you’ll notice that the subject line, not buster, started the political tone with a not-so-great pun.

As for “Rashard” Choice and the video, it’s going to take him a few years of proving himself as a follower before he can do that in the Dallas lockerroom. For the sake of the team, here’s hoping he never gets the chance to make that kind of speech in Dallas because that can only mean that MBIII and El Gato are injured or failing to impress.

At 5′10, 215 Choice has great size. I would not write him off as a wasted pick just because of Marion and Felix’s presence. We have no idea what will happen in the future and there definitely is room on every roster for a third RB. True he will have to either wait a year or two, or take advantage when MB3 or Felix are not producing or injured, but he is a solid 3rd RB. He has time to concentrate on learning how to block, perfecting his body, and effectively running between the tackles. Being third on the depth chart may be a blessing.

There is no question a back like Choice can pair up in a two back system with Felix, but I also think he can be a good pair with MB3. MB3 likes to bounce it outside. Choice has the frame, moves, and determination to be an effective inside rusher. He should also have the time to learn how to be a good pass blocker and receiver. It certainly seems like he has the determination and will to do these things. If he can gain these skills he will be an excellent pair with MB3. Yes they may be similar backs but no more similar than Fred Taylor and Jones-Drew. In fact Taylor is 6′1 226 and Jones-Drew is 5′7 212. That is very similar to Barber 6′0 225 and Choice 5′10 215.

Holy crap i can’t believe i am agreeing with two z’s. The pun if you read this blog consistently, is par for the course. Choice is a beast and in my honest opinion has way more upside than felix. He was a total steal in the forth round and if he gets a consistent opportunity he may take Marions job, period.

Yeah I like Choice too. A little slow tho. Has the same, no break away speed quality. I wish there was more video of him than the low quality videos on YouTube. Sure would be nice to have 3 really good backs but that is a longshot.

The potential of Choice makes me wish Stewart would have fallen to us. He had breakaway speed at 230 and could catch the ball. He fell to us in so many mock drafts but went much higher than expected. can’t believe we did not take Mendenhall but I am glad we got Jones.
