Cowboys @ Chargers Preseason Thread

Posted: August 9, 2008 @ 8:31 pm

10:38 — 2nd half begins.  Richard Bartel is at the controls.

10:22 — Nick Folk nails a FG at the gun. Chargers 24, Cowboys 10

10:10 — San Diego scores on a third short run. Chargers 24, Cowboys 7

10:09 — Alan Ball is flagged for interference, putting the Chargers inside the Dallas five — again.

10:07 — James Marten fails to switch on a Chargers twist, allowing a linebacker to come up the middle and drop Brad Johnson on a third down pass inside the five.

10:03 — Dallas puts its starting nickel 4-2-5 D in the game on 3rd and long and the front four blew up Billy Volek’s line. Chris Canty had Volek around the ankles when the QB threw the ball away.

9:59 — The Chargers are blitzing Brad Johnson heavily, which will give the Cowboys lots of good tape on the kid blockers.

9:53 — Nick Kaeding nails a 53 yarder. Chargers 17, Cowboys 7.

9:52 — The Chargers have their backups in as well. The game is getting sloppier by the minute.

9:43 — Sproles slices up the middle for a TD. Chargers 14, Cowboys 7.

9:42 — Anthony Spencer jumps offsides, moving the Chargers to the Dallas six.

9:40 — Dallas pulls all its defensive starters but Phillip Rivers is still running the top Chargers’ O. A 21 yard pass to Chris Chambers and a 21 yard screen to Darren Sproles push the Chargers inside the Cowboys’ 15.

9:37 — Johnson throws a stop, but Crayton runs an up. Quentin Jammer picks the ball and the Chargers take over one play into the quarter.

9:35 — the 1st quarter ends with Dallas in Chargers territory after Johnson finds Crayton over the middle for 15 yards on a 3rd-and-7 play.

9:32 — Brad Johnson replaces Romo. Felix Jones catches his first pass for one yard. On the next play he takes a toss right for 19 yards.

9:26 — Jacob Hester scores off left tackle. Dallas 7, San Diego 7.

9:25 — Dallas stuffs two Chargers runs on 1st and 2nd downs.

9:24: Marcus Spears blows up a run, leading to a 4 yard loss, but Ken Hamlin is flagged for interference in the end zone on the following play.

9:22 — Chargers 2nd series gets one 1st down and then sputters. Mike Jenkins breaks up a 3rd down pass. Danny Amendola fumbles the punt, giving the Chargers the ball inside the Dallas 30.

9:15 — Dallas 7, San Diego 0. Two series: a three and out for the Chargers and an 8 play, 54 yard TD drive for the Cowboys. Romo got quick throws to Witten (2) and one over the middle to Crayton. The gold star goes to Andre Gurode, who handled Jamal Williams with ease.

Here ‘ya go!

    Am I really anxious for a 1st pre-season game? Sheesh, I’m a loser.

Gina Miller is amazonian next to Spags. Plus she has nice… eyes.

Raul (and/or Raf): will we get the game day chat back on this site this season? Or it here already and I just don’t see it?

Love me some DelayPlayRadio. I gotta have the option of Brad and Babe even in the pre-season.

Bring it. (But nobody get hurt)

The stinking Skins/Bills game is running long. At this rate, NFL Network won’t start showing the game until 20 after.

1st drive: Couple of nice catches by Witten, 15 yd run by MB3, punched in by Deon from 1 or 2 yds out.

Zach Thomas is greatness. He’s gonna be much fun to watch this year.

    D. Amendola might want to hold on to the ball. Before he gets a roster spot and all…

    Dallas’ drive was impressive.

Marcus Spears has got great penetration a couple of times.

Danny Amendola looks shifty on the punt return, shame he fumbled, he’ll get more chances.

    Felix looking shifty.

I hate the way everyone keeps saying “you can’t keep bouncing things outside”, this is what good quick backs do, let’s not turn Felix into a robot like we did with Julius Jones. You don’t draft exciting ad-lib runners and then brainwash them with “stick to you hole, wait for your blocking, don’t bounce outside” until they become so concerned with executing the play correctly that they become predictable.

It’s a preseason game, dude. Take a giant chill pill.

And Dallas pulled their starters. Rivers, the 1st Chargers OL, and Chambers are in the game. That’s a fact.

    Call it whatever you want.

His drop back looks so sloppy.

Cuervo Post 25-thanks for the link!

It’s be preseason, Raf, but special teams should look better against their special teams-After all, it’s preseason for San Diego too!

Also, I think Cowboys fans have heard and talked so much about our “Depth” and how great our backups are that’s it’s hard to watch our 2nd teamers get so physically and mentally beat by the other teams’ 2nd-teamers.

  133. 133
    jgoddard8409 on August 9th, 2008 10:27 pm

hey…did any one else think that the redskins intentionally held up their game so our starters didnt get any air time on nfl network…..foil hat theory of the night….lol

  134. 134
Realist Larry on August 9th, 2008 10:30 pm

That said, being the Realist I am, I don’t share that overoptimism, so just get our guys out of there with no injuries and I’m happy!

I do think Phillips overdoes the ‘no tackling’ thing in camp, and other teams may be ahead of the Cowboys in being more used to being physical at this point.

After all, in older days when there was more hitting/tackling (AND 6 preseason games!), I don’t remember losing half a team before the season started.
A lot of injuries are just from cutting sharply, or muscle teams, anyways.

Ah, it’s pre-season: The Chargers have 31 points and 117 yards of offense. A fumbled punt, a pick, weak punt coverage on the right side and three long interference penalties have given the Chargers some very short fields.

No Injuries (Sacndrick should be OK)

I like Wade getting mad/frustrated (don’t forget this was his former team, I’m sure he and some of the SD players wanted to win more than usual for the 1st game)

We are going to need some competitiveness and energy from him during this season, including not just accepting it when they lose.
