Terry Glenn: No News is No News; Choice Signs

Posted: July 23, 2008 @ 9:52 pm

Update: The rookies are signing on cue. 4th round pick Tashard Choice has agreed to terms, joining Orlando Scandrick and Erik Walden as rookie signees. 1st-rounders Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins and 2nd rounder Martellus Bennett have yet to ink contracts.

I just spoke to a source who tells me that negotiations between the team and Terry Glenn are ongoing and that the parties hope to get his status resolved before the team leaves for Oxnard tomorrow. Team officials were mum on the likelihood of a new agreement and on what it would entail. Know that talks continue, and are probably underway as you read this.

More as I learn it.

I asked about rookie negotiations and was told that no surprises are expected. The team’s MO in recent years has been to sign all its picks in the days just before camp. Since Dallas’ highest pick was 22nd overall, I don’t foresee any holdouts. We’ll see.

– Your factoid of the day: this is Jerry Jones20th season as Cowboys owner. By comparison, Clint Murchison owned the club for 24 years. Jerry has the new stadium coming on schedule next year, the Super Bowl in 2011 and a team entering its prime winning window. There’s no doubt he’ll exceed Murchison’s tenure in 2013.

I’d rather he signed. Glenn would be the icing on this championship cake.

All right guys, I’ve got a question for you.

This isn’t Dallas related but it is heavy in football. In a month I’ve got my fantasy football draft and I’m picking #6.

Its a PPR league and all TDS count as 6 points. I’m going to assume that that LT, Peterson, Addai, Jackson, and Westbrook are off the board… who would you pick.

Remember this is a points per reception league.

    blah “who would you pick?”

    A question, not a statement.

afb who has the most tds over the past two years? If hes already gone who had the second most? Last year i had MbIII and Peterson. I never regretted either and i doubt i will be as lucky this year. I’d go with MBIII if hes there. I would avoid addai unless he’s on the board in the second.I’d also consider Moss,T.O.,Romo or Brady.

Superbowl in 2011?!? I thought it was next years SB. Dang I hope were still in the hunt then. Homefield in the SB would be awesome!

    AFB,

you have the worst pick of the 1st round haha…they actually have articles online about what to do this year if you have pick #6 since its so tricky. NFL.com says you should take Addi at #6, Lynch #7, Barber at #8, and Brady at #9. If it were me (and I’m pretty risky), I would choose Brady, Romo, Moss, TO (in that order) at pick #6. Then hope that in the second round people would pass over a player like barber. I feel like once the top RB are off the board, and the people behind you see you and others picking up the best WR/QB…they will forget/leave players like Lynch or MBIII and they might still be there in the 2nd round. It’s just my opinion, but I would take the gamble.

I guess if i had to make my picks concrete…i would pick:

    Brady at #6
2nd Round: get the remaining RBs from:

Adai, Lynch, Barber, Grant, Portis, L. Johnson, McGahee, F. Taylor….

then later in other rounds i would snag a rookie RB or a RB that others might have overlooked…like McFadden, Forte, Stewart, Chris Johnson, and Atlanta’s Turner.

Look out for Green Bay’s Grant as a sleeper…he looks like he could do real well

    this website might help too…

Oh how I hope this doesn’t become a fantasy fb board *sighs*. I know it’s a lot of fun but I can’t get enough Cowboys news/comments. Fantasy seems like crack, it makes good loyal fans of a team go in a totally different direction and do crazy things like cheer for Redskins or Giants.

From the previous thread regarding McFlabbs comments - Once upon a time, I was a huge fan of his because he went to Syracuse (the closest thing we have locally to Div I college FB). He was a darling there. My dislike for him since he’s been in Philly gets worse every year. It gets tiring hearing his side of the story, he’s always the victim. He’s a mentally weak cry baby. I hope some reporter asked him “if you should have won all those games, what role did YOU play in blowing them?”. He’s the team leader right?

    StillHate,

Haha…I hear ya man. I hate fantasy talk…I only entertained the idea b/ce it was midnight, and I was bored, and that was the last post I saw. I promise thats the last fantasy comment I make all year. I don’t even play it anymore because it is like crack…its so addictive.

On a diff. note…I know what you mean about McNabb. He always shirks the blame or responsibility for any Eagles problems. Compare him to Tony Romo. Any time something goes wrong, Tony is first to say it is his fault. If McNabb would have botched that snap against Seattle, he def. would be blaming everyone but himself. Also, you’ll never see Tony Romo whine the way he does every off-season. Still Hate, you are absolutely right about him being mentally weak. I guess that is the best way to describe him. He does not have the mental toughness to shoulder blame, to handle his critics, handle pressure, handle injury, and handle player/coach/club disputes. I don’t know how many more passes Philly can give this guy.

When I started playing fantasy football there weren’t any Cowboys with any fantasy value now we’re stacked at ever position! Nice!!!

“I’m going to assume that that LT, Peterson, Addai, Jackson, and Westbrook are off the board… who would you pick. ”

Moss, then next tier RB (Barber, Lynch, LJ, McGahee, Maroney, Jacobs, Jones-Drew … whatever is left), then QB or a second RB from that same tier. I doubt Moss puts up similar numbers to last year, but he will be your best trade bait to land that player you really want. Then again, who is going to stop him/Pats this year?

Decent RBs can be had later like Ronnie Brown handcuffed with Ricky Williams, same for McFadden and Fargus. There are lots of potential #2RBs out there: Turner, Graham, White, Stewart, Young …

I wouldn’t chase a QB in the first, besides who’s hot this year Brady, Manning, Romo or other? One of those guys should be their in the mid-second, you should catch Brees, Palmer or Roethlisberger in the fourth.

“Fantasy seems like crack, it makes good loyal fans of a team go in a totally different direction and do crazy things like cheer for Redskins or Giants”

So untrue. I bleed Blue and Silver but now I keep up on other teams, not just their standings but what makes them click and who’s their next big star. It’s one thing to watch highlights, but on a weekly basis, fantasy causes you to get deep into the stats.

For instance, some day soon TO will need to be replaced. I know Chad Johnson is a bandaid - with attitude, Anquan Boldin is just hitting his prime, but he wants Fitzgerald money. Soon other young studs (Marques Colston, Andre Johnson, and Braylon Edwards) will have to decides between extentions or the chance to sign with the Boys.

Todd Archer is reporting that Bennett has signed a 4 year deal. Jenkins and Jones are left.

Actually anybody could toss the names of young WRs closing in on the end of their rookie contracts. But because of Fantasy, I already know that Colston, Johnson and Edwards put up big numbers without a stud #2 WR. For that matter, Roddy White puts up decent numbers without a QB.

    birdness on July 24th, 2008 10:53 am

How muct playing time will Bennett see behind Witten? The talent may be the best in the league, Jerry is locking up first day draft picks as multi-year backups.

Where are the holes on this team? Too many dumb penalties? Roy Williams? Shallow kickoffs? Poor talkling? Questionable snaps?

No injuries, physical play, and focus = Superbowl!

    “There’s no doubt he’ll exceed Murchison’s tenure in 2013.”

While I wish Jerry no ill will, there’s an old saying that says “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”

    StillHateTheGiants on July 24th, 2008 11:29 am

Birdness, Bennett should see considerable time as the 2nd TE in many packages. At least as much as Fasano last year.

Regarding fantasy, I know a lot of people enjoy it. Frankly I don’t have the time to follow the entire league. It’s tough enough to try to stay somewhat up to date on the Boys. So I’m selfish, I want all Boys, all the time. That’s what I love about this blog (and the level of knowledge and maturity of other posters)

I could have named the same list of WR’s as you did, and even thrown in that Colston just extended :)

Good to see Choice signed. Now the other three need to fall in line - no distractions.

So, the Cowboys flew out to the ‘Nard last night, correct? Was Glenn on the flight? Is he with the team?
